Post by: tbombz on February 09, 2012, 10:24:18 AM

four months? this is a lot.

in nyc it is first last + security + agents fee, most of the time in fact there is no fee and often it is only security + first month

a lot of this depends on ur credit

make sure this is actually the renter and u r not getting scammed

Is it 1 bedroom or 2? Do you need the fireplace, that is a luxury, find one w/o it.
Also, do you plan to have Internet/cable? Any hidden fees (trash pickup, recycling)?
And are you splitting the bills or will she pay the majority of it.

1450 a month. Are you fucking kidding me. How are you going to afford that  ???

That's a luxury appartment like Paker said. Save some money and find a cheaper place. You don't need all that for a couple of college kids.

Also look at Aptratings.com or something like that. It will give ratings of the apt (sometimes you can't always go by that, as only the complainers rate)

also, has anybody noticed that "tan" carpeting is the default carpeting of almost any apt?

I've lived all over the country.  $1450 a month is retardedly high rent.  You can find very nice places to rent for much cheaper.

Sounds like you never lived in Cali, Seattle, NY or Miami.

Cause most don't have down payment money to purchase homes.  Took me and the wife a couple years to save a down payment for our home.

Yea, that I understand but paying 1450 a month for rent ain't helpin' in saving that 'down payment'....

Rational human being would live modestly for the time it takes to collect that nest egg and then buy a house. Just my opinion - in the end it comes down to personal preferences of course.

What special school is in Monterey that you can't find elsewhere?

You'd be better off living in Salinas and driving a little each day.

1. NOT a good idea moving in with the GF

having said that, 1450 isnt a whole lot in monterey. Very stuffy crowd there though. tourist and rich people. I dont think youll fit in with either crowd. EVERYTHING else there (food, gas, gym) is expensive too.

I assume youre going to cal st monterey (b/c its the only school i know of there) which is a nice place.

i say fuck it, youre only young once, do it.

Well, yes, that's definitely another piece of the pie.  I see so many kids with nothing trying to move out their folks house into flashy apartments into flashy areas of town wanting to drive expensive cars and can't afford gas let alone the apartment rent or car payment.   My wife and I lived in a number of rundown turds and drove a few beaters while working in low paying jobs slowly climbing our way up......took many years to climb.

I have nothing of value to add, but I want to take this opportunity to let everyone know that I hate Monterey and I will explain why...

Back in the summer of 2008, I was partying in Cancun and met this sexy mexican girl with a big ass and nice body at a club named Bulldog (those who have been to Cancun may be familiar with it). Anyways, we were making out all night, and some girl I had sex with each of the past two nights was really pissed that I was making out with another girl in front of her. Unfortunately, I couldn't seal the deal because she had to go back to her hotel with her friends and she wouldn't come to mine. At least that is what it seemed like because we had an impossible time communicating since her English was so bad. We actually spoke more in Spanish (mine is decent). Nevertheless, it was a cool experience getting hot and heavy with an authentic Mexican girl. Anyways, it was dark and I was really drunk.

Two days later I am at the airport with my friends. As we are waiting at the gate, here comes some girl out of nowhere who can't speak English smile at me and give me a hug. She had 2 missing teeth and her face looked terrible. Then I realized it was the same girl. My friends, as well as the girl I banged the two previous nights were there to witness this. They couldn't stop laughing uncontrollably. And so my great memory turned into an awful embarrassing one and I get reminded about it to this day.

Anyways, thanks for letting me tell you my story getbig

Tbombz, find a apt for 980-1,000...it will probably be in a shitty, crime ridden place, but you have love to guide you. Save your money...

Or find a house in which the both of you can rent a room---make sure the other tenants are cleaned, well groomed and don't do rec drugs---as your shit will get stolen.

Also, make sure that this woman is a long-termer, you don't want to start living together, and y'all get into a fight and she rolls and you are stuck with the rent...

