what would you choose? I think I would pick the 1870's so I could experience the Old West.

Emancipation Proclamation was 1863, so anytime prior to that in the South.

How, exactly, is Obama getting rich off of taxpayer money? Let's assume in addition to being born in Kenya, not attending University and living a secret life as a M2F transsexual, he also pays no taxes and has no living expenses at all. At $400,000 a year for 8 years, he'll make a total of $3,200,000. That's a rather paltry sum when compared to the amount of money he pulled (and is pulling) in from sales of books he's already published, and he's sure to make a whole lot more from the books that are yet to come.

He's not there to get rich.  He's supposed to be justifying the voters' faith and looking after the country.

Did I say I was rich? What I believe I implied is if I had the income I have today in an earlier time period, I'd be rich. That's not the same thing as saying I am rich today.

I am retired. My income is derived from investments I made while working for the last 50 years.

Are liberals the only folks getting money from tax payers? I suspect not. Seems to me both liberals and conservatives may be eligible for various government funded programs and benefits. Many of the states with biggest percentage of people on public assistance are also strongly conservative (Republican).

Before technology would be great imagine how easy it would be to commit crime. Steal rape and pilage with no consequence. If somebody fucked you off you kill them. No dna. no conviction. Easy to change identities. I guess sometimes I just with I could leave my life behind and go live in a forest as said above. I would want to kill some fuckers first though.

So are you saying that Republicans voted for Obama? If that's the case, why didn't he win in those states?

Is it safe to say that you didn't have the misfortune to be born to parents living in the hills of Tennessee?

Quote
The subsidization of phones began under President Clinton, and has continued under Presidents Bush and Obama. Over that time, the usage of cell phones rose and the costs came down. the service in Tennessee was launched three months prior to Obama being elected. And that means the discussion and approval of the extension of the program occurred under President Bush’s watch.

The Bush Phone, anyone?

The free cell phones only go to those who qualify for the program under the exact same eligibility requirements that have been in effect since 1996. An applicant is generally eligible if they are at or below 135-150% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines (depending upon the state in which they live), or if they already participate in one of many public assistance programs such as Medicaid, food stamps, energy assistance, public housing and others.

Nothing about the Lifeline eligibility has changed since President Clinton’s days. Nothing has changed since President Bush’s days.

Do you keep your current brain/memories and just wake up in another era or start over in another timeperiod?

If starting fresh, i'd say sometime in the future, 2050 or 2100.

If keeping the current brain/memories, then Ancient Greece or 20 BC.

The Renaissance-period would also be interesting IF having the current memories.

My eyesight is so poor, I would be dead inside a week if I chose to live in an era that I find both romantic and adventurous in nature.  What I need is a time machine to take me forward so that I can get my eyes fixed properly.  Current methods are not up to that task.

All that aside, I would only go back in time if I could remain aware of history.  I would definitely require a "babelfish" for this as I speak only English.

Queue pedantic "explanation": "Ahh, but you see, the earth rotates and so one "appears" on a different spot: the spot that was under their feet at the time when the earth was there."

Then queue pedantic "objection": "Ahh, but then what happens if you just "appear" inside Mount Everest? And don't you also have to take into account earth's position in the solar system so that you don't appear in the middle of interstellar space?"

Then queue the more pedantic "answer": "Duh! That is dealt with by using the Laforge-Scott compensator! Everyone knows that. You are just showing the depths of your ignorance! In episode 18 of season 4, this is clearly explained by Captain Laforge before he takes the Enterprise through a temporal inversion in an attempt to prevent the Borg Continuum from exterminating humanity by castrating Captain Kirk!"

Again, an "objection": "What? Come on... that's totally not cannon. The events in 'ALFBTSP' have been shown to be non-cannon. Besides, Laforge says that the compensator would require 445 Jibajabs of Exoteron radiation and we know from episode 16 that the warp engines can only produce 440!"

And on and on and on...

To go anywhere backwards in time would suck big time, you think it wouldn't but it would. Imagine a world without internet cell phone, video games. Not a big deal right?

Let's go back further....How about No tv no phones or airplanes? .... even further imagine horse and bugy....

How about sharing the container of water everyone in the village gathers from and only showering once a week. How about mandatory battlefield laws, I mean not mandatory military training, I mean you have to fight in one battle minimum.

How about being forced to watch Public executions; eyes get poked out, ears ripped off, hands and feet cut off, how about watching someone get a poll shoved up their ass till it came out their mouth. how about watching children aged 6-10 get buried alive.

Let's go back even further when you had to hunt your own food and people ate humans just as much as they ate animals.

No thanks, I like it right here just fine. :)

Probably the history channel.  I saw some gruesome stuff when I watched Henry the 8th "The Tudors".  I felt sick in my stomach when he had two men executed, it was so gross and would have been an incredibly painful death.

