Title: Excellent op-ed on the pussificaiton of the American Male

New Rule: America needs to show it's the home of the brave by acting like it. Did you know that the defense budget of the United States is bigger than the defense budgets of the next 13 countries combined? Most of whom are allies and none of whom are enemies.

So, let me ask you, if a guy on your block was so frightened of mostly non-existent prowlers that he spent all his resources on alarm systems and guns and cameras, so much so that he didn't even have enough money left to maintain his home or send his kids to college, would you call him "brave?"

Well...tonight, I'd like to take a few minutes to try and answer that question and find out just how we became such a nation of dickless, armchair warriors. Starting with the story of the football hero who last night attempted to explain himself to Katie Couric, and even after years of taking vicious hits to the head, still answered her questions better than Sarah Palin did.

But, what puzzles me is not the scandal of whether he lied, but the relationship itself. Oh, sure, what Manti had sounds attractive: a time-consuming, virtual relationship where you get to talk endlessly with your girlfriend without those "annoying breaks for sex."

But, doesn't it say something about the state of our manhood that this primal warrior never even had sex? Because his girlfriend only existed in "fairyland."  And, sadder still, why was this dumb jock such a hero to so many men in the first place? Grown-ass men who were "let down by him."

Red-blooded American males whose mood on Saturdays is dependent on how well a 20-year-old kid tackles a 19-year-old kid. Middle-aged guys who wear replica jerseys with the name and number of their favorite boyfriend -- I mean, player. Guys who get in fights with other guys in other replica jerseys over whose 20-year-old is better.
Is the relationship American men have with their sports heroes really any less weird than the one Manti had with his girlfriend? Guys sitting on the couch all day watching some figures on a screen toss around a dot? You're not a fan, you're a cat!

The problem of our masculinity is apparently so acute that the pharmaceutical companies are now selling a pill to remedy a new affliction called "Low T," or "low testosterone," the symptoms being moodiness, a reduced sex drive, and extra hair growing around your vagina.
I mean, Christ, first they invented boner pills for men who wanted to fuck but couldn't. Now we need a pill to make you want to fuck in the first place!

Yes, I think men are in trouble when you have to juice like Lance Armstrong just to get through your anniversary.

And I think it's because a lot of men today just aren't feeling all that useful. They did in the days of hunter-gatherers, but in today's society, women do the hunting and the gathering. It's called shopping.
And the men, for most of us, the most masculine thing we do all day is pee standing up.

And that's why we wind up idolizing other men who do the masculine things we're not doing: football players, soldiers, action stars who solve every problem with violence. [slide of George Bush] Tough guys who start wars for no reason. Generals who conquer ragtag armies from third world countries...these are the vessels of our outsourced masculinity.

Why do men collect guns? You know, former Georgia Senator Zell Miller once said, "I've got more guns than I need, but not as many as I want." Well, the Pentagon is just Zell Miller on a larger scale, with shoes on

It has more guns than it needs, but not as many as it wants. And I know some of you out there are saying, "Oh, now that's some liberal bullsh** right there, calling guns a replacement for testosterone." But, if that's not true, how come, as a man gets older, his gun always gets bigger? [slides of posters for early and current Arnold Schwarzenegger films]

It's just a commentary on how Men aren't men anymore.  It's true.  Technology, convience and just society is a total castration of what a man is.

What is the "manliest" thing you do all day?

Is sitting around in a football jersey cheering on a bunch of young men considered manly?

Is programming software or playing on an iphone, PS3, Xbox manly?

Is  jacking off to online porn manly?

How about dressing yourself in fancy lablelled clothes.  Does that make you manly?

Bang-Bang Aussie.
What a load of shit, it wouldn't matter what somebody says, It could be "Do you lift?", "I fucked your mum", "Your sisters a slut" whatever, it doesn't matter, if while in public they come and get in your face with the intent of humiliating or embarrassing you or just for the fun of harassing strangers, for sure beat them down, you never know what the intent of somebody who is prepared to act in such a way is, and by playing along, you could easily become their next victim, and the safest course of action is to beat them down!

