VB is a very weird character. Most people on this site would rather have a one on one dinner with Hannibal Lecter in a secluded place than having a drink with Basile in a crowded one.

Ain't that a fact, and very well put.

Vince
"Could someone explain how the coloured stars work here? I take it moderators have green stars, administrators have red stars, and it appears that some Ironage champions have green stars. Who decides who gets champion stars and what is the criterion? Just curious.

I hope politics isn't playing a role here like it does on Getbig."

"No, but I am feeling there is a conspiracy to not give me any credit. That happens on Getbig and perhaps here. I noticed that my mate Les Spendlove was invited to post on the experts forum. I have written articles for Ironman and have posted my theories about hypertrophy but haven't been invited to share them here. Sometimes little slights can mean a lot. I am not the only one overlooked. Jon Meade is another who deserves more credit and recognition."

"Whoopee! Green stars. Nice Christmas present. It is early Christmas here in Sydney.

All the best to everyone for the holiday season."

Very Fascist.

Ever see that twink "Dallas" on IronAge, what a f00kin' idiot. Lives alone with his lap dog, like whats her face (The Hilton/Mariott porn chick). Pam Hilton ???

Expected shortly:

Ahh, the Getbig flotsam. IT WAS the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way- in short, the period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only.

There were a king with a large jaw and a queen with a plain face, on the throne of England; there were a king with a large jaw and a queen with a fair face, on the throne of France. In both countries it was clearer than crystal to the lords of the State preserves of loaves and fishes, that things in general were settled for ever.

It was the year of Our Lord one thousand seven hundred and seventy-five. Spiritual revelations were conceded to England at that favoured period, as at this. Mrs. Southcott had recently attained her five-and-twentieth blessed birthday, of whom a prophetic private in the Life Guards had heralded the sublime appearance by announcing that arrangements were made for the swallowing up of London and Westminster. Even the Cock-lane ghost had been laid only a round dozen of years, after rapping out its messages, as the spirits of this very year last past (supernaturally deficient in originality) rapped out theirs. Mere messages in the earthly order of events had lately come to the English Crown and People, from a congress of British subjects in America: which, strange to relate, have proved more important to the human race than any communications yet received through any of the chickens of the Cock-lane brood.

France, less favoured on the whole as to matters spiritual than her sister of the shield and trident, rolled with exceeding smoothness down hill, making paper money and spending it. Under the guidance of her Christian pastors, she entertained herself, besides, with such humane achievements as sentencing a youth to have his hands cut off, his tongue torn out with pincers, and his body burned alive, because he had not kneeled down in the rain to do honour to a dirty procession of monks which passed within his view, at a distance of some fifty or sixty yards. It is likely enough that, rooted in the woods of France and Norway, there were growing trees, when that sufferer was put to death, already marked by the Woodman, Fate, to come down and be sawn into boards, to make a certain movable framework with a sack and a knife in it, terrible in history. It is likely enough that in the rough outhouses of some tillers of the heavy lands adjacent to Paris, there were sheltered from the weather that very day, rude carts, bespattered with rustic mire, snuffed about by pigs, and roosted in by poultry, which the Farmer, Death, had already set apart to be his tumbrils of the Revolution. But that Woodman and that Farmer, though they work unceasingly, work silently and no one heard them as they went about with muffled tread: the rather, forasmuch as to entertain any suspicion that they were awake, was to be atheistical and traitorous.

