I love Heenan and Gorilla.
"No one has ever gotten up from two ddt's."
"I've never seen anyone get up from one."
-
Yet, another reminder that I'm getting old.
I actually remember when a DDT signaled the end of a match, and guys didn't sell them with somersaults and handsprings.
-
The DDT was always my favorite but only the way Jake Roberts does it. He throws that "snap" into it.
Another two that I love were:
The dooms day device by the Road Warriors
The Demolition Decapitation by Demolition.

So true..the whole story of his match was him hitting that move.

Remember when he did it to Steamboat back in 1986 on SNME on the concrete? The sound that it made when Steamboats head really hit the ground? And this was prior to the days of haveing a mat at ringside....
-
Macho Man's flying elbow drop has got to be right up there.
that was until Ultimate Warrior kicked out of 5 of them at WM7.. ::)
-
Always loved Roberts DDT.....just an incredible move that with his superior ring psyche, he built it up and built it up and then BOOM !!!

Yes, good call, I forgot about that finisher too.
-
even though it has obviously been done to death over the last 25 years, Hogan's Big Boot/Leg Drop was actually a pretty good move combo IMO.

I always laugh when someone says that move wasn't believable..It's a 300 pound guy jumping and dropping his leg across your throat.

And that's what put him over and made him millions. Look at the Rock with the "people's elbow"? Or Cena with the "you can't see me". Same deal. Maybe we should invent a stupid move and make millions too. ;D

Hogan's leg drop a great finisher? Oh dear......

Can't be any better than Crush's "Heart Punch" from the late ninties.

The only two wrestlers who should be allowed to perform that move are Ox Baker and Stan Stasiak..... 8)

Hogan's leg drop a great finisher? Oh dear......
yup. when he actually does it right and jumps properly.
granted, he got a bit lazy sometimes, but still, when done right its a great finisher, esp. preceded by the big boot.
-
some great ones here. the one on Honky at 1:19 is one of the best I have ever seen. landed right on his FACE :o
-
Some great memories on that Hogan leg drop tribute.
-
Dooms Day Device, Canadian Destroyer, Perfect Plex, Power & Glory's combo of suplex & splash was brilliant............... .....TBC
-
sasha grey is a decent finisher...

I've always liked the half-crab/scorpion deathlock.
There have been some guys over the years who've come up with some very clever ways of getting into the move.
Bret could seemingly hit it from any position, and Lance Storm often prefaced it with a beautiful roll-through.
Ironically, I cared for Sting's version the least.
The way he put it on made it appear as though the only reason he could hook it was because his opponent let him. :-\
While slightly different from a traditional SDL, I also liked Dean Malenko's cloverleaf variation - particularly the speed with which he could apply the hold.
-
Undertaker: Tombstone PileDriver and "Hell's Gate".
And, Yokozuna's Banzai Drop!!
-
the Gogoplata doesnt do anything for me as a finisher, nor did the Banzai Drop. Essentially Yoko was simply sitting on someone whereas Earthquake had the presence of mind to build up the move by setting it up using his aftershocks (much more of an impact IMO).
On the flip side, the Bushwhacker Battering Ram has to be one of the worst moves ive ever seen in any org, by andyperformer(s). Yet as a kid i completely bought its effectiveness! Perhaps thats the real beauty of making a finisher more than just good, the ability to have the crowd buy it hook, line and sinker.

How about Sara Del Rey's Royal Butterfly
-
This is the best finisher ever.
-
This is the best finisher ever.
HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA!!!
That's great!
I love the way his opponent sells it, too: "curling" his body up the way they do in cartoons after getting run over by a steamroller...
Brilliant!
:D

How about King Kong Bundy's avalanch / splash combo and then demanding a 5 count.

"King of the Five-count," baby.

One Man Gang here in the South used it.....later Akeem the African Dream in the idiotic WWF.... also, I think, but I'm not sure that Vader may have employed it at times...

Nice....and yes that "Akeem" gimmick was atrocious. Vince should have left him as One Man Gang and had him fued with others.

I agree. OMG would have been a great fit, but during that time especially vince always had to come up with some awful gimmick for anybody who came to the territory.... :-\
-
He originally worked in the Fed as the One Man Gang and drew decent heat - even worked some matches against Hogan.
The McMahon practice of "fixing it until it's broken."
-
I forgot about Petey williams canadan destroyer
one of the best finishers I think
-

I thought Akeem was pretty succesful? He and Bossman were caught up in that whole Mega powers fued.
He got over better in other territories. His tenure in the then WWF was ridiculous.