Essentially, using violence against bullies in my book will always be OK, the problem is whenever it is the other way around, and bullies think using violence or intimidating and harassing others for no other reason than they can, then in these cases I will always advise a good beat down, unless you wan't to be somebody else's bitch your whole life! this is the case with Chris Kyle, a classic bully who finally got what was coming to him, he promoted violence in the name of being a bully, and eventually he got bullied, and lost!  Unfortunately, violent minded people only understand one thing, violence, and they leave pacifists little to no option but to use violence against their harassment, intimidation and bullying, decent folk stay out of trouble, they know better than getting in peoples faces, but if people come at them looking for trouble, they know they have right on their side and stand up for themselves.

You obviously have little experience with criminals, when in public, if they target you, the very first thing they are going to do is feel you out, get in your face and harass you, see how easy a target you are, if you are passive, you are the next victim.  If you assert yourself they will probably leave you alone.  The so called practical joker you are referring to in my book is criminally minded, and sooner than later he will get the beat down he deserves if he hasn't already.  Vitaly Zdorovetskiy has openly admitted he thinks his behaviour is appropriate and nothing wrong with it, even though he has already been charged and locked up for it, it is obviously a case of the father not disciplining his son and now he has become a public nuisance, personally, I think he is either a sociopath or severely mentally ill!  Vitaly Zdorovetskiy is everything that is wrong with the youth today, considering the serious issues the world and humanity faces, this is the best thinking and ideas these retards can come up with.  It's youth like that that leaves people seriously questioning the fate of humanity!

This is how we deal with bullies in Australia!

Weren`t you the moron at a SuperBowl party yesterday trying to pick up a high school senior, despite being 35 years old?  Who let you in to a High School Party and was this manly?

Also, you haven`t defined anything that you think is "manly".  How about you start with that first.

Violence, naked force, has settled more issues in history than has any other factor, and the contrary opinion [that violence never settles anything] is wishful thinking at its worst. Breeds that forget this basic truth have always paid for it with their lives and their freedoms

A great quote from Robert Anson Heinlein (And the movie Starship Troopers)

I believe in violence, but only as a way to stop those who are beyond reason and insist on using violence, or promote violence, or trample other people rights and freedoms.  In this case, Chris Kyle was right, violence ended his pathetic wretched life, and violence removed himself from this world a young, miserable, wretched coward.  Ironically, had he listened to his Momma, he could have chosen a better lifestyle and enjoyed a healthy happy life, not one filled with war, death and crazy people!

I am not some liberal hippy who believes violence has no place, but I think Gandhi said it best "There is no path to peace, Peace is the path", but while on that path if others seek you out to violate, assault, intimidate or harass you and they can't be reasoned with, they leave peaceful people little option but to use violence in return.  If people learnt how to behave and respect others, their would be little need for violence, but people can't leave well enough alone.  Look how far Violence has gotten America, they are despised by large parts of the world, the people have little to no freedom, their country is a filthy shit-hole that can't even look after it's own people, school kids can't even attend school without fear of being murdered, and the belief in the all mighty gun has seen the Countries moral fibre all but disappear.

America hasn't won one conflict since World War 2, they may have all the money and bombs in the world, but they couldn't win a War to save themselves.  Their violence hasn't solved shit, just made them the embarrassment of the Industrialised world and a huge target for terrorists!

I dont concern myself with being manly, i do what i like and makes me happy. what you or bill maher thinks doesnt trouble me one bit. Not saying a grown man wearing another mans shirt is hetero past a certain age maybe 17 or so. But bill and his lame critiques are unmanly point. never a suggestion just critiques. Why s he complainin? if  men like him didnt have laws to save their asses theyd be dead along time. maybe he s bitter he cant get into sports cause he has body structure a mother would have brought up to the hills and left there as a newborn in a more manly period like say 10 years ago. ::)

I think you have me confused with someone else, I have never been stabbed, and although my house was once burgled over 20 years ago, I was never home.  Never trust a getbigger to get his facts straight!!

George Harrison was stabbed in his home.

I have a friend who is divorcing her husband, because he spends all day on his iphone?

It's just a commentary on how Men aren't men anymore.  It's true.  Technology, convience and just society is a total castration of what a man is.

What is the "manliest" thing you do all day?

Don't be so down on your broself.  You're almost a construction guy.   ;D

if you hate sports, I will absolutely guarantee you were TERRIBLE at them as a child and in high school, and felt left out and are jaded at those who can truly appreciate them.