Brave heart is a good movie. In real though warriors where monsters, 7 footers with behemoth strength. Tactical fighters on the battle field where smaller.

Yes that is what I am saying, these objects these men carried where monstrous and took some serious power to swing. William was a beast 7 footer and probably 400lb. Wow, I would love to go there bro. Did you go there and see it?, very interesting.

I grew up there. Stirling has great History. Stirling Castle too, still the HQ of the Argyll and Southern Highlanders.. although they merged into the "Royal Regiment of Scotland" very sad because i believe they have now only some for ceremonial purposes. Bannockburn is near Stirling another famouse Battle site.

AHAHAH I was thinking the exact same thing as I also wear glasses!

Would have been pointless if Napopleon was charging into enemy positions. He had to command the entire battlefield, make tactical decisions and give orders to his units.

Same with Hitler or any other leader in World War II or any modern war.

Well did you hear what Donny said about his sword, it took two hands to hold it and it was big. the historians have him at slightly over 7 feet. Coat of arms weigh roughly 35 lb on a six footer, many have been found in that region, actually all over the place that weigh 50-80lb and are enormous in sizes, they look like blankets. Axes weighing 100lb are out there as well, spear heads that weigh 10-12lb, it would take a 500lb man to throw something like this effectively.

Tall big men were often bread and different atmospheric pressures of the past allowed larger statures, this is proven in the fossil record, every animal has a bigger version of itself in the past, including insects, simply an atmosphere more rich with oxygen then the one today.

Some of the weapons were also ceremonial, to look intimidating for ceremonies, or on parade or whatever.

People liked to exaggerate, word of mouth was all many could rely on.

I highly doubt the man was 7ft, that's incredibly rare even in our modern era.

Europeans were also smaller due to worse diet etc...not larger.

That`s my point is that our era only produces small statures and the older the era the larger the stature.  One of the Caesars Maximinus Thrax) was officially recorded as 8`6 and this guy was perfectly proportions, didn`t have that giant disease acromegaly or whatever obviously cause he died when he was 65 years old and was killed not dead by natural causes.

He was enormous and could fight in battle. In fact he was an important cammender. The overwhelming sources depicting him where numerous and found in different areas as his stature made him curious among surrounding nations. Are sources accurate and legit?... well Herodotus wrote about him, doesn`t get more trust worthy then that. He was a legit 8 footer. A monster among men and many reports say he faced even taller men in battle a few times, trust me men where taller not shorter.

I have to invoke the getbig bullshit clause on this.  Yes Wallace was 7 ft. tall but he was an anomoly.  Humans are taller today that at any time in history.  If you were to go back to Roman time a guy who was 5'6" would be considered quite tall.  I have a friend who is a civil war buff and has visited many museums in the south.  He tells me the uniforms were so tiny that guys from today wouldn't fit in them.  They were on average a size 32 coat size.  Don't forget that during historical times unless you were born into wealth you were probably lucky to have one meal a day from the time you were born.  Add war into the mix and one of the first things to suffer is the food supply.

I know of Maximinus Thrax, but do not for one second believe that he was over 8 feet. Like I said, people used to exaggerate these personalities to cause fear and terror and this guy was a complete tyrant.

Herodotus also exaggerates, or just writes what he heard from those around him. For instance a million Persians crossing over to invade Greece...? Recent estimates put it at much much lower than that, but of course such exaggerations are just meant to mean 'an immense amount' etc and not necessarily literal.

Archaeological evidence seems to indicate that Europeans were shorter.

That does not prove anything, I can go to the Phillipines and find short people there, one region in that area of Rome during that time period means very little. Funny how the average person thinks that people were shorter back then but the history books tell us different and I studied history at the university level and there are lots of historical evidence pointing to 8 footers all over the place like the Roman Emperor I pointed out above in my post and he did not have acromegly cause he died when he was 65 and was killed, his death was not natural so who knows how long he would have lived.

In one of my history classes in University I had the professor lecture us on `debunking old myths`and 2 of the biggest misconception in history are that people believed people were shorter and he said that was a myth and in ten to 20 years no text book will say that, it was old and out-dated information

.....and 2,... that no one believed the earth was flat, a few idiots came up with that one and it stuck, every nation has always known the earth is round, no one ever thought it was flat, big misconception and he said it was propaganda to make nations sound stupid. I believe him too, how stupid do you have to be to believe the earth was flat, go on a mountain and you will see that it is round, look at the sun, the moon, look at the edge of the horizon, everyone knew it was round.

What about the archaeological evidence then...?

The Dutch used to be the shortest people in Europe till a about 200 hundred years ago, now they're the tallest. This has been attributed to better food.