Good advice make sure both names are on the lease. Our just let her sign it. Find a cheaper place. You won't even look at the view after a week.

thats an absolutely terrible deal.

thats too high of rent for someone without a job.

first find a job out there, everything in monterey is expensive.

and NEVER pay 4 months rent just to reserve a place. The only thing thats exceptable is first/last months rent and a security deposit.

Weren't you single as of almost a month ago? Now you are splitting a $1400 apartment with a girlfriend that new?

I would try to see if they will accept a 6 month lease or something along those lines that way if things go bad you don't get too far in debt. Spending a school loan to help you get a nicer place is obviously a very poor financial decision. It will be a bitch if things don't work out between the two of you and things go sour but I hope the best for you.

He's using part of the loans to stock up on gear and growth hormone to don't forget  ::) Tbomz you're an absolute idiot bro. I'm not trying to sound like a dick but you're making all the wrong decisions. Get your fucken head on straight man. Why would you waste that kind of money on an apartment with some girl you just recently met. You make really bad decisions in life.

1. Get a cheaper place! Find some good people to move in with rent will be cheaper. Let the girl live at home she can come visit when she wants. You want your space especially if you're going to college. You want to be stuck living with a bitch during college?

2. Get a job!

3. Start thinking about your future instead how many drugs you can buy with the money you have

You can still juice and have fun but damn why would even think about using your student loans for gear. You just set yourself up for failure and depression.

I'm not trying to be a dick it's just how I see it.

Tbombz, the view wears off, not unless you have a freaking millin dollar condo, does one really truly enjoy and reap the benefits of a good view (that's if the condo looks onto a exclusive strip club or nude beach)

you start off small, if you can't afford it. You have to make sacrifices...like, no cable for instance. Cutting out things you don't need, wants are diff than needs. And many get their wants mixed up with their needs. You don't need a view or a lux apt. If your girl is going to grad school, the there are certain needs that she has....how quietvis the place, etc. Then, will your drug usage hinder her, will there be traffic in and out of the palce? Are both of you slobs, or is one of you? Cooking---your food bill...all of that needs to be taken into account.
Plus, a job...is she working? Are you? Wanting to live in a lux place when one person is workig or one is in grad school is not financially sound decision making.
Plus, look for 1st time deals, usually around Sept apt complexes have deals, like
1100 for the same apt, and so on.

I learned a good lesson the last place I lived. We paid a lot extra because we have this big porch overlooking a little pond. We thought that shit was so great and we would be out there all the time blah blah blah. We hung out there a handful of times. It's not worth the extra money. I spend all my time in front of the tv or in my room jacking off when I'm at home. Who cares about the view.

Meanwhile, if you were single you could live by yourself and be having 10 times as much fun getting blasted whenever you want and bringing home random skanks to fuck on a couch you found behind a dumpster in your 500 sq. foot apartment at a percentage of the cost.

Also, how many cars are parked during the day? Look at that...if a lot, it means people don't have jobs...for any economic times...

I was helping my sis look for apts outside of DC, there was one near the metro, and this thing was 1,200 for something that look like a shack that Shrek would live in---1200 for shit, all because you were right near the metro---the trains would rock the place.
My sis ended up finding a place for 1700, yep 1700...she is no longer there, but just to be near the Metro due to her working in DC was the selling point.

That's a luxury appartment like Paker said. Save some money and find a cheaper place. You don't need all that for a couple of college kids.

I was looking out for his best interest you're right. I just couldn't sleep well at night knowing I'm blowing all the money. I'm just getting by right now though so I don't really know what it's like to spoil myself.

A friend of mine has been working for his dad now since highschool. Both major salesmen for this company that sells computers and tv monitors to hospitals. His dad has like 3 houses a dodge viper, bmw, multiple luxury suvs. I couldn't imagine making all of that money. My buddy makes over a 100 grand a year maybe even more. Has his own apartment in Boston. Pay 1200 a month by himself  :o It's really not even that nice it just costs a lot to live in the city. Besides that he's very smart with his money! Doesn't have any bad habbits, same car for last ten years, very simple life. When he gets older he will be able to enjoy the finer things in life. Very smart dude. If I had that kind of money I would blow so much.

