no way he is the greatest, not even top 20. I always got the feeling that he is playing sloppy, missing the attack peaks. You can compare him to Gilbert, as example of ideal accuracy, if you got ears, you'll hear it.

Lynch is a unique and talented player, no doubt. One of his era's best. But again, how can any one musician be "the best"?

Is there a way to quantify this?

Is there a way to quantify this?

To paraphrase A.J. Liebling: no more virtuosic guitarist is as lyrical, and no more lyrical guitarist is as virtuosic.

Terrific. Thanks. But ...

There is no way to quantify one as being "the best".

Once guitarists reach the rank of God, there is no "best", just "different".

The only rank above "God" is "Legend", and you can only reach "Legend" once you die, notable exceptions being EVH and Clapton.

For Example -
Mamlsteen = Neo-classical god
Wylde = Southern Metal god
Clapton = Classic Rock/Blues god/Legend
SRV = Blues god/Legend

etc, etc, etc

Lynch is a bodybuilder too, so that makes him super cool.

But greatest metal guitarist he is not.

More like this - too many to chose from.
e.g.: I like the guitarist Gordon(Exploited) because his stuff is a treat - dense and efficient.

Malmsteen can sure play the guitar, but he's not exactly god's gift to songwriting. His first album was excellent but after that...

Therefore, he's not greatest heavy metal guitarist.

If I had to say who can both play the guitar and write a mean tune...

Glenn Tipton/K.K Downing

Kerry King/Jeff Hanneman

Dave Mustaine

Trey Azagthoth

Chuck Schuldiner

Oh for fuck's sake son, don't start playing semantics with me... Lynch lifted weights to modify his physique in the past = bodybuilding. I didn't say he competed in the New York Pro.

Our definitions differ....google "bodybuilding images"....good luck finding one that matches yours...enjoy your day

Bodybuilding is using resistance training (and whatever else) in order to cause maximum muscle hypertrophy of all muscle groups/bodyparts; may or may not be for the purpose of competition.

ray's definition is better... by yours i guess frank zane isn't a bodybuilder, nor anyone who ever held back and stopped shy of 10g/week anabolics, as that wouldn't really be the pursuit of "maximum" muscle hypertrophy?

Im assuming thats your rig?
I sold off all my gear, thinking of getting a 5150 or 6505 for my amp when I finish school, but I always found them a little... muddy I guess, for my playing style. My last amp was a VHT pitbull, which had excellent clarity even at ridiculous gain levels.

I ran a Maxon 808 overdrive with the gain turned down and the level turned up quite a bit, with a Jackson RR1 w/EMG's (81 and 85), in the pitbull with a Marshall vintage celestion loaded cab.

One of them, yeah. I own a whack of guitars, amps and effects. My scratch track here was recorded with my POD direct into the pc. Actually used my PRS instead of the Mustaine V too..lol. I modded my 5150 ii and run through the usual eq/tube screamer/compression combo when I use it.

Buddy of mine just picked up a Hughes & Kettner that just kills.

Ah, I never really used an EQ/TS/Compressor together... Ive used a comp before when I was running my rack setup... towards the end of my gigging days I just used the TS in front. Im assuming the compressor/eq used with the TS gives you that more balanced, flat tone across range than running just the TS alone?

Absolutely. The eq gives you a lot of control over your sound as well. These I run into the front end and then I run all my other coloring effects through the loop.

I dont care if you like my definition or not....but everyone who touches a weight, with the hope of putting on some muscle is not a bodybuilder. Just because I touch a basketball, with the hope of putting the ball in the basket, does not make me a basketball player.

Would anyone consider a person who goes to the gym 3 days a week and only trains chest and arms a bodybuilder? I don't.

Trying to be a bodybuilder and being a bodybuilder are 2 different things. If you have to tell someone you are a bodybuilder....you arent one.

Have a great day! Rock & Roll!!!

Yes they are, especially if they manage to build some muscle and build up their bodyparts.
