Carlin exhibited the narcissistic trait sometimes present in older men approaching death, which is confusing the world's demise with their own. They have an air of finality and say things like, 'the world's going to shit and things will come to a head soon.' Old farts have been said this throughout history, despite the fact that the world will persist without them, pretty much unaffected.
That said, I enjoy all of George's work!
