Our dog, a bastard dog-of-Bordeaux, is old and I think she won't make 2013. Makes me sad, cause she's been terrific.
After a while, I want another dog.
Any suggestions about which breed....?

New foundland : a gentle giant , can weigh over 90 kg :)

The best dog out there is the tamaskan. Bad ass look, awesome temperament and they are not a dime a dozen breed. Few people have one. I'm saving up to get one
-
Bichon Frise, 15 pounds of fury.

Akitas are great dogs, smart, and will stand by you until they die.

Go cat.

I've been thinking about something like that. I heard these kind of dogs have very few genetic diseases and stuff. How much do you think a pup will cost ??

German Shepherd no contest.
Lol in my "hood" there are lots of pittbulls and american staffords. Generally accompanied by some insecure twink sporting a tanktop and 13 inch pythons. I guess if you aren't strong, you can still buy a strong dog to show other people you're a badass not to be messed with.
;D

But they have brittle spines, don't they?
-
Get one of these bad boys. I don't see a ton of them. You got to have a strong personality they will test you a little bit. Once they know their place excellent dogs. Or Maybe a german shepard or some kind of working dog. Little dogs are useless and boring to me. They're more of a burden and don't really contribute anything. My roomate has this little dog it's more like a cat. You can't can't rough house or play fetch or anything.

Don't worry, most people lack the intellectual capacity to hurt these dogs.

I want a dog that looks like kick-ass, but listens to me 100%.....those are cool. My Bordeaux dog is like that, looks mean but is really nice to everybody (if I decide so.... ;D)

I got 2 chihuahua's.....sisters....
I trained them to go in a litter box when they were babies....a life saver in January when its minus whatever.
They're fearless.....good watch dogs...of course they would get destroyed by most breeds but they won't back down.
I've had some danes in the past but big dogs cost a lot to feed and they dog holes you could fall into.
Good luck Dutch

Go to the pound or adoption center close to home. You can find a GREAT dog there and you'll save a life.
-
If a Bordeaux was a good fit than an English Mastiff would be also.
I'm sure after a Bordeaux you're no stranger to shaking head = flying drool...

Had a throwback boxer that use to do that. I would find snot as high as the ceiling unbelievable. He slobbered and blew snot like crazy.

bordeauxs are awesome, but I'd suggest a Rottie.
All the benefits of a DDB and a big thick neck + great big head but not that much drool

that looks like a presa canario...? I would personally look into a Cane Corso/Italian mastiff. They have similar attitude as the bordeauxs. I have 2 Corso's, and to me they are unmatched. They provide excellent home protection if you want that, but can be so god damn affectionate it's rediculous. I'm pretty sure they would do ANYTHING for their owners. Also, my boy who is 7months and 110lbs was THE BEST pup i have ever seen, full attention to me, no chewing, biting, or acting like a fuckin wing nut. was very easy to piss train, anf they arent barkers, just game winners. the cons- they're big, they slobber, stubborn as hell when they want to be, and like to play ROUGH. so other peoples dogs dont like to wrestle. They get a lot of looks in public, but scare just as many people by looking at them. that's my 2 cents. I wont be switching breeds, thats forsure. ;D

Black or Chocolate lab. I have had each and they are incredible loyal, loving dogs. I am waiting until I retire before getting another dog after I lost my chocolate lab. I want to be home to spend time with it and train it properly.

The Schnauzer is a fucking bad ass though! Looks kind of formal with his nice hair cut and shape but he will go to war and die for his owner.
They use Giant Schnauzers for Police Dogs, because they're fucking genius, tough animals.

Some small dogs are awesome - Like Jack Russles - I never had one, but my buddy had one and he took him hunting rabbits in the irish country side, they are super smart and stong willed.
Since the grass was too tall for him to see the rabbit he would lift him up and show him were the rabbit was, the dog would be real still until he spot the rabbit you would littlerally just drop him and he would go off like a rocket.
Jack Russels are awesome!!

my wife had a Schnauzer - mini Schnauzer, her name was Britta :) she had to leave the dog in latvia when she came over to Ireland - broke her heart, she always wanted a dog so bad when she was a girl when she finally got one she was so happy.
Britta got amazing old as well I think overal 15 years or so, at the end my mother in law who's a nurse put her to sleep at home on the couch and she went easy, I held her head while she gave her the injection - she just complained for a second but it was over real fast - real sad otherwise.
I burried her later in the forrest (same forrest were they shot like a million or so jews but thats beside the point) and the grave is still there.
Schauzers are AWESOME - rat hunting dogs, my wife told me once when she went to the country side to visit her grand dad and Britta would go around the neighborhood with Moppa who was a big mix and the dog of her grand dad - one day they found a rat and moppa tried to kill the rat but he didn't know how, she had the rat killed in a second, bit her in the back and was so proud!!! :D
Awesome dogs

Which breed of dog suits you best has everything to do with your circumstances. Do you have a big yard or just a little patio? Will the dog be an indoor dog or an outdoor one? Do you like to excercise the dog by taking it on walks frequently? Do you have children? And there are a raft of other circumstances that affect which breed of dog is best for you.
All my life, I have had dogs. Being as how I am old now, I've had quite a few dogs of various sizes and breeds. I can't say I ever had a bad dog. Presently, I have two dogs. One is a Rat Terrier and the other is a Labradore Retriver and Irish Wolfhound mix. Despite their size difference, they get along really well.

