Haney's torso outdistanced his arms...not by much, but he needed to "stimulate" his arms more.

If you looked at him with his arms outstretched, his chest, delts all overpowered his arms. Making them look small. He had "big" arms no doubt, but in certain poses he looked a guy who was all torso with middleweight arms.

You'd have too go way back to the early 1970s to find another O with that sort of Mass, Taper, and Waist size Oliva in those years would of been in the 28-30inch waist range @ 235-240lbs

Not quite undefeated. Samir Bannout beat him in 1983. That makes him 8 of 9 at the Olympia, the second-greatest winning percentage of all time, behind Larry Scott (2 for 2).
But, he was indeed the "Awesome One". A lot of pros feel he hadn't been given his due, because the publishers can't get Arnold off the brain. King Kamali said, at the 2004 Olympia they did a video of all the Olympia winners. While Arnold got the largest applause from the audience, Haney got most applause from the BODYBUILDERS.

I think he "looked" better than Ronnie, if he had Ronnie's arms, Haney would be the best Mr. O of all time, bar none.
His chest was huge, wide lats, small waist, good legs, and good calves.

Haneys structure was his strength, Ronnie had him for mass, but for mass with class Haney gets the nod, both him and Sergio weregenetically superior to Ronnie structure wise.

Having said that i get the feeling that Dorian and Ronnie pushed the boundaries with their health far more than Lee ever did, who knows what he might have looked like had he had a touch of the downs and didn't limit himself.

Yep. Although Arnie and Mike had bigger looking arms, you've got to think of the weight Haney was carrying in relation to his arms, and the fact he was quite lanky looking, this will all make the arms appear smaller. Oh and I believe Mike said his were 18 and 3/4's (which would sound right at 215 lbs as mine are around that at 225lbs.) ;D

Yep. It's also about limb length also. I've got similar sized arms to my training partner but mine look larger because he's got gorilla arms.

Since the mid 70's i have always been a huge Arnold fan, no other bodybuilder had what he had for a total package. Amazing build huge and ripped and his drive likability and charisma where and still have been unequaled or matched. He was never defeated as Mr o and it was widely speculated that had he wanted he could have held every title from 1970 to near 1984..................th e dawn of Lee Haney.
Lee Haney in my opinion had probably the most flawless build of any Mr O before or since. When he ruled he epitomized the height of bodybuilding to the score of how far one could go without looking like a blob of shit like so many since him. Every muscle group of Haneys seemed to be cut from granite, he had the mass and yet still cut to shreds. Although Arnold to me is still the greatest in terms of overall accomplishments and what he has done for the sport like non other, Lee had the better build.

Not only tren but the man loved halotesten for long periods and anadrol. most people use anadol just to jumpstart a cycle. Haney used anadrol 6months out of the year,and tren almost all year

How do you know what he took for how long? Did he or his dealer tell you this?

I have the 1990 Olympia recorded from TV and all I can say is Haney was completely off that year. He looked like he was competing in the off-season. When he hits the rear double biceps pose during the posing round the commentator asks Frank Zane if he can see some fat in Haney's back and replies there is a little looseness in the lower back. Both Frank Zane and the commentator sound surprised when Haney is announced the winner. Zane said he thought it was Lee Labrada's year and thought he should've been the winner.

No shit, that was Lee's year, he was the only one who brought it all together. But all of the modern O's have had gifts. So it's nothing unusual.

Neither did Yates, Schwarzenegger, Scott, or Columbu (and, if you want to split hairs, Dickerson). But, I don't think you'd quite put them, at least not Scott or Columbu, in the same category. And Scott never lost at an Olympia, period.

when he told haney he did for a living, Lee's "eyes lit up like a kid in a candy shop" quote unquote the vet
also the vet stumbled in on Lee injecting steroids into his biceps in the change rooms post work out
Lee was also saying " i needed to bring up mydamn arms" so he saw them as a weak point

Why are today's pros such garbage?
1. Simply a lack of prime specimens in the gene pool (ala Haney, Arnold, etc.)?
2. Laziness ... don't want to train as hard and rely too much on drugs?
Regardless, shouldn't we still see a few stand out pros who look like guys in the past?

A little revisionist history here?
Yates came along and Haney beat him, straight up. He didn't step aside for anything. The only thing left for him to accomplish was to break Arnold's record. Once he did that, there was nothing else left.

I liked haney, and would've loved to see labrada take it
But, only guys in shape were shawn and christian. Since christian had a very poor lower body, and ray looked fantastic, that was shawn rays year.
Plus benfatto looked much better than a very off gaspari, yet placed behind him

yeah ray or labrada 90....88 ray 1st mr 13th,,,benfatto was amateur late 80's a more bulkier look then seen 90 and on mid ninties he really brought that classic benfatto look around he was much fuller looking as amateur his 1st mro was 90.after 90 some defected to wbf..

Thanks nj, yeah i'm getting my years mixed up. There were a few guys who didn't get their dues. Clairmonte looked insane as an amateur, he lost a bit of sharpness after he went pro. Pastel was another one, can't think of many faults with his build. Francis looked really good as an amateur in the 87 universe.

Benfatto looked very good, but nowhere near as great as 90 in 80s, but 91 he came 7th and that year he was fantastic building up to the olympia, just missed his peak, bigger and better than ever
But haney was haney and time ran out for smaller guys post 1990, anyone under. 220 stood no chance,

benfatto was amateur late 80's a more bulkier look then seen 90 and on mid ninties he really brought that classic benfatto look around he was much fuller looking as amateur his 1st mro was 90

1990 was the drug tested Mr. O and Haney trailed Labrada going into the posing round and still won. Mike Christian actually looked the hardest, fullest onstage, almost like he circumvented testing. It was close, but Haney edged Labrada, even though he was down about 20 lbs from his normal competition weight. Both looked a little soft.
In 91, testing was removed and Haney crushed Labrada. In 91, Haney's back was absurd.

Haney was at his all time best in 1991 but I agree there's no way he could've beaten Yates a year later. Some people feel that Yates should've beaten Haney in 1991. I personally think it could've gone either way especially now when I watch the video of the show. Haney has the look of defeat on his face at the end.
i was there it was close but Haney just edged Yates (and all here know im a Yates fan).

Don't know 1988, but 87 at World Champs he was a middleweight, so 176 or under, looked very similar
1990 he was 172
1991 he was 187

lee's back condition in the 80s and early 90s never reached dorian's back hardness at its best so it's difficult to imagine haney was going to present a bigger and better version if he kept competeing in dorian's era.. i think the extra weigh was going to take more from his condition.. even in 91 when lee's back was better than dorian's still dorian's was harder..

also haney's very best was in 1991 and dorian's best was in 1993 so we are not talking about differnt times,.. only 2 years!!.. what superior drugs appered in these 2 years!!!.. and dorian of 93 could esily beat haney of 91..
