Post by: Playboy on February 28, 2011, 04:49:48 AM
Ole Anderson, member of the original Four Horsemen, has suffered a broken arm and many cracked ribs in a recent fall.

He has also been battling MS for the past several years.

On behalf of everyone here on the website, we send our best wishes to Ole on a speedy recovery. Get well soon bud.

Ole wasn't too nice to a lot of people, but you still don't like to hear about stuff like that happening to anyone.

I don't like the way he treated Flair in 1994 when Flair went back to WCW. Flair hand fed this idiot when he was a horseman in terms of money and prestige (and he was a lame horseman at that) and he turns around and says, "What use do you have for me know that you lost to Henning on national television?" He really powertripped when he was made head booker of WCW but it failed because he was fired.

Wasn't it Ole Anderson that said that Mark Callaway wouldn't amount to much in the business?

Apparently, he was just as bad - if not, worse - when he headed his own territory.

I think the majority of guys who've worked for him over the years do some type of impersonation - never flattering...

Flair even said on the horseman DVD that Ole, although a member, was no Tully or Arn.

I have a lot of in-ring respect for Ole from the Minnesotta Wrecking Crew days with Gene, but in regards to the Horsemen, he was just in the right place at the right time.  Never fit the mold and was too old and not good enough on the mic.

Oh absolutely. His in ring work was very good but his changing powertripping attitude in the latter years got ridiculous.

I think he was okay.  He was sort of the enforcer before Arn.  The Horsemen always needed a tough guy bodyguard type and he fit the bill.

Of course he was much better when he and Gene were together.  And yes, he didn't quite fit the Horsemen mold.  Flair wearing his Rolex, Tully looking good, and he had his iron on Damn I am good t-shirt.

Is is a shame he turned out so bitter, though.  Flair probably made him more money as a Horsemen than he did his entire career otherwise.

No doubt about Flair making him way more money.  The other thing I can't forgive Ole for is destroying all the old footage from the Omni, including the "Last Battle of Atlanta" with Sawyer/Rich..... and from what I read it was just being an ass, no purpose to it.....

I don't think I heard that.  Of course you would hate him for disrespecting your boy Buzz!

Me either. That's sad if Ole did that.

Either way, it's sad that he sounds like the type of person who would do something like that for that reason.

I think Ole took it way to personally when he stepped away from wrestling in early '87 and then saw that the horsemen were just as successfull with Barry Windham replacing him (forget Luger..that was a joke) and thus became bitter. in other words, the horsemen didn't need Ole.

Surprised none of you guys have heard that allegation.  It's floated around forever, of course most don't have the interest in the Rich/Sawyer fued that I did.  18 months of destroying each other on a damn near nightly basis.....and the culmination was a sold-out Omni where Rich won.  Sad part is, they NEVER mentioned it on GCW, so I had to wait for a magazine to get the result....then a few months later Rich and Sawyer actually formed a tag-team.  Very badly handled ending to one of the best fueds of the 1980's.

Lol..and the guys now complain about being on the road 4 days a week (unless they are touring Europe).

from what I have read at the height of the Rich/Sawyer fued they were meeting each other 4-6 times per week for months on end.  And they bled like stuck pigs EVERY night.....just unreal.  I think it took a lot out of both of their careers.  The toughness of the old-school is beyond question.....example, I would have begged out of a fight with Harley Race at his worst and me at my best....most of the top guys now in WWE?  I'd lose, but I sure wouldn't beg......  ;D

Now that is what "love" of the business is all about. GUys like that paved the way for the whinners of today.

No doubt about it.....not saying the guys today aren't incredible athletes, but like you say, I don't think they have that "love" of the business and it shows thru.  To guys today "paying your dues" is having to wrestle on Smackdown and working 3 days a week tops with a guaranteed paycheck.  Old school was bologna sammiches, working 5+ days EVERY week and paycheck depended on how many people asses you put in the seats in town where a 500+ crowd was a big deal.  Just a whole other level of dedication to their profession that guys today wouldn't have the heart/hunger for....

Flair said on his dvd that the hardest week of his life was back in 1986 when he wrestled Dusty Rhodes to a 1 hour draw for 7 days straight.

Oh, that's the other thing....I know there were "rest holds" back in the day more than now, but they put on some Broadway matches on a very regular basis......even some of the undercard matches went at least 15-20 minutes......where many matches now are over in less than 10 minutes on a very regular basis.  Who would think by looking at Dusty that he could have pulled that off?   ;D

Now, the entrances are 15 minutes and the matches are a mediocre 5 minutes. Maybe ten with guys who are "in shape"  ;)