How old is he? Is he neutered? Not that it matters, but a basic obedience class would be a good place to start (often offered at the humane society). Even if you're happy with how your "training" is going, it's good for socialization and the trainer can offer tips on your dog's behavior. He needs to learn how to properly walk with distractions (other dogs, bikers, skateboards, kids, etc.). He needs to learn walking on a leash is a different type of "play"/exercise than chasing a fresbie off leash. Do not try to "socialize" an un-socialized dog at a dog park. It will just stress you out (and your "energy" will transfer to the dog) and could have dire consequences for him or another dog.
What's his name?
-
Olde english bulldogge. Same as an english except the breed was started over by a geneticist that lamented their health problems (eyes, breathing, lack of stamina). He made them to be like the victorian era bulldogs that had a more athleticism. Modern enhlish billdogs have a high amount of pug in their breeding or something like that. These dogs are cool as fuck. Regular english bulldogs are cool as fuck as well.all personality. Olde english are a little taller. I want to get an olde english and an english and name them arnold and franco.
Awesome dogs.

No, and thats great. I have a medium size poodle and I cut his fur real short all over. He doesn't even look like a poodle. Very athletic! I run with him and have actually run 18 kilometers at about 13 km/h average with him. No problems, and as the dog is friendly, cute and non-threatening, the ladies live him ;-).

This is my poodle. I nice way of showing how secure I am with regard to my own masculinity ;-)... (or at least I cling to that illusion)
No, seriously, I got the poodle to avoid having a shedding dog and I was highly sceptical. But the dog is great- the only negative thing is that he has a very strong watchdog instinct. He does not bark much, but when there is someone around the house he goes crazy. We don't need an alarm. ;-)

I'm not complaining i have an awesome son - maybe when I finally buy a house I get a dog for the moment we are nor here nor there it wouldn't be too good to have a dog.
I will say that our dogs are pretty spoiled. Danny, the big black dog is actually my daughter's dog. However, he has always lived at our house. When my daughter moved to Texas with her husband and son, she was advised not to take the dog because there is a huge heartworm problem in Texas. Lucy, the little dog has lived with us since I bought her as a puppy when she was 8 weeks old. These two pups are practically attached at the hip, so to speak. I think you can tell that from the photo of them.
These days, owning a dog can be an expensive proposition. An average visit to the vet for their annual checkup, any shots they need and a toenail clip generally runs around $100 or more each. Dog food can be expensive. Our dogs have a bunch of stuffed toys with squeakers in a basket in the dining room. As I look around the dining room and living room they've typically scatter all their toys. I haven't yet figured out how to get them to pick up after themselves.

Irish Wolfhound.

My cousin has a Jack Russell. Very smart and friendly dog. Barks a lot though and never tires out. They seem to get leg problems quite early in life.
Again I recommend husky, but only if you have room. A REAL dog is not a toy they need attention and care.
There is no dog friendlier than the Siberian Husky. 2 of mine were part wolf as well.
Huskies don't bark at all, but some howl at ambulance sirens - one of mine did.
Huskies make the worst guard dogs. They will roll over for a belly rub from strangers.
Huskies are very friendly and welcoming to other dogs.
Huskies need a lot of exercise, but once they are worn out they like nothing better than lounging with you.
Very loyal dogs.

My cousin has a Jack Russell. Very smart and friendly dog. Barks a lot though and never tires out. They seem to get leg problems quite early in life.
Again I recommend husky, but only if you have room. A REAL dog is not a toy they need attention and care.

not my favorite dog either. It's nice, but I prefer big dogs.
Other great dogs are Malamutes, similar to a Husky.
German Shepard's.
Labs.

LOL!
Nothing wrong with being generic. Lab's are a fantastic dog, a reason why they are popular. For a big dog they have a good life span. My friend's is 16 right now.
Very loyal and friendly dog. My friend adopted his.

Mixed breeds, mixed breeds, mixed breeds... anyone who deals with dogs or horses will tell you mixed breeds are hardier, have better attitudes, and are less screwed in the head than pure breds.
Be sure ot socialize it well if you get a puppy...handle it at every opportunity...having a child in the family helps in this respect as they will carry it around like a human baby...dogs initially raised this way will not be fucked in the head.

He's three years old and his name is "Buddy".

Im from Annapolis and growing up, everybody who owned a boat, seemingly had owned a lab. Even my parents had a lab. As a child, I was bit by a chocolate lab.
Now, Chesapeake Bay Retrievers are cool, with the curly hair and webbed feet. A relative of mine had one.
Cocker Spaniels are demented dogs...I've wanted a miniature Bull terrier.

It sure seems like everyone has their favorite breed of dog. As I mentioned before, since I was a baby, we always had dogs. If I went a month sometime in my life when I didn't have a dog, I'd be very surprised. Although I don't personally know how good or bad each and every breed of dog is, I've had a lot of experience with a lot of different dogs. In my opinion, how well behaved a dog is depends on how good a dog's owner is. If you spend a lot of time with your dog and train it well it will reward you with absolute loyalty and unconditional love.

Newfs and Goldens the best dogs ever.

The Australian Cattle Dog, blue coat, has always been my favorite dog. Smart, active, loyal, and easy to train. Very rare to see them...atleast on Long Island by me... atleast check out the breed online.
