Yea, heard from Special Ed and Block on MW but strange that MD and RX have been silent on it...especially since Louis Uridiel competed in the Excaliber.

RIP

I think you asshole are jumping to conclusions.

Bodybuilding is healthy and if anythign prolongs life.  Imagine if he didn't compete, he probably would have died 20 years ago.  If anything the Excalibur extended his life.

First, you dont know exactly what caused his death...

second, you could say the same of just about any sport and the risks associated with participating in them...I'm quite sure more guys died playing football this year, then BB...

You're right, nobody knows at this time, but most people are thinking diuretics, there is a reason for that.  Bob, you know that diuretics are indirectly promoted in this sport - that dry look everyone loves.  Didn't you go to the hospital once, almost DYING for this sport?

That is a real problem, how come nobody thinks so?  That in order to peak properly you have to use drugs that can almost kill you.  Singerman almost died, he's not even a pro or top bodybuilder.  You almost died.  Dillet almost died.  Or is it OK since you all got saved at the last minute?

here are some stats for you:

In 2006, with an estimated 1.8 million participants in organized football, the survey reported a relatively high 16 indirect deaths but only one fatality directly attributable to football play (a high school running back who suffered a fatal spinal injury when tackled).[5][6]
A 1994 Ball State University survey found that "players in the 1980s suffered serious injuries and underwent operations at twice the rate of those who played in the 1950s or earlier".[7]
A 2000 University of North Carolina study found that in the period between 1977 and 1998, each year on average 13 athletes had suffered catastrophic injuries (primarily permanent paralysis) through direct result of participation in football; it also found that between 1977 and 1998 "200 football players received a permanent cervical cord injury, and 66 sustained a permanent cerebral injury".[8]
An estimated 40,000 concussions are suffered every year among high school players.[9]

Theyre sports...we all take risks, in many different ways.  Sometimes, people get hurt, injured, or die....people play/ participate of their own free will...no one tells them what to do and not do...especially a grown man in his 50's.

Doesnt mean he was uterly retarded to use drugs in order to compete for plastic trophies, especially while having a family. How can you take pleasure in another mans death, especially one you don`t even know anything about or the circumstances surrounding his death.

Steve Kappra was on life support last night.  Not sure about if he died or not.

All of this occurred before prejudging started, which was 10am.  The contest was not postponed or delayed.

According to his friends, Steve fell down, they performed CPR on this, the ambulance came and took him away.  His friend, Jerry Gutierrez, who also also going to compete in the contest, left to the hospital with Steve.

No one at the contest knew anything because there was not much to report.  Except that the ambulance came and took away Steve.

by the way im talking abotu DRY SLICED ,, not hard! dry sandy dry and sliced ,, this take more than just hormones,,you can get bery far in the driness department as natural ...but when it come to hormonized bodybuild you have to use duretics with the size they come with ,, they dont play with 165lb they come larger and cary thickness and water in between muscle and skin that has to go away and dureitc is part of it

He was a "great guy" sure...if you say so... who died... of steroid use, while having a family, knowing he was potentially shortening his life span, but considered it was "worth it" one more time, just like he considered it was worth it for years. Seriously, you re getting autistic there dude. Whats preventing you from admiting the truth. When you pretend to care about others you dont take steroids with the risk of shortening your life span, just to impress a crowd of men posing on a stage in a thong flexing your little water muscles.

He played, he lost. Just like that moron in the other thread who sucker punched too many losers and got shot by a bigger loser than himself at some point.

Theyre sports...we all take risks, in many different ways.  Sometimes, people get hurt, injured, or die....people play/ participate of their own free will...no one tells them what to do and not do...especially a grown man in his 50's.

The difference is that in skydiving, bungee jumping, football, etc the risks and dangers are well known - people go out of their way to educate people on how to avoid them.  They don't lie and deny that they dont exist, they try to increase safety through equipment and education.  That does NOT happen in bodybuilding.  The alchemy of diuretic use is a secret, it's kept in the shadows, and as a result people get hurt or die.  You cannot deny that.

There are many things which might have contributed to his death. What I think is important to remember is that it is better to do what you love to do, even if it kills you, then it is to never do anything at all. Everyone dies sooner or later.

No, it's not taking a step backwards. Taking a step backwards is whats been happening for the past 20 years. More drugs, less training and less dieting, the polar opposite of what it used to be.

R.I.P. Steve -

I was at the NPC Excalibur taking pics, and before prejudging ever started, we heard of a competitor falling down outside of the building, and people rushing to take care of him.  Talking to friends a few days later, the ambulance came quick, and rushed him away, all before the contest began. We didn't know if he was ok or not. Sadly, not.

There will be a Moment of Silence for Steve at the next contest at the Culver City Veterans Auditorium, which will be held on April 14th.  I cannot recall that someone passing away before a contest here in Southern California ever.

From his friends, we do know that Steve loved bodybuilding and that he will be missed.

I will be there in April at the 2012 NPC Amateur Grand Prix.

A moment of silence is nice but what will be done going forward to better minimize the risk of having this happen again? Nearly every competitor on stage is dehydrated and the difference between being healthy on stage and being near death is a razor thin margin. Several years ago I had nearly the same outcome as Steve. After the prejudging of another show, I started cramping, having abdominal bloating, slurred speech and fuzzy vision. I knew I was too dehydrated and could not get down water fast enough. Knowing what was going on a family member rushed me to an urgent care where I got I.V. fluids.

As I was being rushed in an ambulance to the emergency room the paramedic told me that had I come in even an hour later that I would have suffered total internal organ failure and died. Like anyone who steps on stage we each take accountability for what we have choosen to do to get in this sort of condition this however does not exonerate those who run the shows from taking precaution and consideration for the competitors. If the NPC mandates the presense of an EMT on site at shows then the promoter of this show has accountability for what happened. The cost of an EMT could be easily afforded considering the massive number of people who pay to compete at shows like this.

woah! you mean, almost every youth sports event has EMT's on hand yet the events in which the "hardest training athletes in the world" dont? I think youth football might run about $300/year give or take. One contest +npc card ~ $250?

Pretty sure all public events have to have EMT's there by law. Should be there in the guidelines when they pull permits for the event.

A father of my friend died at 54, was cycling (BYCYCLES, not gear) very often, jogged, generally lived a /healhty lifestyle/. During one of his rides - *bam* - lights out... PLENTY of people die at even youngers ages, have a sudden cradiac arrest/etc, and they haven't touched any "gear" in their life.  Not an excuse to risk ones health, but a piece of shit like Uberfag probably just preaches "I just want to arrive to the grave with as less risk involved as possible.." kind of credo, and it's nothing to look up to. I'm sure he'll suffer a heart attack out of that acumulated negativity and self grief he has.

Bob may confirm this but I'm almost positive that there was an ambulance and crew on stand-by in the Orleans Arena parking lot, but I am not aware if it was specifically present for the Olympia event , but it would appear somewhat logical if the venue rental contracts did require that some form of med crew be on site during all sporting events in order to limit that venue's liability.

To the best of my limited knowledge that requirement is presently enforced in Las Vegas.

Very good post. I suspect you are right that very negative people shorten their lives some because of their negativity. It must be stressful to live ones life like that. Stress equals poor health or so the experts say.

maybe competitors should bring their own EMTs to shows.
