One of the genuine all time greats and a personal inspiration for me. I have met him and he is a gentleman. Intelligent, hard working and both he and his wife Laree are just great.
We look a lot alike but his bone structure was much larger than my own, still I could not have been more inspired to train. He is nearing 71, still trains hard and lives well. My children have autographed photos of him, as do I. Dave is now Christian, he was kind enough to include a verse fromt the Bible on the photographs.
He is a good man.

If you look at weider mags in the 60s, draper was the most featured guy, in articles, pics and ads
Also lots of draper and arnold pics later. Perhaps joe weiders way of doing the transition from one poster boy to another

He was a hard-drinker and heavy marijuana smoker for a long time, so I'd say he looks pretty fucking good for his age.
It looks like he's getting those old-man triceps, though, where the muscle bellies seem to shorten and move ever-farther from the elbow as the years go by.

Joe is a true jew, he helps people because it's good for his business, has not much to do with genetics. Guys like Robby Robinson & Serge Nubret never got the publicity that they deserved.

Anyone know what the big issue is between his triceps and his elbows?
I know his triceps have been distancing themselves from his elbows for the last few decades but I never heard the reason for the breakup.
It is pretty much a factor of age. Supposedly the tricep should make up 2/3 of our upper arm developoment and when young it can come close but as we age it seems to be pretty much a fact of life that triceps don't get much use in the real world, ergo the atrophy (even when we train them) in comparison to our biceps.
Look at Coleman's recent arm shots and his triceps are down more than one would think at his age and even his biceps are getting "old". Of course when one takes into account his horrendous drug regimen over the years that seems to be an even greater factor in his on going dinkification (less dope, smaller Coleman).
This loss of tricep mass does not affect to the same degree but it does happen. The Oak has it as well. Like my mom once told me about aging - Why they call them the "golden years" is beyond me. It ought to be called the "rusted years".

They used a lot less AAS back then and actually took time off. Off season was really that. They were off the juice. Plus, they didn't have the literal buffet of crud avilable today which I think factors into their relative longevity as well as the healthier look the physiques of what is now termed "the golden age
of bodybuilding". For me that time ended in the mid to late 80s and started in the mid 40s.
Dave is now in his 70s and still looking very good. Given his age, he is looking great.
Draper's bone structure leans toward the heavy side. I've met him when we were both younger and can attest to his wrists being much larger than mine and his hands were very large as well. His grip strength in the old days was phenomenol. Phil Heath on the other hand is nothing less than a pharmacy with legs. Without drugs he would a nobody. With drugs he is a somebody but only in the wacky world of today's bodybuilding. That is pretty much true of all of today's "champions" as what passes for bodybuilding today is pretty much a niche for nutjobs.
