Title: Pastor backing Perry: Romney not a Christian
Post by: Hugo Chavez on October 07, 2011, 11:03:16 PM
I think more people here agreed that mormonism is not the same religion as christianity in the thread we recently had on the subject.

The Texas pastor who introduced Gov. Rick Perry at Friday's Values Voters Summit in Washington told reporters that he does not believe that former Massachusetts Mitt Romney is a Christian, and called Romney's Mormon faith a "cult."

"Well, Rick Perry's a Christian. He's an evangelical Christian, a follower of Jesus Christ," Dr. Robert Jeffress told NBC News. "Mitt Romney's a good moral person but he's not a Christian. Mormonism is not Christianity. It has always been considered a cult by the mainstream of Christianity. So it's the difference between a Christian and a non-Christian."

From a Christian perspective, sure, we would like to see a Christian in the position but supposedly we have one now who doesn't seem very qualified for the job.   I think most would like a capable person in the job.  This pastor telling people not to vote for Romney "because he is in a cult" doesn't seem that smart if Romney ends up being the one to run against Obama.

why is that not smart?.  Most of the evangelical voters he was talking to think Obama is a muslim.  I imagine they'll pick the mormon over the muslim lol...

Plus, all Mitt has to do is strongly support Israel and the evangelicals will be happy as shit and not really care what he is.  Mit doesn't have a problem in that area, Obama does.

The false belief that having someone in office who is "christian" over someone who is not means a better person for the job is sad indeed....

I would hope they would vote against Obama...but the pastor exhorts them not to vote for Romney "because he is in a cult."  Maybe he should qualify his remark by saying "unless he is the GOP candidate in the Presidential election." :-\

as a pastor, shouldn't he say what he thinks is true in this area?

He can say that if he wants but to imply that simply because a specific person is a Christian makes that person a better person for a specific job than someone else could be incorrect.

Maybe I misread it and he wasn't telling people not to vote for Romney.
