Title: The NWO
Post by: The RedMeatKid on September 19, 2011, 09:02:14 PM
I remember when Hall and Nash invaded WCW and powerbombed Bischoff. Then Hollywood Hogan was revealed to be in. That was the beginning of the greatest three years of my life.

Liked the NWO and this era of wrestling too, but take it to the wrestling board kid!  This is the g&o and talking about men in thongs is serious business.  >:(

I am sure they are going to try to recreate it again now that Nash is back but "fired" and Truth and Miz are "fired".

Different name though.

My wife complains all the time about my fandom for wrestling, I just say, "Honey, I'm like a swimming pool; I have a deep end, and a shallow end."

LOVE the idea of Miz in an NWO-style faction, BTW.

I am definitely using this.

The only thing interesting about WCW was it was at War with the Federation. And we know how that ended. But can anyone actually watch this video and say the NWO was cool? It was only a great time in Wrestling to see which company was gonna win. Sweeeeeeeeeet! My nephew is 9 and doesn't know what a WCW is? F everyone of those guys except Perfect and Liz.

Yes Chef... we get it... you hate WCW... We have heard you go on about that for months now.

Didn't have to. Timmys loyalty has and always will be to the Federation.

Yes we know.....but you have never watched anything else so how can you make a comparison?

Not to mention without the NWO there would never have been a D-X

And without DX the Federation would have been no more. But is that because of the NWO or The Heartbreak Kid Shawn Michaels?

Maybe a little of both.

I love HBK, totally mark out for him every time... He is the best wrestler of his generation.

It's because of Triple H.

They tried ever angle with HHH. They couldn't even put him over with Mr. Perfect. HHH owes his whole career to one guy. The Showstoppa. Shawn taught him how to wrestle. Shawn taught him the wrestling buisiness. Then we all know the rest. Mr. Stephanie McMahon. It was so baloney when Foley fell through the top of the cage again with his HITC match against HHH. His fued with Bastista, Cena, and lets not mention the one against Flair were all weak. Then HHH was so stale and such an incredible disappointment with that Orton fued. He only had one place to turn. Mr. Wrestlemania. Now HBK is a born again and lost his smile. They make HHH the Captain of DX. But without Shawns charisma HHH brought the team nowhere. Again HHH fell flat. How long was he out for after that? So then they put him against the Undertaker. Another high profile cake walk main event. Enough with the King of Kings $hit. Now he's back as COO. He's not putting the next generation over. And on top of that he's making movies that no one is ever gonna watch. How many other ways is this guy gonna be forced down our throats?  Now if your not down with that..................

LOL!!!
I was wondering when you’d see my comment.
Timmy is one of my favorite posters on GB, and this is one of my favorite topics to discuss with him!

Admittedly, my post was half-meant to push your buttons, but also half because I believe it is true.
Shawn & Hunter started D-X, but Michaels really wasn’t part of it all that long.
Remember that Hunter took over D-X when it was only a few months old because Shawn left after WM 14 with career-ending injury #6 and some other pussy-shit excuse.

It’s fair to say that Michaels helped HHH to THAT POINT.
However, Hunter went on to become “The Game,” the champ, and one of the hottest heels AND faces of 2000-2003 while Michaels was ABSENT.

Triple H’s most rapid and dramatic rise came AFTER Michaels’ departure and BEFORE his relationship with Stephanie.
So, you can’t attribute his ascension to either of those two factors.

If anything, his popularity waned somewhat after becoming a member of the Clan-McMahon.
Is he worth the exposure now?
I don’t know because I haven’t been following lately.

The thing I’ve always found most interesting about Michaels is that he’s got the smallest, but most devoted fan-base.
There weren’t a lot of fans who loved HBK, but the few who did will defend him until death as the greatest “worker” that ever lived.
We know there weren’t a lot of HBK fans because the Fed experienced its worst financial years during Michaels’ reign as champion.

My favorite observation regarding Michaels came from a U.K. fan in a letter sent to The Wrestling Observer: “No adult male is going to support an obnoxious, blonde, ponytail wearing self-professed sexy boy. No matter how well he does in the ring.”

One other disturbing thing I distinctly remember was from when Michaels was a face pre-attitude era.
They would actually bring little kids into the ring to do the stripper dance with Shawn.

Now, before the HBK marks jump in professing what a great worker their "hero" is, let me qualify my statement:
Yes, I don't deny that Shawn was a great worker in the ring; what I'm discussing here is GETTING LITTLE KIDS TO DANCE LIKE MALE STRIPPERS on TV.
WTF???

That undeniably gay ensemble always made me think of of Eugene Levy in that one scene from Armed and Dangerous:

Of all of the possibilities of ring gear to chose from, why would you intentionally chose the one that makes you look the gayest?

But, don't forget that, financially, the WWF's bleakest years were during Shawn's watch as champion.
He was a great worker, but I just don't think that enough people were into the faggotry of the character.

More people dug Hunter.
And, even with Austin gone and Rock out making movies, attendance and merchandise was much better with HHH in the driver's seat.
It's easier to respect an ultra-determined guy who comes back early from quad surgery than a chippendale with hula hoops hanging from his ears who takes 9 months off at a time because he "lost his smile."