Hey tbombz just a quick announcement on the 'massive' mass-less particle debate we've been having.

Just for shits and giggles, today I asked a professor of theoretical physics(that works at the LHC if that means anything to you) about this issue. I presented both sides of the argument we've been having and I also specifically asked him "Do photons have mass in ANY sense of the word, no matter the definition? He clearly said "NO". He also pointed out that the connection people sometimes make between relativistic mass and photons is incorrect.

Science doesn't rely upon authority, but sometimes it's probably best to just listen and accept certain facts.

i agree in principle, and i really do not blame you what so ever for just repeating what the experts say. in their own context, they are certainly correct. but as he said, the vast majority of people think of an entirely different context for the terms being used. which is quite misleading.  i would love to have a debate with your professor. this fall i was on a couchsurfng camping trip to volunteer in yosemite national park and this french guy from the island of reunion who is an astrophysicist was there and we had a delightful conversation on such topics.  there is an afgahn dude who is studying at the school my gf went to for her BS and we go to parties at her friends apartment all the time on campus and he is there, we always get into discussions about islam, u.s. middle eastern policy, etc. very enlightening to talk to people who have first hand experience, experts, on issues im interested in.

all that to say, i guess, that im really not close minded like you may think i am, there are just cerain ideas i am fond of and enjoy bringing up in discussion. i appreciate anyone who engages in discussions with me on these issues, no matter how disagreeable i may be, as most people hate talking about "taboo" subjects and are instantly turned off by the topic.

im glad i got you thinking enough about the issue to go to your professor about it !  :)

one thing you brought up the other day i didnt respond to, is that gravity doesnt act on photons. but do you remember how einstein proved his theory of relativity? it was by calculating the curvature of light as it passed the sun, because the suns massive gravitational force cause the beam of light to shift !  ;)

Rent the cheapest apartment you can tolerate.    At the end of three years, the extra 10 grand you saved on rent in your pocket make you much happier than any memories of a great view.

Never put yourself in a situation where you could be potentially be over your head, or hurt your credit if you get stuck.

And, remember, the buyer/renter has the leverage in this market.  If you feel an offer like the one you started may be too much, it probably is.

Good luck Taylor.

Right, an indirect effect. It's not as if gravity is pulling on the photon, as it pulls on the planets in the solar system.

Warping of space time and gravitational force are two different things (as you know already).

No stupid, thats not what I was getting at. What I'm getting at unless his parents are helping him in some way she shouldn't be using the loan as a WANT but rather a NEED. I see too many students using they're student loan money on things OTHER than school. He said himself he's spoiled so thats what he WANTS but in reality he doesn't NEED something that expensive.....get it?? When comes up short for school he's going to be fucked.
he s not even going to understand what they ll be talking about at this shit school. Moron just got sent there by his parents who dont know what to do of his sorry ass and pay for everything, as long as he finally fucking go away from them. Dude is immature, ignorant, nobody knows what to do with him, not even himself. He's too fucking dumb to ever get any kind of degree. Apply for some shitty manual job once and for all and stick to it already, know your place tbum. Dont let your parents waste more of their money on your new delusional "plan". Without those poor black girls who want to go white at all costs to purify their genes and chose you to do so -rofl...- you d be nothing in this world.

LOL....I have a $1.4mil loan on my house and had loans on cars in the past. I started my business by handing out business cards so no loan was ever needed. I don't believe in being in debt and believe if you don't have the money to pay something in cash you can't afford it. Student loans, home loans and expanding a business is an exception as long it could be paid back. Look up the stats on student loan defaults (I also know they never go away unless you die).

Right, an indirect effect. It's not as if gravity is pulling on the photon, as it pulls on the planets in the solar system.

