First Official Pic Of The Dark Shadows Cast, Johnny Depp's TRUE Look Revealed
fans were very nervous/pissed off at those leaked set pics from Tim Burton's Dark Shadows, but now check out the first official look giving us our first glimpse at Barnabas Collins' (Depp) final look for the movie..

This should be some relief for fans that were puzzled by Depp's bizarre appearance in those recent leaked set pics. Both Depp and director Tim Burton chat to EW about the movie..
Johnny Depp:
“I do remember, very vividly, practically sprinting home from school in the afternoon to see Jonathan Frid play Barnabas Collins,” the actor says. “Even then, at that age, I knew — this has got to be weird.”
Tim Burton:
“I remember seeing a group photograph of the cast of the original series,” he tells EW. “For me it captured the weird Dark Shadows vibe in a single image. I had a brief window of opportunity to have our cast present at the same time, the day before principle photography began. We decided to stage a similar picture instead of rehearsing, to see if we captured the Dark Shadows feeling.”
Dark Shadows also stars Helena Bonham-Carter, Michelle Pfeiffer, Eva Green, Chloe Moretz and Jackie Earle Haley and will be with us May 2012.

Awesome..I loved the show and watched it even in reruns.....it really got me hooked big time with the cliffhangers.......I have also gone to the conventions and they are great as well..I think this movie is going to be really awesome

Dark Shadows: Photos From the Set
Empire Magazine was on the set of Tim Burton's Dark Shadows and while the new issue has a feature on this set visit, the mag's website has an excerpt and a couple of never-before-seen photos.
In the excerpt, the film's 1972 setting was addressed, with screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith offering, "Tim and Johnny took a long time explaining exactly why it had to be 1972. 1969 was too early and 1973 was too late. 1972 is right at the time when the hippie movement and all its peace and love is dying out and being replaced by this me-me-me generation in the '70s who are all about showing their wealth and having everything."
Also in the excerpt, producer Richard Zanuck explains why the film was NOT shot in 3D. Dark Shadows will be released on May 11, 2012.

DARK SHADOWS: First Movie Airs on TCM Tonight
This May will see Johnny Depp portraying vampire Barnabas Collins in Tim Burton's Dark Shadows. However, the curious can get a feel for what it's all about with tonight's airing of the 1970 film House of Dark Shadows on Turner Classic Movies.
EdGross - 1/31/2012 Based on the 1966-71 daytime soap opera Dark Shadows, House of Dark Shadows is basically a retelling of the Barnabas Collins story, only closer in vein (yes, the pun was intended) to producer Dan Curtis' original conception of the character. Curtis' idea was that Barnabas would be a real monster, on the show for about six months and then staked to make way for a new supernatural threat once ratings had risen. What he did NOT expect was the phenomenal response the character would trigger from the audience, which forced the writers to come up with a way to make Barnabas a sympathetic (hence the first reluctant) vampire.
With no restrictions, however, Curtis directed House of Dark Shadows and Barnabas was indeed a monster, albeit one hidden from the rest of the Collins family but with a real blood-sucking agenda.
Says Wikipedia, "Dark Shadows producer Dan Curtis began pitching the idea of a film based on his gothic soap opera hit sometime in 1968. The project was finally given the greenlight at MGM by company president James Aubrey in 1970. Curtis decided to use the original Barnabas storyline as the basis for the film, but with a modified conclusion. The film was shot in six weeks for a budget of $750,000. Principal shooting took place at several historic locations, including the Lyndhurst Estate, where the production had to work around the scheduled public tours of the house. Unrestricted by TV's censors, the film is far more graphically violent than its television counterpart, with dripping vampire bites and bloody deaths. The film was released at the height of the TV show's popularity to great commercial success. The paperback novelization of the film by Marilyn Ross (who had written a series of novels based on the TV show) was published in October 1970. The novel is based on the original script, and contains some scenes which were either cut from the movie, or were never filmed."

Dr. Mabuse. The name may or may not sound familiar to you. Once upon a time he was one of the most feared of villains, both in novels and in movies. He, along with his peers Dr. Fu Manchu and Fantomas were the inspirations for modern comic villains. He could control your mind simply on a whim. He was a master gambler, a cheat, a con artist, a master of disguise, a hypnotist. He was evil incarnate. He was fear – the “Great Unknown”. He appeared in two novels, three classic Fritz Lang films, and was so conniving, so terrible, so horrifying – he was even banned from Nazi Germany.
But that was long ago, and then he was forgotten.
Until now.
This May, a new independent film will be released – a dark psychological thriller about a hardboiled detective, and his pursuit of a mysterious criminal mastermind. Its title – Doctor Mabuse.
Doctor Mabuse will premiere on April 27 2013, at San Diego’s Historic Coronado Village Theatre in California, and then begin screenings in May (details are to come soon). The film co-stars Bahia Garrigan, Julian Grant, David Graham, Derek Mobraaten, Annie Waterman, John C. Smith, and Vivian Brasch.