In England, there was scarcely an amount of order and protection to justify much national boasting. Daring burglaries by armed men, and highway robberies, took place in the capital itself every night; families were publicly cautioned not to go out of town without removing their furniture to upholsterers' warehouses for security; the highwayman in the dark was a City tradesman in the light, and, being recognised and challenged by his fellow-tradesman whom he stopped in his character of "the Captain," gallantly shot him through the head and rode away; the mail was waylaid by seven robbers, and the guard shot three dead, and then got shot dead himself by the other four, "in consequence of the failure of his ammunition:" after which the mail was robbed in peace; that magnificent potentate, the Lord Mayor of London, was made to stand and deliver on Turnham Green, by one highwayman, who despoiled the illustrious creature in sight of all his retinue; prisoners in London gaols fought battles with their turkeys, and the majesty of the law fired blunderbusses in among them, loaded with rounds of shot and ball; thieves snipped off diamond crosses from the necks of noble lords at Court drawing-rooms; musketeers went into St. Giles's, to search for contraband goods, and the mob fired on the musketeers, and the musketeers fir on the mob, and nobody thought any of these occurrences much out of the common way. In the midst of them, the hangman, ever busy and ever worse than useless, was in constant requisition; now, stringing up long rows of miscellaneous criminals; now, hanging a housebreaker on Saturday who had been taken on Tuesday; now, burning people in the hand at Newgate by the dozen, and now burning pamphlets at the door of Westminster Hall; to-day, taking the life of an atrocious murderer, and to-morrow of a wretched pilferer who had robbed a farmer's boy of sixpence.

All these things, and a thousand like them, came to pass in and close upon the dear old year one thousand seven hundred and seventy-five. Environed by them, while the Woodman and the Farmer worked unheeded, those two of the large jaws, and those other two of the plain and the fair faces, trod with stir enough, and carried their divine rights with a high hand. Thus did the year one thousand seven hundred and seventy-five conduct their Greatnesses, and myriads of small creatures- the creatures of this chronicle among the rest- along the roads that lay before them. Fair dinkum.

Vince seems like a good guy to me. National champion, gym owner, involved with the legends back in the day. Took great pics at the 1980 Olympia which I think were published in mags at the time.

Looks like a lot of jealous fuckwits on here.

He now has a sticky thread on special ed site where he goes into detail with all sorts of great history from back in the day. If Getbig appreciated Vince as much as the ilovespam guys do then the thread could have been posted here.   But it would be wasted on most of the kunts on this site.

An industry insider suggested that someone in the IFBB heirarchy has put pressure on Ron not to give me any recognition here 'because I know too much'. Could be a conspriracy.

I mean, I can understand how Vince G CSN MFT PHD is denied his competitor stars because he hasn't done much in open contests yet. However, I won a national title and have written articles on hypertrophy for Ironman so should be given expert standing among the unwashed and wannabe Flotsam here. That is the least that Ron can do.

If this conspiracy theory is true it will partly explain why libelous posts are allowed to remain on Getbig. Clearly someone doesn't want me posting here. I have openly criticized Bob Chick, the Pro League, Jim Manion, Steve Weinberger, Paul Graham, Ben Weider, and the sorry mess known as the IFBB. Unlike the anonymous heroes among the Flotsam I take full responsibility for what I post here.

So what you're saying is that Bob Chick has put pressure on Ron to not acknowledge your past accomplishments. Do you really think Ron would be bullied into a corner by Chick with regards to how to run his board?  Ron is a grown-ass-man with big, hairy(albeit curly), balls. I highly doubt anyone can sway that man to do anything he doesn't want to do.

I mean, I can understand how Vince G CSN MFT PHD is denied his competitor stars because he hasn't done much in open contests yet. However, I won a national title and have written articles on hypertrophy for Ironman so should be given expert standing among the unwashed and wannabe Flotsam here. I'm sorry, but I have to disagree with you here.  As much as people like to hate on Melvin and call him all sorts of names, he has actually competed in bodybuilding contests.  While the contests were local events, that doesn't mean that he didn't compete, that just means that they weren't that grand in scale.  While Melvin isn't in great shape, the guy has paid his dues by dieting down to the best of his abilities and going on stage.

If this conspiracy theory is true it will partly explain why libelous posts are allowed to remain on Getbig. Clearly someone doesn't want me posting here. Well, it is good to finally hear from the horse's mouth. I accept that. However there could be expert stars. Then, again, everyone is an expert on Getbig.

Goodrum deserves his blue stars. I have always backed that. What I meant was he competed in novice categories and not in open divisions so has yet to be a real competitor.

Even if I competed last in 1975 that wasn't that long ago. Sure, to you younger fellows that was ancient history but to me it was like yesterday. The blue stars should be given

to people who have properly competed. It makes no difference when that was. Titles are forever. I hope Ron understands and appreciates that.