Timmy wouldn't know that, Timmy only watches the fed, Timmy didn't follow anybodies career before the WWF, but thinks they should all be judged solely on time in the fed...... ;)
j/k Timmy.... ;D

Lol...I dunno. I liked him better as the One Man Gang when he first came in and was beating the daylights outta everyone. The Akkem deal with the African clothes seemed a tad to weird for me.

The vignettes in which they introduced the Akeem character were even stupider.
The only good thing I'll say is that it sounds like Gang & Slick were genuinely good people outside the ring, and I don't believe the whole "Akeem" angle was their idea.

Lol...you mean when they went to "deepest darkest Africa"?
Guaranteed it was thought up by creative and okayed / pushed by Vince as he knew how popular the One Man Gang character was in Mid South and World Class.

Those are the ones.

And Mean Gene even had a microphone...with a wire attached to it and they were supposedly in the Jungles of Africa....wonder where they found an electrical outlet in the middle of the jungle? ;D
-
I loved slick and the Akeem gimmick.
classic WWF cheese that just somehow worked.

Not trying to be an ass, but how old were you at the time?

Nothing beat the time when One Man Gang back in 1987 did his finisher to like 5 or 6 different jobbers. Nothing but bodies all over the ring ;D

He had a good feud in Mid-Atlantic w/ Jimmy Valiant. Gary Hart was his manager.

I remember that. Some good noteriety for OMG at that time.

They used him really well, as did Georgia and mid-south.....he was just brought in as a monster heel who destroyed opponents....not on TV too much and involved in short, squash matches when he was.

The WWE back then in 1987 had the same idea but went awall somewhere. They made him squash jobber after jobber after jobber. Then he had a run with Hogan in a series of house matches and lost. After that he started a feud with Randy Savage for the world title after WM4 and that was it. The African Dream Akeem was born. Never liked it and that that gimmick hurt Gray as a wrestler. He was no longer that big mean 450lb biker gang member that struck fear in his opponents.

Exactly.....it's like the other day when we were all talking about Hogan's "friends" who were brought in with a lure of big money, buy they were so short sighted and didn't realize that as soon as they were fed to Hogan, their days were over. And the WWF was so big that it affected them in other territories with them being seen as clowns, roosters, fake black guys, etc... instead of their previous gimmick. Even Dusty Rhodes was NEVER the same after that polka dot shit in the WWF.....

I couldn't have said it better myself. But the one person to blame for this is Vince. He's the one. Notice even if you buy a dvd, for example the latest Hogan dvd. There is all this WWE stuff from 1979-1980, only one match from the AWA against Bockwinkel, WWE stuff from 1984-1992 and again only one match from the NWO in his very lucrative and successfull WCW stint. Why? Because Vince is a jealous turd who can't stand the thought of a guy being successfull in another promotion.

I agree 100%. He bats a VERY low pct in angles/gimmicks, but people only remember the ones he "hit" on and forget the hundreds of wrestlers he buried, wasted or ruined. Hogan annoys me, but I absolutely hate VKM for what he did to wrestling....

Absolutely. But what I want to know is how the hell do you have a Hogan dvd(s) with barly any NWO stuff in it. The NWO angle was extremely successfull and required a disc just to itself on a three disc anthology.

That is simply idiotic. Hogan essentially had the HUGE run in the 80's and then nWo......the inbetween stuff was throwaway garbage. Very sad.

1996-1999 there was some great NWO footage / matches that they could have added to his dvd. Its ridiculous. Same water holds for other wrestlers who spend the better part of their careers in other territories. I'm afraid to by the Ricky Steamboat three disc dvd because i'm worried that it will all be his small 3 year WWE 1985-1988 run and his 6 month 1991 run in the WWE with the stupid dragon costume. Steamboat garnered his best performances in the NWA, not the WWE.

hey, I can still be a kid again twenty years later LOL

haha, I actually meant that to a 12yr old for example, it probably looked cool/funny at the time, but looking back on it, it was horrible.
And Playboy, the Steamboat DVD could be awesome if it includes the mid-atlantic and WCW stuff. If not, I wouldn't even bother with it.
