A married New York City police officer was driven to suicide because his female boss wouldn't take no for an answer when he tried to end a stationhouse affair, according to a lawsuit filed by his widow.
According to the suit, Officer Matthew Schindler, 39, last year told his superior officer Sgt. Christine Hirtzel that "her sexual demands" and her threats to ruin his career had "caused him to contemplate suicide."
Later that day, Feb. 13, 2012, Schindler, a 14-year veteran of the force, parked his car on the side of the Long Island Expressway and shot himself in the head with his own sidearm.
Schindler, a beat cop in Queens, N.Y., was having an affair Hirtzel, but he "was made to understand that he would suffer tangible detriment in his job, job assignments, work conditions and future prospects if he did not submit to [her] sexual advances and demands," according to the suit.
Prior to killing himself on the night before Valentine's Day, Schindler warned his boss that he was thinking about killing himself, but she let him leave the stationhouse on his own and with his pistol anyway.
Worried that Schindler might hurt himself, Hirtzel came clean to a superior, confessing to the affair and warning that the cop was suicidal, according to the suit.
"The precinct captain attempted to communicate by phone with [Schindler]… and persuade him against suicide," according to the suit. But, soon after, Schindler shot himself.
Gina Schindler, the widow of the cop, was left to care for five young children. The lawsuit does not specify how much she is pursuing in damages.
A man who picked up the phone Hirtzel's home said "no comment" and said she was not available.
A spokeswoman from the New York City law department said they were reviewing the lawsuit,
"We are reviewing the claims. I cannot comment further since the matter is pending," the spokeswoman said.

tough life he must have had.. I hate when women try sleeping with me
Women are fucking nuts though.. I could see her threatening to ruin his career and marriage on a drop of a dime

Add to the fact that he probably felt nauseous each time he was with her

all he really had to do was cave, let her give him a BJ, then proceed to crap all over after he ejaculates. Like, actual doo doo. Tell her it happens every time.
That's one of those key moves that will make her want to get away from him. Problem-O solved!

Women should never be given positions of authority, they are not designed to understand how to use it responsibly.

The content of the OP is simply the narrative of the lawsuit; it may or may not be reflective of actual events. All that is sure is that the widow is claiming that:
(i) There was an affair
(ii) The sergeant threatened punitive actions if Schindler broke off the affair
(iii) These threats caused Schindler to kill himself
(iv) The sergeant confessed about the affair to a superior, causing the station captain to reach out to Schindler
I find it odd that the lawsuit has rather specific details of the supposed conversation between the sergeant and Schindler. How would the widow know that such a conversation took place, let alone its specific contents? If Schindler himself told her, you'd think she would be able to coax him into not killing himself, or at least try to get help for him.
Also, (iv) & (i) being true doesn't necessitate that (ii) and (iii) are true. It could easily be that Schindler was already suicidal, a depressed person on the edge, when he spoke to the sergeant. The conversation may not have involved threats at all, but still lead to a confession of an affair in an effort to get help for Schindler. Of course, that implies that the affair played a role in Schindler's suicide, for why else would the sergeant bother to mention it in a confession detailing Schindler's threats of suicide. The affair was apparently a necessary explanatory variable for the sergeant to cite in her plea that Schindler was suicidal, meaning she clearly thought it was a cause of his being as such (assuming (iv) happened at all).
I guess it will depend on what her superiors testify to regarding the confession, plus the content of the communications between S & the s (the ones they can find). Unless there is clear evidence of a "threat" from the sergeant, whatever contributions the affair made to Schindler's depression the sergeant isn't responsible. It will be interesting to see as well if the defense finds anything on Schindler's prior metal health. I would think they would work into their narrative the fact that he had 5 kids, a significant stressor.

This sounds closer to the truth.
Accused sergeant: My affair with suicide cop was consensual — and he killed himself after I broke it off
Christine Hirtzel told Internal Affairs a story that conflicts with that of Matthew Schindler's widow. In her lawsuit, Gina Schindler alleges that Hirtzel forced her husband into the affair and threatened to stall his career if he resisted.