Warping of space time and gravitational force are two different things (as you know already).
i was failry certain that the warping of space time and light that passes through it was due to the gravitational effects of large bodies of mass. untill you said this. looked into, seems like i was correct.  mind expanding on your position or providing some sources that do?

nah the push to forgive student loans is economic common sense. educated individuals are much more productive and over the course of their life contribute much more tax revenue than uneducated individuals. free education makes fiscal sense.  my student loan is extremely small, tuition is a flat rate of 3k per 6 month term and since they allow me to work at my own pace and i transfered with about 70 credits ill be done with my bachelors in 1 or 2 terms. grad school costs 4k per 6 month term and thatll take 2 terms.  total cost of tuition only about 15k for a bachelors and masters.. and with an MBA ill be making good money.

Yes, but there is no gravitational force acting on the photon. It would have to have to have mass for that to happen.

Put simply: gravity warps space, and light passes through warped space. Not: huge gravity, so light bends toward it.

as i understand it, your wrong. if warped space is acting on something, gravity is acting on it, and vice versa. since the term ideas are , while different, essentially the same.  well, from what ive gathered, gravity is actually a misnomer. no such thing, says einstein.. massive objects dont pull you towards themselves, warped spaces pushes you there.

BTW dudes the department of education is a big expense on taxpayers.

Xerzes shut up.

With a subsidized loan, the federal government absorbs the interest while a student is in college and six months afterward. If the CCRAA program is abolished, students would be responsible for the interest accumulated during the six months after they graduate.
With unsubsidized loans, students pay the interest that is built up during college and during the six-month grace period after graduation. The government uses a formula to determine a student's need and how much money they will receive with each type of loan. The formula includes factors like income, family size, number of people already in college and the family's assets.

The context of our discussion is whether photons have mass, and you presented this phenomena as evidence of it with the understanding that the Sun was 'pulling' (or pushing, whichever u prefer) hence causing a change in its trajectory.

What is actually happening is that light is moving through warped space, without feeling any gravitational force. If that was the case, then we would have photons revolving around the Sun.. and perhaps light never even reaching us because of the Sun's huge gravitational pull

V. Conclusions
This paper has detailed the enormous benefits associated with increased education. Investment in human capital enables individuals to increase their future earnings and enhance their experience in the labor market. The knowledge that education benefits the individual student in terms of increased earnings is widespread, but information is incomplete about the benefits that increased education has on society. In the information economy of the 21st century, education will become increasingly important. Investment in education contributes to enhanced labor force productivity and enables individuals to become better citizens and parents in addition to being better workers. The effectiveness of American education will have an important impact on U.S. economic performance for the foreseeable future.

because you went to an ivy league school means no one else is intelligent or educated ?  ;D i know bay is a smart dude. you on the other hand.. i have seen some evidence your well informed on certain subjects but , and dont take this as a personal attack, ive yet to see any indication of deep thought or advanced analytical skills.  those guys i mentioned are seriously smart dudes deserving of respect.

You did read what I quoted you on, right?

You said "the only people on this site" who are both intelligent and educated, never did I say that just because I have multiple degrees from a couple of IVY league schools that it is an indication of others being any less capable of displaying intelligence.  What you did imply with your statement was an absolute, as in "only those which you mentioned on this site" are both intelligent and educated, a statement which is a high stretch of the imagination.

I've yet to find any reason why men parading around on a bodybuilding site should be involved in deep thought or highly analytical thinking, but whatever makes you happy.  I find this place has a lot of good material for toilet reading and pictures for "fapping".

I'm just a comfortable homosexual  ;)

Rent is insane in California especially where he wants to live.

but there is no such thing as gravity ! there is only warped space ! however the idea that if gravity acts on something then it has mass is still relevant because interchange gravity (the old concept) with warped spae (the new and more accurate concept), and we still have a truth !  :)  your comment about light light orbiting the sun.. its moving way too fast and its mass is way to little for the warped space to cause it to go into orbit !
There is  some confusion about the proper use of terms.

