Kai may still compete, we shall see.
Also, the 'breakout star' of the FLEX Pro contest in February that is not on the list may be invited to compete in the Arnold also.

Don't sleep on Centopani... I see a three way battle between him Wolf, and Warren. Beyke could do well, but we will see.

On December 22nd, the 2012 IFBB Arnold Classic & Ms International Invite list was officially released to the public. The list was issued by Arnold Sport Festival Communications Officer, Brent LaLonde. After reading through the names, I wondered how these athletes had been selected. Was there some sort of system in place. This year, I decided I would get to the bottom of it!
Eligibility for the Arnold is determined after submitting a written request to the IFBB Office, assuming an athlete is up-to-date with their IFBB Pro Card fees of $200/year. The athlete should then follow up with a more thorough application to the Arnold Sports Festival office. There is no set application, but it is suggested that the athlete list their past contest placings and list any other accomplishments, awards, or associations that may enhance their chance of being selected. Most athletes generally include pictures, as well.
Brent LaLonde informed me of the next step in the process: “We probably have a list of 20 to 25 athletes that want to compete at the event. We then take that list of those athletes and send them off to a panel of industry experts... Guys like Steve Blechman of Muscular Development, Robin Chang of AMI & Weider, Peter McGough (Former Editor and Chief of FLEX)... Those type of guys. Some are experts in the men’s field, some are experts in the women’s field. We ask those experts to rank the athletes whether they are ‘must invite’, ‘should invite’, ‘not ready yet’, or ‘don’t know the athlete’.”
After the experts submit their athlete rankings, the rankings are then turned into scores. Lalonde continues, “Mr. Lorimer and our office look at those tallies, and he adds his input, and we narrow those 20 to 25 down to 14 to 17 per division, and the list that was released right before Christmas is the result of that process.”
I asked Brent what the most important factor was in selecting athletes. His response was simple, “The competitive history of the athlete is the driving factor of who gets into the show and who doesn’t.”
LaLonde continued, “There are some other factors as well... When you see some names on the list that you don’t recognize, they may be past Arnold Amateur winners. If you win the Overall title in your division at the Arnold Amateur and go on to earn an IFBB Pro card, you are guaranteed a spot at the Arnold Pro.”
The first paragraph in the press release stated:
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Branch Warren will return to the competitive stage for the first time in nearly a year when he defends his title at the 24th Annual Arnold Classic at the 2012 Arnold Sports Festival.
It’s never smart to doubt Branch Warren, but I cannot deny I was surprised to read this. By the time the Arnold comes around in March, it will have only been approximately 7 months since he tore his right quadriceps tendon. This happened while getting into his car in Atlanta before a guest posing. I asked Lalonde if Branch was automatically on the list because he won last year or if he specifically requested to be on the list. LaLonde informed me that Branch contacted the IFBB Pro League and expressed interest in making his comeback at the 2012 Arnold Classic. Now that he’s been selected, Lalonde and company fully expect to see Warren onstage in March.
I would like to thank Brent LaLonde for answering all my questions. You can hear the rest of what he had to say on this week’s ACCESS BODYBUILDING (http://www.rxmuscle.com/access-bodybuilding/4791-jefftheproducer-accessbodybuilding-v15-4081.html).

I have to root for the local guy. Especially since he has what it takes to place very well. Go, Shawn Rhoden!
Edit.

This is what I like about the Arnold, it's usually a pretty open contest where three or four guys could win it and this year is no exception - I'll go Centopani for the win, followed by Wolf and Beyeke.

Hmmm....are you the source for him...or vice versa?
No sir. He and I are both proteges of former Mr. Universe and Natural IFBB Pro Yohnnie Shambourger. Yohnnie helped me to practice my posing routine as I prepared for the 2010 Musclemania Universe in Miami. Due to his encouragement, I ended up winning the Professional Division title at that show.

Looks like they are trying to cut costs by not having as many guys in the Mr O this year.
-
When is pre-judging?
-
Branch, Wolf, Beyeke, Dex, Evan... All comes down to whose day it is!
-
Beyeke for the win.
This guy has a hard time getting lean.
-
Looks like they are trying to cut costs by not having as many guys in the Mr O this year.
Not trying to cut costs but the O has been getting too saturated. It is suppose to be the best of the best and when you have 20 or so competitors it gets ridiculous.
-
Beyeke for the win.
I think he will be 4th or 5th.

Well, Jim Lorimer is the main guy behind the Arnold Classic. Jim and his team (who I have seen do an incredible job for 14 years now - my 14th Arnold Classic this year) built up the largest bodybuilding and industry related event in the US. Here is a story on Jim on Bodybuilding.com
Bodybuilding fan? You need to know Jim Lorimer. This former tackle, FBI agent, mayor and current bodybuilding impresario has meant nearly as much to the sport as Arnold himself.
Boys and girls dream. They are soldiers, policemen, football players or politicians. Jim Lorimer spent the last 80 years making his dreams, and those of thousands of aspiring boys and girls, come true.
Lorimer was a football star in high school. He served in the Navy in World War II. He joined the FBI out of college. He worked for decades for Nationwide Insurance. He was/is still the mayor of his hometown, but his great talent is as a promoter.
He watched the USSR beat the USA in an Olympic-style dual meet in 1959. The defeat spurred him to organize an Olympic prep course for teen girls that changed the way the U.S. prepares for Olympiads. In 1970, after revolutionizing women's sports in America, Jim made a call that would change his life, and bodybuilding, forever.
The recipient: a young man with dreams of his own. A young man named Arnold.
He called Arnold Schwarzenegger at Gold's Gym in Venice Beach, Calif., asked the Austrian import to compete in the Mr. World in Columbus, Ohio, which took place the day after Mr. Universe in London. Lorimer arranged red-eye flights and connections to bring The Oak to Ohio to face 3-time Mr. Olympia Sergio Oliva.
"Everyone was watching Sergio and Arnold," Lorimer said. "They started to match shots. That's the first time there was a pose-down."
Arnold won $500 in front of an audience of 4,000 people. After the competition was over, Arnold told Lorimer: "This is the best competition I've ever been in. When I'm done competing in the sport of bodybuilding, I want to go into the promotion of the sport and do everything I can to legitimize and raise the image of the sport and I'm going to come back to Columbus, Ohio and ask you to be my partner."
Schwarzenegger kept his vow. He returned six years later, met with Lorimer and the two partnered to promote bodybuilding events. The Arnold Classic was born.
The rest, as they say--35 years' worth--is history.
The rest of the story is here...

Surprising how many people think that these new guys are not only going to take it from Dex and Branch, but that Dex and Branch are not even going to place!

Ya no shit lol at the ones thinking Bayeke winning, ha that is funny and I would say they really know very little about bodybuilding for saying that, I mean Phil Heath was basically undefeated and won his first 3 pro shows and got spanked at the Arnold, barely making top 5 and Bayeke is no Phil Heath, to think he will win, hilarious, the Arnold is a different ball game altogether

Will Maria Shriver be there too this year ?
