Title: Final Presidential Debate thread
Post by: Fury on October 22, 2012, 06:07:32 PM
Someone finally admitted that Mali is an Al-Qaeda run state. Props to Romney for having the balls to do that.

Al Qaeda and its affiliated groups are resurgent and now control more territory than at any point in their history.

Smacking the shit out of him? Romney has done a good job showing how Obama's foreign policy has crumbled and how Al Qaeda is on the rise. Not much more needs to be said.

Obama has yet to lay out his agenda or explain why the Middle East is worse off now than before he took office.

Nope. Too bad Obama has us up to our neck in it already, with the CIA/Spec Forces already facilitating arms shipments from the Sunni states, most of which are ending up in the arms of jihadists.

Or do you think Saudi Arabia and Qatar are moving those weapons by themselves?  ::)

Obama just following the reagan model of arming bad guys to defeat badder guys.   Bush did it by arming bad guys in afghanistan, or just bribing them.   It's how shit works.  Clinton didn't start any wars, and was viewed as a foreign policy failure.

Romney will be at war with Iran by fall 2013.  You KNOW this man.

Actually, that would be Hezbollah but you go ahead and fawn over it. Until 9/11, Hezbollah had been responsible for more American deaths than any other Islamist group/terrorist network. And after 9/11, Gadhafi became a pseudo-American ally, helping to fight AQ in Libya.

I started with the game and I'd have stuck with it if Detroit didn't put up 24 yards in the 1st quarter. I also don't want to jinx my fantasy team as I started 5.9 points ahead with only Pettigrew to go on his team.

I've been watching the game more than the debate since about 9:45.

Obama "won" the second debate. But he didn't get JACK out of it, in terms of the polls. Romney won the first one, shot up in the polls, and has been riding high, ever since then...to the point where certain states that Obama should have locked up are now in play.

As usual, Obama ran his mouth but didn't say very much. His job apparently was to interrupt Romney at nearly every turn, before he could get two words from his lips.

53-42 and 48-40. Not likely anywhere near enough to reverse Romney's lead. Maybe enough to stop it from growing larger but you made the same asinine claims after the last one (where the poll results were even WIDER).

In short, couldn't care less. LOL at you making the same claims again.

he's leading by 11, 8, and 30 points.   That's a wash?   lol!

Yep, it's a wash!

One, it's on foreign policy, a distance second or third to the economy, in terms of the basis of this election.

Two, based on the very same tweets you references, this debate has 38% of voters more likely to pick Romney, 37% less likely, and 30% no difference. And on foreign policy the same PPP poll has them trusting Romney 47%. When you're a sitting president, this late in the game and the challenger is that close, that is PATHETIC.

Third, snap polls tend to tighten up within 24 hours. Take the VP debate. One snap poll had Ryan up by 4 or 5. A day later, it was tied.

Four, with Obama having to play catch-up and having NO BOUNCE from his "win" in debate two, at best Obama can break even. But again, foreign policy isn't priority one; however, the more data we get about Benghazi, the more it HURTS OBAMA (not Romney).

But don't take my word for it.

Economy Is Dominant Issue for Americans as Election Nears

PRINCETON, NJ -- The "economy in general" ranks No. 1 on Gallup's Most Important Problem list in October, with 37% of Americans saying it is the top issue facing the country. This is up from 29% in September and exceeds unemployment, in second place at 26%. Mentions of unemployment are down this month from 32% in September, likely reflecting the recent decline in the government's jobless rate to 7.8%. Democrats, independents, and Republicans all became more likely to name the economy as the nation's top problem in October; however, the increase was sharpest among Republicans, rising 14 percentage points, from 30% to 44%. That contrasts with a five-point increase among independents (from 32% to 37%) and a seven-point increase among Democrats (from 26% to 33%).

The federal budget deficit currently ranks third on Gallup's Most Important Problem list, at 12%, followed by dissatisfaction with government at 9%, healthcare at 7%, and "lack of money" at 5%. No other issue is named by as much as 5% of Americans.

http://www.gallup.com/poll/158267/economy-dominant-issue-americans-election-nears.aspx

BTW, on this list of items, foreign policy is less than 10%, when you combine "War in Afghanistan/Iraq" (3%), "Foreign Aid/Focus Overseas" (4%), and "National Security" (2%).

Giving too much deference to an incumbent president. OR, they're pumping up that stat to cash their chips on a Romney win (sort of like hyping up a boxer to win then paying that boxer to throw the fight).

Sure I can. Obama, as usual, interrupted Romney before he could get two syllables out of his mouth.

And, much like his last "win", it will do almost NOTHING to reverse Obama's slide (Romney over 50% in Gallup before and after that debate; Romney now ahead of Obama on RCP's electoral map, with several states still toss-up and Obama barely up two in Rasmussen's EC map).

When you get smoked in the debate, on THE MOST IMPORTANT ISSUE OF THE ELECTION, merely showing up with a pulse on debates, regarding much lesser topics, is little more than the consolation toaster.

1)  Obama and Romney both stress that they will work with Muslims/Arabs to reduce anger towards the US and extremist activity.

2)  Obama and Romney both insist they will blindly stand by Israel as their strongest ally.

How come no one comments on the fact that #2 is in direct conflict with #1, because US support for Israel is probalby the single most significant item which fuels anger towards the US in the middle east?