Funny thing is this guy is a regular at the Playboy mansion and apparently fucks a lot of the whores there.

Yes and instead of being a bitch and yelling at the TV I was chatting up whores looking to see who I can have sex with.  This equals manly.

Weren`t you the moron at a SuperBowl party yesterday trying to pick up a high school senior, despite being 35 years old?  Who let you in to a High School Party and was this manly?

Also, you haven`t defined anything that you think is "manly".  How about you start with that first.

and you are posting on getbig, a site dedicated to oiled men in thongs... the fact you have thousands and thousands of posts proves you don't even take your own advice and probably gayer than most. Seriously, over 11k posts, all that time could have been "chatting up whores looking to see who you can have sex with". You failed.

What about the millions of Americans (and people from around the world for that matter) that don't own guns, but realize it's an essential right?

???

I don't carry a gun, I don't have any loaded guns around me.  I don't go to the range (there's not one in my city).  I don't have anything to do with gun culture.

I support the second amendment, like I support all other limits on the government.  We need to limit government even further, not individuals.

???

I don't carry a gun, I don't have any loaded guns around me.  I don't go to the range (there's not one in my city).  I don't have anything to do with gun culture.

I support the second amendment, like I support all other limits on the government.  We need to limit government even further, not individuals.
Governments are far from the greatest problem, they are somewhat partially accountable. and they can become as benign as we make it.   What's not benign (what's extremely harmful, in fact) is business power, which is highly concentrated and, by now, largely
transnational. Business power is very far from benign and it's completely unaccountable. It's a totalitarian system that has an enormous effect on our lives. It's also the main reason why the government isn't benign.   As for guns being the way to respond to this, that's outlandish. First of all, this is not a weak Third World country. If people have pistols, the government has tanks. If people get tanks, the government has atomic weapons.  There's no way to deal with these issues by violent force, even if you think that that's morally legitimate.

Guns in the hands of American citizens are not going to make the country more benign. They're going to make it more brutal, ruthless and destructive. So while one can recognize the motivation that lies behind some of the opposition to gun control, I think it's sadly misguided.

And it's obvious their are millions of people who support the second amendment, as long as they realise by doing this, they endanger their children to a far greater extent than if they supported strict gun control.  They either support a humans right to safety and security and let go of their guns or they support their right to own guns and further lessen other peoples right to safety and security and make society far more dangerous.  Unfortunately, due to Americas (sick) culture, they won't be able to have both, they won't be able to have guns and safety and security, this has been evident for decades, it is just a case of collective denial that prevents change.

Another solution could be heavily subsidised penis enlargements for those who willingly hand over their guns, surely the real thing will be a better solution than just simply owning deadly phallic objects like guns.

Well, when you're appointed to the Supreme Court let me know!  ;D

Take a peek at all the State Constitutions that guarantee an individuals right to bear arms.

i.e.
"That every citizen has a right to bear arms in defense of himself and the state."

"A person has the right to keep and bear arms for the defense of self, family, home and State, and for hunting and recreational use."

"All persons have the right to keep and bear arms in defense of themselves, their families, their property and the state. "

So what, I would rather do what is right than follow corrupt or dangerous laws, if I was forced to keep slaves by law, or if I was forced to own a gun by law, or if I laws forced me to be segregated etc etc.. I would simply refuse.  I have no problem with being arrested for not following dangerous, bigoted or corrupt  laws.  And odd that gun nutters make such assertions, they are the first to admit they won't follow the law if certain gun control measures are introduced, one of their slogans openly admits to being willing to become an OUTLAW!

Very true. But this fact then also invalidates the very premise behind the second amendment: the people keeping their government in check. Because indeed: the people will, in virtually all cases, lose.

The people always win if they go into one direction - the people is the state from top to bottom unless we're speaking of a world with T800s roaming the malls.
The problem lies within the people's interest and their will to stand up for what they think is important.
One of the best ways to vote and stand up for your right without having to take damage is to consume in a thoughtful manner knowing details about origin, resources and possible effect of consumption.
Large malls with stupid people and foreign goods destroyed freedom - not the Taliban or Al Jazeera.
