Tragedies involving children always elicit extreme emotional reactions from people, because "wont somebody PLEASE think of the children!" Children are innocent, yes, but this is really no worse than all the horrors that go one in burkina faso or whatever the fuck. It's just close enough to home for people to flip out about it, not to mention the media plays it up, preying on peoples emotions, for ratings. The whole situation is dumb.

In fact, the founding fathers put in a set of guidelines that were, in effect, a reaction to the times in which they lived. It is rather naive to think that a ruleset can be created that will live through all future cultures. Do you think, for instance, that the current guidelines will be appropriate in 1,000,000 years time?

Figure out what is necessary for hunting, target shooting and for protection.
Then outlaw the assault guns/rifles. How many of these fucking incidents do we need to inflict on ourselves before the majority figures out what the fuck is going on.

I thought is was sociopaths who lacked empathy and any guilt feelings, so I looked it up and you are right, psychopaths lack empathy. As it turns out, sociopaths don't have conscience, but they can be very charming and it is hard to tell who is a sociopath and who isn't unless you are their victim.

the main difference, and i can tell you this from personal experience, is a psychopath is flawless at hiding their intentions and emotions. Sociopaths are easy to pick out, and they have the common inability to mask their intentions because of their emotional immaturity. the psychopath is usually predatory in nature and can be extremely calculated, manipulative, intelligent and dangerous. totally different animal than a mere pathetic sociopath.

i think the common sociopath gets alot more credit than they deserve from what i read, and like i said earlier, it doesn't take long before a socially perceptive person can catch on and see who they are. maybe a day or two, sometimes not even that, really depends how intelligent or desperate they are. im sure you've met your fair share of them too and know what to look for if you've been hanging around gyms long enough. and sure there are different levels of sociopathy, and your mother may not have been an extreme case which most arent.

Well that's fine, but this isn't about the President. He is a political figurehead, people expect the President to address these issues with empathy and he very well could personally feel a lot of empathy for all the folks who lost their loved ones in this horrific situation. Either way, how he feels or appears, changes nothing.
Maybe I am a sociopath. When I went out to the newspaper box to get this morning's edition of the Oregonian, I was slightly annoyed at the headline, which read, "Are they with the angels" because the Oregonian, like all media only wants to make money. They will milk the public sympathy for all they can get from it. I feel bad for the parents and families of those killed, but I am too removed (thank goodness) to let it rule my thoughts. It happened. Nothing is going to bring those people back. It will happen again. Apparently, not much can be done to prevent that. And there is the real tragedy.
