Title: Body Weight or Size Versus Amounted of Weight Lifted

Help me settle an argument with a co-worker---How does this relate exactly? With regular training--what determines the amount you can lift for 6 reps --say for chest press ---is more your weight or just muscle size? How different is that for a man versus woman?


Another question---
Right now I weigh 155 and have a solid but thin build---I am working hard and am still making good strength gains----based on above reply---what dumbell weight can I expect to press flat bench before I really plateau?

Without getting into a scientific discussion about muscle fiber types, cross-sectional size, etc., larger size and higher bodyweight do not necessarily correlate to more strength.  It's possible to gain size without much strength gain, just as you can gain strength without size gains.  What is the exact argument you're having?

As for what you can press before you plateau, that depends on a multitude of things.  Your training focus, diet, etc. all play a role.  If you're pressing 115 lbs right now no one will be able to give you a definitive answer as to what exact weight you'll plateau at.  For some it takes only a few weeks to plateau, others it may take months.