--'Gravity' is real: two masses pull on each other. Gravitational pull maybe due to warped space, but it is a real measurable force that acts nonetheless, given by F= G*m1*m2/r^2.

--A force pulls or pushes an object of mass. We are perpetually being pulled toward the Sun, because we have mass. A photon is unaffected by this.

--However if light is passing through space, and there is a warp in space it will appear to bend. It is not because it is being pulled toward a center of gravity, it is simply passing through that particular area of space.

if it's an expensive area then, 1,400/mo is probably a good deal for renting a home.

i'm not one of those people who views renting as "a waste of money" since when you buy property you are spending a large portion on paying off compounded interest anyways and no, homes aren't always a good investment look at the housing bubble crash of 08. also, real estate value is determined almost exclusively on location.

Nothing to wiggle out of. Unless his loan is privately funded I could careless.

Loans are privately funded, your nemesis obama this year passed law no longer subsidizing student loans(ie federal stafford subsidized and unsubsidized).  If Tbomz takes a loan out he or his guarantors will be liable for the principal plus interest payments.

me and the gf arent going to rent it unless its still on the market in late may. were splitting rent so we can afford to slurge a little. her student loan budgets 1500 per month for housing. my federal loan wont cover rent at all, just tuition basically and a little left over cuz my sister is paying for the first term.. without her helping the loan wouldnt even cover full tuition. im hoping to get my parents to cosign on a private loan to finance my living expenses while taking clases. i plan on spending about 60 hours per week on average doing classes and i dont want to have to do anything else. im very excited and motivated to get this done, and when i want to do something i do it 150%.  if given the oppurtunity to focus on the schooling alone and not have to worry about work i am fully confident i can get done what should take 4-5 years in under 2.

It's just called having some common sense about the situation. Right now if you can raise a decent down payment, back it up with a 15 year fixed at current interest rates and put it towards a fairly priced home in a good location, that is a pretty solid investment.

I realize that I'm not discussing nuclear physics and how it relates to the existence of god so in Tbombz's mind I'm not that "intelligent" but what he is doing is just a stupid financial move and it doesn't take a genius to figure THAT out.

He asks for advice, then ignores the advice from the guys who have been there and done that.

I highly doubt he's ever set a goal, buckled down and got to work, dedicated himself, and achieved what he originally set out to do. But I guess that really isn't important when the school you're planning to attend gets routinely compared to the "University" of Phoenix.

you know im not going to just accept your post  ;D

For ordinary particles with mass, the gravitational pull is carried out by so called gravitons(massively supported by theory but not by observation yet due to the unbelievably small scale they exist in) but photons are not affected by these. The path of a photon is only affected by the curving of space time as a side effect of a huge mass, like the sun for example.

So photons are technically not affected by gravity itself. If saying that they indeed are affected by gravity but only indirectly makes you feel better then sure why not.

My last semester I carried 21-22, and had permission from the Dean,
in fact one class, I had to drive up from the school I was student teaching in Annapolis, to the dept chair's office, just to be the only student---on Mondays.
And that was to grad in 4 yrs instead of the 5 for the dual major (Hist-Secondary Ed).

i havent looked into this yet, last bit of research i did on the matter (no pun intended  ;D ) was to look into haiders posts.. during that bit of searching i came across a video from the asian physicist you always see on science channell.. thinks hes from harvard or yale or stanford.. anyways he says in the video gravity doesnt really exist..  that its a misnomer to say two objects pull eachother towards each other or are attracted to one another.. its just that any object that exists bends the space around it... like a bowling ball in the center of a trampoline... so that anything within its sphere of influence will move towards it because of that bent space..   gravity was a failed hypothesis..  at least thats what i remember from the video i watched..     so the whole gravitrons things doesnt seem to hold up within that context...    that being said ill look into it..
