Any of the Brits on here watch the excellent documentary on BBC 2 the other night called You`ve been Trumped,all about Donald Trump and how he has bullied a few people to sell their houses so he can build a golf course.Its obvious from the film he has the government and the police in his pocket and there are things you see in this film that are truly shocking.You only "own" your own house until someone with enough money pays people in power to take it off you.

The government can literally take your property if they want, and they give you "fair market value". The problem is that they get to decide what fair market value is, and its usually 50% less than what people could sell it for.

Don't know, didn't watch it. But I know this has happened several times, they installed a Navy golf course by my grandparents house, and forced quite a few people off the land. They gave them something like 75,000 for property worth almost 250,000.

And you folks talk about eminent domain as if there is only one appraisal done.
Not true in the least. The municipality gets an appraisal, the homeowner gets an appraisal (using comparable sales, etc.) and then the case goes to a Condemnation Commission. The decision is appealable.

He did the same in NY. Some lady wouldn't sell her house so he surrounded her house with construction machines, trucks etc... and setup the construction site right up against it and started building his skyskraper and eventually forced her out of house.

looks like do underestimated the recession and his funding is dried up.

It's called eminent domain here in America. I deal with it a lot as a civil engineer in transportation. They normally pay you well above market value but state 'fair market value' to protect themselves. They pay ALL of your attorney fees and let you have your attorney of choice if you choose to appeal it. Don't listen to these uneducated dolts in the subject. No agency wants to stay in court and they don't want to spend 10x as much when they can pay you a premium for your property and come out much cheaper.
Concerning whatever Trump did, nothing amazes me though. He is not the government or state agency so he can basically do most of whatever he wants on his personal property if state or federal funds aren't used for the project.

It is disgusting the government and corporations are able to get away with this. You would think there has to be SOME state(my best guess is Texas lol) , that when you own your land people trespass on it at all you have the right to shoot to kill.
A few years back there was a lot of uproar about our government forcing people out of their homes when they were building a "highway" basically through my city.
This is just prove we need LESS government intervention and more protection of individual's rights.

On a side note,seeing as how i`m talking about politicians taking whats yours,3 years ago i had 25 grands worth of shares taken off me by the british goverment.All the shareholders took the case to court to get compensation and when it was settled i had an email to say "you WILL receive compensation,and it will be for the amount of £0.00p".
