Title: Shogun Vs Machida Full Fight.
Post by: suckmymuscle on April 24, 2012, 04:29:25 PM
Now this was an unbelievable fight from a technical standpoint. The most technical Muay Thai striker vs the most technical Karate striker in MMA. Great elusiveness, foot and head movement and counter-striking by both.

Shogun just destroys guys with those leg kicks. They leave the cage crippled. He also has a very interesting striking style: he waits for his opponent to strike and then he moves forward toward the opponent, and uses the guard opening that his opponent opened when he threw the punch to hit him even if it means getting hit himself. He basically eats his oponent punch in his Muay Thai guard to hit him. Incredible.

Shogun was robbed in this fight. He clearly won rounds 1, 2, 4 and 5. Round 3 could have gone either way as Machida put in some great combinations.

Yeah dude, great fight.
I think Shogun studied Machida's style intensely though.
Usually he just comes out aggressively, but when he fought Machida, he actually used his counter-stiking/Shotokan style against him.
Of course he can't do it as well as Machida, but his athleticism makes up for it. Machida is not exceptionally athletic, just highly skilled, and considering that his dad is old-school Jap, he probably trains fanatically. Either way it's a testament to Machida, when a legend like Shogun has to alter his style to win.

Shogun's robbery was made up for when they robbed Machida in his fight with Rampage.
