The Fly... not your typical horror movie. Brilliant. And bloody disgusting.

Great list - I would add night/dawn/day of the dead to it.

That's David Cronenberg for ya. He and George A. Romero have made my life better.

I would agree this is a pretty good list. And your addition is spot on. The Thing is an underrated horror film and one of my favorites. I would also add the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Another fav horror movie thread

The first hellraiser was pretty good then they turned to shit.
-
Quarantine (2008)
-
The Shining.
And no, I don't mean that piece of shit remake Syfy or whatever attempted. I mean the KUBRICK film -- which, incidentally, beat the dog shit out of Stephen King's novel of the same.
No scary movie list should be without The Shining at the very top. "Want some icecream, Doc?" The photography, directing, acting, music -- it's all outstanding.

I thought it was NBC that had remade it. Never saw the original, but I read the book!
Also, 28 Days later!
I'm a pussy when it comes to scary movies!

hard to beat Evil Dead 1 and 2.
Army of Darkness is the third in the trilogy and is awesome, but its more of an action mythical comedy, not really a horror.
Creepshow is awesome too.
-
Martyrs - not for the squeamish, but a great movie nonetheless
Creepshow 2 - 3 mini-movies. Campy, funny, and scary
House on Haunted Hill - yes, the remake
Demons 1 and 2 - great Italian horror.......more of a zombie flick
The Grudge - one of the scariest movies ever
-
Dark Night of the Scarecrow always wiggs me out.

Saw Evil Dead 2 on the big screen last night, and Creepshow at the same theatre a year or so ago.

House of 1000 Corpses was stellar. I've seen so many over the years, it's difficult to remember the best flicks. Friday The 13th 4: Final Chapter, High Tension was cool. The Human Centipede for it's awfulness. The Exorcist of course, Sleepaway Camp, Mother's Day (1980), CHUD are a few that haven't been mentioned.

House of 1000 Corpses was stellar.
There was a sequel to that too... The Devil's rejects!
You know I read an interesting article about the scariest haunted house in the US this halloween which was developed by Rob Zombie.... actually, here is the article with the author's telling what the event was like, fucking creepy as hell!