Also, that's just the opinion of one lecturer.

The archaeological evidence points to lots of tall people, at least the bone structures found., I mean of course you are right if one region is malnourished they might have an entire populace with stunted growth and yes that would be common all over the place, so I don`t doubt that there are villages found with the remains of a bunch of 5 footers.

But lots of findings of 7, 8, 9 and even ten footers all over the place. Oh and BTW if you doubt Thrax `s height well, you do realize that a statue of his actual size head was found and it was f-en-huge.

I think that statue would have been designed to terrify people. There are also gigantic collosus type statues of Augustus, Constantine etc.

I've been a bust of Thrax, I think it was in London, but it looked roughly the same size as the others.

Archaeology, in Italy at least shows the people to not have been tall. Just look at the proportions of the statues..? They look like stocky Italians.

I think my lifespan, and seeing the advent of the internet, is the greatest time period.

Why live in the olden days? You're hungry? Gotta fish. Or catch a rabbit. Or hunt. Or grow crops.

Nowhere to live? Build a house.

Bored?

Sit around and drink potato liquor? Sing? And when you have to piss...go piss in the leaves out back?

Today is the best.

The 1950s.  Doo-Wop.  Hamburger stands.  Elvis.  Buddy Holly.  Chuck Berry.  Groovy girls with their hairs in buns.  Tweed suits.  Pinstripes.  The Brooklyn Dodgers.  Blacks kept in the ghetto and nary a Hispanic in sight  :P.  Massive 20+ foot Lincoln Continentals with suicide doors.  Roller skates.

The 1950s has always seemed like an interesting time to live.. however, the one problem is using my advanced knowledge of the world markets/companies, even if I did make millions/billions of dollars like in back to the future lol, the luxuries I would be able to buy would be considered basic items today.. think of a microwave or TV. All this money to buy subpar items I had before in a life that has been fairly modest... One good thing though I could buy a lot more whores with this money and big ass gas guzzlers.

As I said earlier: a rich Roman in the Roman Empire.

A world filled with mystical pagan cults, glittering temples and beautiful priestesses, ritual sacrifice, ritualized prostitution and take part in  drug induced hallucination rituals.

Have a nice villa by the beach filled with beautiful Germanic slave women.

You'd have hot running water, glass windows, flushing toilets and even underfloor heating if you were rich.

Go watch a gladiatorial game with your buddies, watch a mock sea battle in the Colosseum or go check out the chariot racing at the circus.

Have an orgy of plentiful slave women any time you want.

Etc.

My grandfathers age, born in the 20's. Got to fight in World War Two, watch this country become the superpower, and made decent money. This generation will just see the decline, brought on by the hippie baby boomer generation.

I might just zoom into the future so that I can live in a space station and gaze at the earth everyday.  I have always loved space and anything related to it.

Uranus?

Less than 200 years ago, America was in civil war. That is a scary thought.

1970's. Pre-AIDS, free-flowing cocaine, reds & quaaludes, pointy boobs on chicks, smoking on airplanes, amazing rock concerts (Stones, The Who, and Led Zepplin all at their peaks) and driving this + a mustache would get you laid..

A guy 7 foot 500 pounds would barely have the strength to move in a battle ignoring the 200 pounds of weapons and armour.

And that`s ignoring the odds that a guy would be born in a country with 2-300 thousand people having one of the most impressive physiques in history.

No doubt the guy was big and strong, but nothing impressive by nfl standards.

I remember roughly 30 past lives at this point. Not all of them pleasant..actually hardly any. If I were to pick a period of time here on Earth I would say Atlantis. Granted, it was a different civilization and a different race of humans (we are mutts). But Atlantis was at some points one of the highest human civilizations ever in the galaxy over the last 5 billion years.

Politicians do as they are told. Policies are established by those above.

Well, i'd do anything it would take to try influence the direction of the people ;)

No matter what the cost!

Question though, do we keep our old brain/thoughts when we live in the selected time-period or do we start "fresh"?

When we incarnate/borne into this life we start with an auto-induced amnesia. All memories are there but we don't recollect. Some do remember, some remember well, some never even wonder. It all depends on what we came here to do individually. In this life, remembering suits my purpose. For you maybe it does't so you don't even think about it.

However, I found out that our childhood hobbies or inclinations, our teenage preocupations, our relationships mirror what once was. Even phobias reflect past traumas etc. The people you have relationships with (meaningful ones) more likely than not lived other lives as well together with you (maybe different roles).

There is no point in remembering unless you have the opportunity to finish unfinished business. Remembering everything would drive  you insane so you only remeber what you NEED to remember.. IF that.

What do you think of Scientology Sev? I think they try to teach erasing your memory from the past.
