i want everyone of you christian or jewish or atheist gbs to imagine himself in this situation and say what would he really do.. not only american gbs but also europeans, austoralians.. whatever.. i know all of you are funny ::) but let's make it a little bit serious here.. just say the reaction you really expect yourself to take in this situation aside of gb typical sarcastic way:
- would you support the muslim woman??.. to what extent??..
- would you support the seller??.. to what extent??..
- would you just ignore the situation and buy your things and leave??..

I would speak up for her or at the very least walk out and not support that business.
Sadly most people in america are prejudice against muslims and arabs. But the location they chose, Texas is more backwards than most places. If they would have done that experiment in some more liberal part of the country like Seattle Portland or San Fran I think most people would stick up for her.
But again look at the other customers, old from the heartland tend to be more prejudice. Just my 2 cents.

The ending really got me teary eyed. You'll notice that all the supporters of the bigot actor were old people. It's hard to change old people. The younger people tended to be supportive of the Muslim actress. It all has to do with ignorance and not enough exposure to different types of people.

Women? I would help a woman and have done so although it was just a matter of answering some questions about getting a taxi and other related things in a very public place. The odd thing about that instance is that the two women appeared very worried while talking to me. I later found out that these two women could have gotten in a lot of "trouble" just for talking to another man, let alone an "infidel".

As for the store owner, any store owner really, they can refuse service to whomever the want to refuse service to. actually in nearly all the gulf countries americans and european are treated much better than arabs and asians when it comes to salaries.. an american at least takes double the salary of the arab or indian who do the exact same job with the exact same abilities and qualifications..
a true story told to me by one of my friends who lives in dubai,.. an arab guy who had the american nationality beside his actual one joined their company and after his salary was set they discovered he was only half amercian and decreased the salary to the half!!!..

you are correct, and I was not justifying the actions of the store-owner. Just putting some perspective into it- we don't live in a perfect world, and the west is less imperfect when it comes to matters of equal treatment.

You said nothing of any merit in your post, only speaking of how horriblly men treat women in Islam. I am a non-believer, so I have no dog in the Islam right or wrong argument, but could you please explain to me how the way men treat women in a specific faith should effect how you judge a woman of that faith?
Clearly the woman (or women) in the clip chose to be apart of that culture and that belief. Even if they were raised in a Muslim household, if they didn't want to accept those beliefs, they don't have to. Granted, I'm sure this would affect her families views of her, but if she truly hated muslim men or the muslim faith, she does not have to openly embrace those beliefs.
Punishing a woman by not serving her due to the way men of the same faith feel about woman is utterly moronic.
By the way, it is illegal for a store owner to openly refuse service to someone based on religious beliefs.

Of the 22 who didn't take any action, many of them may be scared of the situation escalating into a confrontation. Many persons in TX carry firearms. Therefore, you have to be very careful who you pick a fight with. I still think I would probably curse the store owner out, make a comotion, and then storm out. However, generally try to avoid confrontation with complete strangers. You never know if they're carrying. Therefore, I can respect the people that didn't do or say anything. They may be worried about the whole situation escalating into something that could get out of hand.

I'm not a fan of discrimination even in the form of a business owners right to serve who they want. Refusing service just for the sake of plying your ignorance and bias shouldnt be a right. As a non believer I view the shop owners belief on the same level I view the Muslim belief. It's their business but neither one is better or worse than the other. Had he acted an ass in public and in front of me I would make the assumption he wants input from me since he is showing his ass in front of me. Therefore I would have been more than willing to let him know my opinion is he is a backwoods social neanderthal who needs to expand his world past O'Reilly and Springer and I would take my business elsewhere. Like I said, sometimes it's just not worth it. In todays society, you never know what kind of a nut with a happy trigger finger you're dealing with. It's better to try to keep yourself out of situations that could end up escalating into firearms being pulled. Long gone are the days of settling fights with words and fists. Now, 14 year olds kids are carrying guns.