I don't think getting blue stars is going to be life changing.  Nice to have but not that important

BTW, I competed in all my show with no drugs and didn't chose the judges unlike you did for the Mr Canada.  How could you say you won the Mr Canada when you admitted to that

Honestly,  no one has ever talked about you.  Sorry to blow your bubbles.  I am not giving you competitor stars because you havent competed in years, and the competitor starts are for people who have had least competed in the last 10-20 years.

As for your criticizing, some of the shit you say is so out of line and funny it is laughable.

Just give him rainbow colored stars...that should pretty much sum it up.

Expert stars are meant for someone I have met, or if they are in the industry now and go to contests or expos or truly understand the waves and motions of our industry.  Like it or not, bodybuilding these days is also a trend for expos, supplement companies, magazines, even restuarants that cater to clean food, or someone who designs the products.  I truly like to meet people at various expos, and I tend to go to a few.

Next one is the Fit Expo in Los Angeles at the Convention Center - January 29th.
Then the Flex Pro Show in Santa Monica, February 19th.
Then the Arnold Classic in Columbus, Ohio.

If you know me, I am not about conspiracy theories, and truly try to make everyone equal.  I don't like to regulate, unless it is attacking a family, or pure lies, or just attackign someone in our industry who actually does to things to make it interesting.

Integrity, honesty and all that stuff is meaningless in a forum like this.

You are trying to control something that can't, and won't be controlled.

Maybe it's because you're old and you grew up in the days long before the internet. But you just seem like you don't realize what the internet is all about.

Why not diet down, do a masters show and see if there really is a conspiracy against you not getting your stars. Surely a man with your knowledge would be able to get yourself in contest shape in a few months.

Dave Draper trained early in the morning at the original Golds Gym on Pacific Avenue. When I trained there in Oct 1968 I sometimes got there earlier than Dave. That happened because I was sleeping in my VW Beetle pursuing the dream. When my $200 ran out I drove back to Vancouver overnight and half of the way was in the fog!

Well, I noticed that Dave's calves lagged behind the rest of him. So I would make sure I did calves before he got there and could pump them to about 18 1/2 standing straight. Dave would do standing calf raises on Joe's primitive machine and have to add additional plates at the top. Why he used so much weight puzzled me because he seemed to do bouncing half reps with knees bending. I wasn't impressed and felt I knew why his calves remained small compared to his arms. I talked to Dave a bit but he was in the gym to work out so he meant business. Arnold had arrived that month and he seemed easier to talk to and always had an entourage around him. He hung around Venice Beach with the gang but I didn't see Dave there.

In Hawaii several months later I went to the airport with Mits and others to greet Arnold and Dave who were there for guest posing. Arnold clearly took this as a chance to holiday and meet some local gals. I saw him with two different women on the same day. Anyway, Dave remembered my name and said hi to me and Roz. Arnold didn't remember my name and Roz wasn't impressed. She wasn't impressed with Arnold several years later in 1974 when he didn't say thank you for a T-bone steak dinner at our place. Dave was a gentleman compared to self-serving Arnold. Did I mention the babysitter?!

Triceps can be damaged by heavy weights and by putting elbows on pads while exercising. Pullovers and many triceps exercises can damage the connective tissue and cause pain for many years.

I read the two articles referred to here. Both were reasonable and both intelligently written. The study selected 10 men with kidney damage so it is important.

I think back to the champions who died at young ages. What about my friend Ray Mentzer? He died at 47 and his brother Mike was 49. Clearly the sport has become dangerous to the point of insanity. I don't need to do studies to make this conclusion. Who here would embrace even taking 1/4 of what pro bodybuilders are alleged to be taking? No thanks.

Consider the scientific information available to anyone thinking about becoming a pro bodybuilder. Where is the research? Where is the evidence and studies? What are the facts? To think that there are so-called gurus and advisors out there telling bodybuilders what to take, how much and for how long is to play a kind of chemical Russian Roulette. There is no way whatsoever that I would endorse what they do. I would not recommend that any young bodybuilder - male or female - aim to be a professional bodybuilder. The IFBB doesn't do testing for banned substances at the professional level and they should be embarrassed and totally ashamed of their organization. James Manion wasn't available to comment. Bob Chicerillo bullshitted like he does on Getbig. What a sorry mess the professional bodybuilders are in. Women's bodybuilding has virtually self-destructed because of the abuse of banned substances leading to what many consider are freakish females that few admire and that no woman should have to look like. The women's division is probably not viable.

