Hitler is a good choice, the rest are meh. Especially Obama.
-
Hard to do a top five, but Hitler and Osman make the top ten. Well, Osman and his sons and grandson probably count as one, but did start a huge empire. I'd take Washington off the top five though.

What? the general that won America's independence, and was America's first president. You would leave that pedigree off of the list?

It's not about kill count, it's about changing the world as we know it, hitler single handedly change the conciousness of western civilization as we know it. Hard to think of others that sit in that lime light.

hiding in a bunker....come on, bunker was Hitler`s HQ, Hitler was many times asked to leave Berlin when He know that soviets are closer and closer, He REJECTED all offers and stayed in Berlin. Coward would run away, but Hitler stayed till the end, When were soviets few hundreds meters from bunker he commited suicide and ordered his body to be burned.
-
What about Mussolini??
Scumbag.
Hitler in his younger years(WW1) was a man on a mission as he would take huge risks to get the job done.
He often saved/helped fellow soldiers who had family in accomplishing quasi suicide missions.
Compare that to a Mussolini who fled to Switzerland to escape military service :D

True, in fact he is the most known human to ever walk the face of the planet. so here is my 5 in terms of how many people have recognize their existence. In other words popularity and most known throughout humanity
Jesus------------------------------By a huge margin
Julius Caesar --------------------The Birth of the Roman Empire
Budda, prince Siddhartha-------1 third of the world is Asian
Muhammad-----------------------Nearly a billion Muslims
Alexander the great-------------His name spread through Africa, Europe and
Asia
These are the 5 that have made the most profound statement through all of history, other popular figures;
Hitler
Genghis Khan
Galileo
Napoleon
Plato
Shakespeare
Hercules, some believe he was a real man (don't know)
King Solomon
-
Johnny Falcon and "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan are 1-2 but I'm not sure what order.

It's pretty interesting to note how skewed people's view of modern european history is. The fact that a majority in this thread put Hitler above Stalin says a lot.

They're important in many different ways, but Stalin was and continues to be a very important and terrifying figure in a large part of Europe. Hitler's influence ended in the bunker he shot himself in. In the bigger picture, the Nazi's played a smaller role compared to what the Soviet Union/Stalin did.
Still to this day if you want to understand Russia and eastern europe in general, you need to understand Stalinism and how it affected everyone involved.

I read 'Rise and Fall of the Third Reich' not too long ago. I highly recommend it. Hitler, in his politics and day to day dealings was a ruthless, badass thug. Think of the most badass movie Godfather/Mob Boss you've ever seen and then mulitply it by 20. His downfall was that he started to believe his own press, got cocky, and then refused to listen to anyone based on his track record of early successes.

If you put Jesus then you need to put constatine. Without him, Christianity would have been trumped by paganism.
-
you can say what you want about hitler but it requires some skills to do what he has done.
his name is mentioned somewhere in media at least once a day, and thats even if you watch minimal amounts of TV.
-
If you put Jesus then you need to put constatine. Without him, Christianity would have been trumped by paganism.
Actually the opposite is true, he stopped the growth of Christianity and he slowed down it's popularity. The growth has nothing to do with political acceptance.
For every Christian that is killed, 1000 followers are born, this is the reality of being a martyr. Christians where being martyred by the thousands. By the time it was accepted by Constantine there was no stopping it's growth, it had spread beyond the Roman Empire.
The fact that he stopped Christians from being martyred, he actually slowed down the growth of Christianity.