It goes beyond what people get paid, it has to do with justice and equality in all sectors. Gulf arabs are some of the most racist people I have ever encountered, and funnily enough the Egyptians who live there are one of the worst kind. no offense to you ofcourse ;D I have not been to Egypt, so I do not know what Egyptians are like outside the UAE, but they were real fucking trouble makers.
The point I was trying to make is that prejudice against in the US is way overblown, I have never heard of a muslim getting beaten up, refused a job, getting paid less, etc. while such examples are not so uncommon in some areas of the middle east (the gulf as I have mentioned). kind of a different scenario but kind of the same- i was on the island of ko lanta in thailand- its not a very developed place at the time, only had phone lines and electricity for like 6 years before i got there. there was a little convenience store owned by thai people who are just trying to support themselves. i was in there when a wealthy middle aged german couple walked in- i say wealthy cause you could tell from his watch and her jewllery.
the cheap fucking cocksuckers then proceeded to try to barter the thai people down on items in the store that are already vastly underpriced to begin with compared to what you'd find on phuket, a main island. the guy is wearing a 5k rolex and trying to fuck these people out of 30bhat (1$) the whole while they (the germans) were being rude ignorant fucking douchbags, to the point i felt embarassed and upset.
i made a point of walking by them on the way out and saying 'you should be ashamed of yourselves'.
no wonder nobody likes germans.
so yeah, if racsim were involved its going to another level, and someones getting their head cracked. i have no patience or room for that shit.

You can deny anyone any goods for whatever reason you want in the United States. The government cannot force a proprietor into a legally binding contract of a sale without consent. He has the right to say whatever he wants to her if it were a real scenario. There is a thing called the first amendment. Perhaps your country outlaws free speech, our does not and never will.
You can deny anyone a sale for any reason you want and insult the prospective buyer in the process if that is your choice with no legal ramifications.

You probably read something translated poorly from Arabic scripture also without any supporting commentary on the context in which the scripture was revealed (likely done intentionally to be biased against Islam), to believe what you're allowed to "beat" wives.
Also, cars did not exist when Islam was revealed, some countries not allowing women to drive is solely based on that country's clerics' interpretation of Islamic rules, often driven by their culture.

The Qur'an is not written in English + trying to translate individual verses withoutknowing the context in which they were revealed in or studying the related "Hadiths" can be very misleading. I had the opportunity (if one can call it that) to view the infamous video of the man having his head cut off. I passed. I also passed on viewing women being stoned. A single frame of a woman buried to her shoulders with a bunch of apes standing around with rocks at the ready was all I could stand.

actually this feeling came to me yesterday while i was buying some sweets for my son.. a 9-10 girl wanted to buy chips but the seller didnt want to give her because she had one paper of 10 pounds and he told her he had no change.. most probably he had a lot of coins but he was lazy to count 8-9 coins to give to her especially the shop was full of children who wanted to buy many things (it's a shop inside the club so it's safe for very young kids to go and buy alone).. the little girl got depressed and returned the chips to its place and looked at the floor and was going to leave.. the sight of her leaving without what she wanted while all the other kids were getting what they liked really killed me.. i moved quickly after her and told here hey sweety what did you want ballalalalalla and gave her the coins she needed and left..

I don't know if you are being serious or not but I will provide some simple answers. Again, I am not a biologist so I suggest you do some research yourself. One of the reasons evolutionary biology is so difficult for the average person to comprehend is that it is complex and I as a layman would be doing a disservice by attempting to explain its intricacies.
The idea of species evolving randomly is incorrect. Evolutionary changes don't just happen. Species evolve as a result of environmental changes that places stress on a species to adapt to these changes. Some of these changes are very slow and therefore are difficult to see in the short term. Creatures, as you refer to them, are evolving all the time. Extensive research as been conducted on bird species of the Galapagos islands which demonstrate that very fact. Look into it.
Bacteria and Virus (I understand there is a debate on whether viruses they are living or not) are excellent for studying the evolutionary process. Because of their fast replication rates it is easier to observe changes. That is why it is very difficult to find a cure for many bacterial and viral diseases because they evolve very quickly and medicine is unable to keep up with the rate they evolve.