I have always approached bodybuilding from an informed position but even I took risks with small dosages of Dianabol to prepare for competition. Goodness me the drugs didn't give me much and were probably unnecessary. 2 Dianabol tablets a day for 50 days. I used a few bottles of 100 tablets in my career. About 6 months useage in my career.  Would any of the current professionals dare to disclose what they are taking?

I don't consider chiropractors to be medical doctors. So Franco misses out on this list. How did I overlook Dr Whitehead?

There might have been a few women champions who earned high degrees.

I agree. Ron isn't being fair dinkum here. Nubret had blue stars. That dork AVBG had blue stars and he was a beginner going nowhere in bodybuilding.

Nubret didn't have competitor stars, he had Pro Stars.  He also won the Mr Universe and the Mr World.

I met AV and he had bugger all to say to me. I took one look at him and recommended that he take up table tennis. Sort of par for most wannebes on the internet. He bagged my gym so I was keen to meet him. He trained at a 3rd rate club in Liverpool which is beyond the black stump in Sydney.

Who gets anywhere in bodybuilding? I have done just about everything. Look at these anonymous nobodies calling the kettle black!

Vince ... serious question ... what would you do if Arnold wanted to sue you for slander ?

Where have you been? Arnold is a good talker and tries his best to clear himself any way he can. There were allegations about his touching some women inappropriately so he responded like a good politician should. That doesn't clear him of those charges. The guy took a 16 year old babysitter into a bedroom at my place in 1974. I have posted about this on Ironage. So don't tell me that Arnold didn't take advantage of women from time to time. I swear the guy must have felt he was above the law at times. Famous people often feel they deserve special treatment and leeway. Arnold was a star from the moment he arrived in America and wherever he went he had fun with women. Good luck to him.

What is interesting is that very few women have come forward to say negative stuff about Arnold. Perhaps this could mean they were either ashamed of what they did with him or they didn't mind at all. Take your pick.

Seems a little hypocritical of you to piss and moan about what's said about you ( a virtual nobody) .. and yet you've said some pretty libelous things about others that are pretty well known and have the money to hunt you down and make your life a little bit more than just uncomfortable  :-\

And if you have issue with this supposed event .. why did you ALLOW it in your home ?

Can't believe you're whining about some stars.  If its going to be the highlight of your life, then you're pretty pathetic.  If you haven't figured it out,  Ron gives them to people he likes or choses.  There no set of rules.

Vince always seemed extremely jealous of Arnold because he gave him no recognition!!

Seemed like Draper didn`t want him around while he was training and probably any other time also. :)

Vince being in the same sentence as Arnold and Draper is laughable at best.

Arnold sue me for libel or slander? You can't sue if it is the truth. Unlike most here I don't post lies and bullshit. I didn't discover what was going on until it was too late. I didn't want to

make any trouble for Arnold who even then was a celebrity.

In his dreams. Lol. I came up to him and introduced myself as a gesture of goodwill (no one else would go near him) this was after I rubbished "his gym". Then next thing you know I log on after a couple of days and he's talking smack. Ha! No wonder he cops as much shit as he does here on getbig, his overly inflated opinion (of himself) serves him no favors.
Title: Re: Vince Basile crying on Iron Age

I most certainly didn't 'blow him off"!!! Nor did I intimidate him. He knew instantly I was his master and acted accordingly and showed respect. I had heard he was competing so when I finally saw him in person I thought wtf is this guy? He didn't look anything like a big bodybuilder. Sure, he got cut for his show but ended up looking smaller than Arvilla who I think had polio or something because he had no legs.

It is easy to be tough online but not so easy to say the same shit to someone's face. I told him to take up table tennis. We both had a good laugh so there were no hard feelings.
