Or the death of the Republican Party? Seems like the time is ripe for there to be some serious third option, as the Democrats will never change, but there needs to be another party to keep them in check.

We should start our own Party , Ron Avidan for president.

Yes a getbig party could "do damage".

Wiggs on the ticket would draw all of the pertinent minorities. Throw in a dime piece tranny as VP candidate, and we've got this thing sewn up.

Libertarian and socialist are's needed.
Won't happen though, the people that actually own america won't let it happen.
It's amazing how naive people are to this. Unless you got some folks with some serious dollars, who aren't afraid to loose some powerful friends, there will never be 3rd party politics.

Great idea, split the conservative vote to moderates and tea partiers

Hey man, it may be the sign of the times. Our thought process is not with that of the populous. It seems whether you like it or not, our society is changing.

Republicans just need to get in a time machine and go back to pre 1980 before the time when they let fundies (and much later tea baggers) hijack their party and also before the time when they believed that tax cuts paid for themselves

As I said to Adonis, the Dems didn't go compromise or go back to a time before they left liberals (and much later neo-socialists) hijack their party. They went far left.
Therefore, the call is going to be for the GOP to go far right.

Todays Dems are probably closer to the ideological ground of early 1980 repubs
Saying the dems are too far to the left is just another one of those fairy tales that Repubs like to tell each other

Not even close. Those Dems got sacrificed in 2010 for standing against ObamaCare.

So you believe the centrist dems were in voted out in 2010?

Haha, nice joke. As polling consistently shows, the majority of Americans fall along more moderate lines than most of the Dems in Congress.
If this wasn't the case, then why are Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi, the two leaders of the Dems in Congress, also the most hated members of said Congress (as polling shows)? ::)

Rush just agreed that a moderate is a lib who is ashamed to admit it.

Yeah that makes a lot of sense as usual
The dems are far left yet they were overwhelmingly voted into or back into office by a moderate electorate

Don't let you partisan blinders dictate what you see. The majority of Americans fall along more moderate lines than most of the dopes we have up in Congress. Even when stirred into a partisan frenzy by pundits the fact is that most of us still fall in the somewhere between slightly-left and slighty-right, very often depending on the particular topic that's in question.
If this wasn't the case, then why are Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi, the two leaders of the Dems in Congress, also the most hated members of said Congress (as polling shows)? ::)
There's plenty of reasons why that would be observed, beyond the simple fact that Pelosi and Reid are dumbasses. A big one might be the fact that they are the public face of the Democrats in Congress, and they are the ones most often attacked by pundits, which raises their profile substantially; couple that with the fact that most Americans are unlikely to be able to name more than a handful of members of Congress beyond Reid, Pelosi and Boehner, and it becomes quite evident why the effect you describe might be observed.
Besides with the approval ratings of Congress as low as they are does it really matter? Americans have disdain for anyone up in D.C. right now.