Atheist here. To be quite honest I haven't a clue as to how all this (the earth, the universe, and everything in them) came to be and to offer suppositions is beyond my educational background. As for your question regarding "God" I think that I am as "qualified" as any because God is much easier to "study".
For example, in the Old Testament of the Bible God was much more shall we say, "active". Do something wrong and you were likely to be smitten. God decided things like battles by requiring that Moses hold his hands aloft. Makes sense to me...Not. God allowed for the horrible persecution of Job at the hands of Satan. Said persecution including financial devastation and killing his family. But apparently that was okay because once God was proven right by Job's faithfulness, God rewarded him with a new family and wealth.
If God were really "God", why not just restore the original family? Bring them back from the dead. Gives one pause, does it not? When Christ walked the earth there were still accounts of "judgment". Demonic possession was seemingly common but God was no longer as active in punishing folks. Jesus came to change the rules. If we are to believe the New Testament, he healed the sick, raised the dead, fed the hungry and taught (and lived) a life of peace. He did all this and men killed him. Typical of men, really. But -
He promised that believers would be able to do even greater things in his name and again, according to the New Testament his apostles did the works of their master. However for over two thousand years now no one has done anything remotely Christlike (i.e., miraculous) in his name. Oh many have done evil in the name of God and of the man many consider to be his Son, and while that doesn't make for an argument against the Christ it does show that over time and as man has progressed and advanced himself (most men, some cling to archaic bullshit) God seems to have decided not to show himself in any way, shape or form. Many of today's "men of God" (and even women) are in it for the money and/or power. Be they christian or muslime.

another story i just remembered.. it's banned to train in our gym with slippers or jeans but many guys ignore this and wear whatever they want (including me sometimes).. every now and then they give instructions to the gym coaches to be strict with members to wear sports clothes only but they do this with weaker/younger members only!!.. so one time about 5-6 years ago while entering the gym i found one of my christian gym friend sitting at the gate and was not training because he was wearing jeans.. he was about 5 years younger than me..i took him to the coach and told him your are kidding and it's shameful to achieve this instructions with some members only and leave many others wear whatever they want.. and the kid entered the gym and trained with his jeans..

However, I could care less what other folks choose to wear or not wear, so long as they wipe their sweat off the bench when they are done. I think Sherief and other followers of that "faith" are well aware of the penalty for speaking against it in any way, shape or form. The ABC show, What Would You Do? is a scripted show designed to get people thinking about how they would react in any given situation. I have watched the show when it was about personal business which was being played out in a restaurant by actors. In the show where the (actor) clerk refuses service to a woman (also and actor) simply because she's Muslim, I don't believe they are suggesting this action is racist at all, just that some folks might think it is wrong and would hopefully speak up for the woman. It is a show about human nature as much as anything. Although it was just one short clip, it didn't surprise me that the man wasn't interested in taking the Muslim woman's side. Perhaps in other clips of this segment, folks did speak up for her, although I wouldn't be surprised if that didn't happen since it was filmed in "redneck" Texas.

Are you trying to convert him to your religious beliefs? Otherwise, why do folks engage in these ridiculous arguments? Seems to me, there is room in this world for all folks to believe what they want as long as they don't try and impose their beliefs on others.
It is sad and interesting that so many wars have been fought and lives have been lost because of differences in religious beliefs. If I believe in God at all, the God I believe in only wants good, peace and harmony among men. If there is a God who wants war, hatred and death to anyone who doesn't believe a certain way, he's not my God. If this tyrannical God is the only God, then I will be an atheist.

Evidence? Show me hard evidence that there is a God. And don't bother quoting the Bible because in my opinion the Bible, which was written by man, is nothing more than folklore. Man has a rich and long history of making up rules for others to live by. Not that I mind these rules when they make sense and make life better for everyone and not just those who think they've "found the way."
Of course the Bible (rule book) was written in an ancient time when life was very different than it is today. Many of the those rules don't make sense today. Don't agree? Read Leviticus then.