Can't have it both ways, can't have your cake and eat it too.  The cost of #2 is a failure to achieve #1.

Economy is the DOMINANT ISSUE! Case closed.

Getting smoked in that debate, while "winning" a debate on a far-less important topic, means Obama's victory is as hollow as a beach ball, especially when you look at the internals.

If that's the case after this one, it would mean that Romney did in ONE DEBATE, what Obama and Biden couldn't do in THREE: Build a huge wave of momentum that could carry all the way to victory on Nov. 6.

Romney's mistake is that he has a habbit of challenging the president on a question in a way that requires an immediate response from Obama; where he turns to him and directly challenges him, that's not good because he's instantly giving away his time for Obama to answer and Obama hasn't missed a beat on that so far.  Romney made this mistake in the last debate and you can see Obama is running with it in this debate.  Romney should have been coached on this as a mistake from his last debate.

The incumbent usually has the advantage in FP debates.

The challenger just needs to score a few points, stay out of any traps/landmines, avoid semantical arguments.

I believe Mitt Romney did those things, or at least most of those things, last night.

The spin will be rocking and rolling these last two weeks so it should be a fun and eye-rolling ride to Nov. 6th.

This debate also reinforced my total hatred of how these "Debates" are run in that they aren't actual debates. Make them do 4 real debates with none of the dumb "Town Hall" nonsense, no sitting at tables and no bad, biased moderators. Let them actually have debate.

Barack Obama RIPPED By Bayonet Co. "We're Still Relevant!!!"
tmz.com ^ | 10/23/12

Posted on Tuesday, October 23, 2012 11:46:22 AM by Justaham

President Barack Obama has offended the bayonet community ... TMZ has learned.

TMZ spoke with multiple people in the bayonet industry who tell us they were shocked and even offended when Obama brought up the weapon during last night's debate.

FYI -- Obama was going after Romney when he said, "You mentioned the Navy, for example, and that we have fewer ships than we did in 1916. Well, Governor, we also have fewer horses and bayonets, because the nature of our military's changed."

According to the official U.S. Marine Corps website, every Marine is STILL required to complete a bayonet training program ... because "the weapon becomes just as effective [as a rifle] in close combat situations."

We spoke with Dan Riker from Bayonet Inc. -- a leading military surplus outlet that specializes in bayonets -- who tells us he believes Obama's comment was "ignorant ... because our soldiers still use bayonets."

He adds, “[Bayonets] are still distributed to the military all the time -- he should get educated on it”

For the record, Riker says he won't be voting for Obama ... "and I didn't vote for him last election either."

Personally, I think world affairs are going to continue to degenerate as long as the world population continues to expand beyond the resources to sustain it. You see this all the time, the more overpopulated an environment or city, the less value we place on human life. Look at the largest cities in India, South America and Asia....or even in the United States. People are killing each other and barely giving it a second thought. Heck, we have even devalued our own lives so that many folks live in a drugged stupor until they succumb to an early death.

Bob Woodward: Obama 'mistaken' on sequester

Bob Woodward says President Barack Obama got some of his facts wrong on sequester at Monday night’s debate.

Woodward’s book, “The Price of Politics,” has been the go-to fact check source for the president’s answer, in which he claimed the idea of using deep, automatic, across-the-board domestic and defense spending cuts to force Congress to address the nation’s burgeoning federal deficit originated from Congress, not from the White House.

“What the president said is not correct,” Woodward told POLITICO Tuesday. “He’s mistaken. And it’s refuted by the people who work for him.”

Woodward, a Washington Post journalist who was a key reporter on the initial coverage of the Watergate scandal, said he stands behind his reporting in the book, which drew upon sources involved in last year’s deficit talks and detailed notes taken in the meetings.

Woodward reports in his book that White House Office of Management Director Jack Lew and Legislative Affairs Director Rob Nabors took the proposal for sequestration to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, and then it was presented to congressional Republicans.

During the debate, however, Obama said the idea originated on Capitol Hill.

“First of all, the sequester is not something that I've proposed. It is something that Congress has proposed,” Obama said, adding his strongest pronouncement to date on its future: “It will not happen.”

Woodward said there’s a possibility the president was unaware of how the idea came about.

“It’s a complicated process — and in fairness to the president — maybe he didn’t know that they were doing this because it’s kind of technical budget jargon,” Woodward said.

“What I wrote — it’s specific date, time, place, participants,” he said. “What I’ve reported is totally accurate. Call Nabors and Lew. Or ask the White House. I mean, they know that’s accurate.”

Still, briefing reporters Tuesday aboard Air Force One, White House press secretary Jay Carney continued to blame sequestration on Congress.

"What the president said last night was a reiteration of what his position has long been," Carney said. “The sequester that was designed and passed by Congress was never meant to become policy, it was never meant to be implemented."

Woodward agreed that sequestration wasn’t intended to actually happen.

“No one thought it would happen. The idea was to design something … that was so onerous that no one would ever let it happen. Of course, it did, because they couldn’t reach agreement,” he said. “They all believed that the supercommittee was going to come up with a $1.2 trillion deficit-reduction plan, so there would be no sequestration. Of course, the supercommittee failed and so the trigger went off, which has all of these very Draconian cuts.”

Thanks!  One less vote for Obama  ;)
It's not like it matters anyway.  There's zero chance the state I'm in votes for anyone but Romney.  My vote matters about as much as 333386's vote, none. ;)
