Title: Blood Pressure
Post by: big-bri on December 05, 2005, 08:02:52 PM
I had my BP checked before I started my cycle, it was 120/80. Now, I'm a few weeks in and it's hovering around 140/86-88. Should I be concerned about this? I know increase in BP is normal for Test-E. Are there any measures I can take to keep it down?

Supplementing with potassium and hawthorne berry has gone a long way in keeping my blood pressure in check when using M1T, among other things.

What dosage do you take for the pottasium/Hawthorn?

Like Michael suggested......lower sodium, increase potassium and drink water.

Having BP meds in case does not hurt either.......

BP, the silent killer....Big Bri, you have every right to be concerned.

Test increases the following:

Water retention
LDL levels(bad cholesterol)
Hypertension

All of which increase blood pressure....Many people brush the problem away, and do not heed the warning.....

Eventually, the high BP, namely the Diastolic (bottom number) will cause left ventricle hypertrophy.  This will enlarge the heart and cause problems down the road.

Bro, suck down all the berries and bananas you want.....if it doesn't work, got to war...get a diuretic and/or an ace inhibitor...

Here are some options....(which your doctor should have no problem prescribing.....)

Cozaar-Ace inhibitor-100mg
Hyzaar-Diuretic+ace inhibitor-100/10 mg
Clonidine-good BP med-ace inhibit....

Diuretics-

Demadex(Torsimide)-20mg
(always take with potassium(20MEQ), diuretics strip your body of it)

Diuretics will make you pee for 40 mins straight but you will immediately feel relief.....Water retention is a huge BP rasier, keep it in check and you will keep your BP in check.....

If you have questions, hit me back.....

What dosage do you take for the pottasium/Hawthorn?

I took 4, 90mg potassium tabs throughout each day, along with 3 hawthorne caps, which are dosed around 560mg each.

My blood pressure never reached hypertension levels (which is why I didn't need to take super high amounts of either supplement), but the M1T did raise it significantly, as it had been in the low-normal range prior to M1T.

And of course, I second what Division and O had to say.

Thanks for the advice. Is 86-88 a real high bottom number? Most of the sites I''ve looked at say it's "high-average".

Go to your Dr. and ask for Atacand, a BP med. It's mild , works and won't make you tired. Forget about all this other stuff. Hawthorn Berry does not work. Don't take high BP mildly.

Cozaar-Ace inhibitor-100mg
Hyzaar-Diuretic+ace inhibitor-100/10 mg
Clonidine-good BP med-ace inhibit....

I would recommend either:

Clonidine -  Clonidine is a very therapeutic hypertension agent.  .3MG taken before bedtime will raise endegenous GH levels in the body.  It's also a great sleep aid.  The only drawback to it is the sluggishness that you feel throughout the day, the way it mediates aldosterone means you retain water when you take it, you may get rebound hypertension if you stop taking it.

-or-

Captopril - Captopril is an ACE inhibitor and works very well.  50-100MG ed will work well, it's main benefits are the suppression of adolsterone secretion and the accompanying "diuretic" effects.  You do not bloat on this drug.

I used to use Clonidine, but it made me too sleepy......so now I use Captopril.

Ace inhibs are pretty potent and can be harsh

The most common side effects are cough, elevated blood potassium levels, low blood pressure, dizziness, headache, drowsiness, weakness, abnormal taste (metallic or salty taste), and rash. It may take up to a month for coughing to subside, and if one ACE inhibitor causes cough it is likely that the others will too. The most serious, but rare, side effects of ACE inhibitors are kidney failure, allergic reactions, a decrease in white blood cells, and swelling of tissues (angioedema).

Use Atacand while you are on. It's one of the safest out there, especially since your young and your cycling.

True, but as with all side effects there is always a "worse that can happen."

Keeping hydrated, (1.5 - 2 gallons) of water /day will eliminate many kidney problems....

Do you guys feel that a BP of 140/86 (high-normal) warrants the use of meds?

Anything has the potential to be "harsh".  Not regulating your BP can be "harsh".

I have used Captropril (ACE inhibitor) for over a year now, 50MG ed, and my BP is smooth and clean.  I don't have any sides.  I still have residual Clonidine, but I rarely use it, it puts me to sleep.  I drink about a gallon of water per day, never had any kidney issues.

Why are you pushing "Atacand"?

Yes, Michael.....

Some of use are too deep in the game now, even with clean diets, lugging around so much extra mass will give you hypertension eventually.

I do an hour of cardio after every workout, and yes I drink plent of water.

BP meds, Statin Meds.........it's a part of the game.

Do you guys feel that a BP of 140/86 (high-normal) warrants the use of meds?

I'd still put this in the high normal range, personally.  If you're presently on a cycle, and you are not one of the guys who is essentially "always on," I would think you should be fine.  What I would be more interested in is knowing what it is in between your cycles (which, if I remember bri, are relatively infrequent?).  I don't think meds are necessary for you at this point.  But...check it frequently during the cycle--start to get to know your body and how IT responds to the things that you are doing.

My BP is normally 120/80. My cycles are pretty infrequent. Also, I've started taking potassium.

I just had a doctor's appointment last week to have my HRT treatment evaluated.

One of the preliminary procedures is to have my blood pressure checked.
It is usually 128/80 or thereabouts... this time it was 140/80.
My doctor wasn't too alarmed but did say it was something we want to monitor more closely.  He said it may be due to the hormone (test.cyp.) I am taking, sodium or what he called "white coat" syndrone (being nervous around doctors).

It has nothing to do with size.  Everyone is different.  Genetic factors.

I was concerned about the sides with the ace, but seems that you are doing pretty good on them. My doc recommended it to me. He knows everything I do.
