On Tuesday, Vice President Joe Biden appeared on a Facebook townhall, where he was asked a question about gun ownership by a female viewer from Parent Magazine. Biden’s suggestion: nobody needs an AR-15, especially women. Instead, he stated, “If you want to protect yourself, get a double-barrel shotgun.” In fact, Biden went further, describing his strategy for home defense:
I said, 'Jill, if there's ever a problem, just walk out on the balcony here ... walk out and put that double-barrel shotgun and fire two blasts outside the house.’ … You don't need an AR-15 — it's harder to aim, it's harder to use, and in fact you don't need 30 rounds to protect yourself. Buy a shotgun! Buy a shotgun!
There are a few problems with this. First, it is illegal to discharge a firearm in public in Delaware, as it is in virtually every state. Shooting a gun into the air would arguably not constitute self-defense and poses a threat to the public, especially since a slug would come down at some point.
Second, if you have a typical double-barreled shotgun, the gun only holds two shells. If you fire twice into the air, you have just disarmed yourself.
Third, shotguns are used in more murders every year in the United States than the rifles the left wants to ban.
Fourth, for Biden to suggest that women are incapable of handling AR-15s, even as the Obama administration pushes women into frontline military combat, is ridiculous to say the least.
Leave it to Joe Biden to repeatedly undermine his own gun control case – and to get basic self-defense with a shotgun wrong.

Biden is a bit of a nut. I'm a gun owner but not a gun advocate... At the same time I would suggest that a 12 gauge in untrained hands can be as dangerous or more dangerous than a .223 rifle.
There is an old argument that you should load it with bird shot to avoid killing an intruder or a neighbor but then the dispersal pattern becomes a concern.
No guns/ammo in the home is the ideal. But if you have to have both then everyone should have some basic training on how to handle them. Replacing a 30rd mag with 2rds out buckshot is a stupid idea.

Who were the people that suggested women throw up or pee on their attackers or claim that they are on their periods? Powerfull deterrents just like an empty shotgun. ::) Why didn't I think of that? All that money I wasted on firearms when I could just piss myself if I'm attacked.

The Newtown Board of Education wants more armed police officers in the town's four elementary schools after the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary.
Last night, they decided to ask the town to approve the request to include one additional full-time Newtown police at each of the elementary schools in next year's budget.
Members of the board will meet today with state and federal officials about obtaining additional funding for security.
“Our parents are demanding of us that things are made safe and secure and certain measures are put in place,” Chairwoman Debbie Leidlein said. “So we’re being very thoughtful.”
Several police officers have been stationed at all Newtown schools since the Dec. 14 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary, where 20 children and six staff members were killed.
Those officers will remain at the school through the remainder of the school year, but the budget for the next fiscal year funds only resource officers at middle and high schools.
Parents said security means more than a police presence.
“My main concern is with accessibility to these school, said Neil Johnson, a parent of two Newtown students. “On December 14th, that was the main bare-boned reason that occurred.”
“After what happened in our community, I just think we should go over and above and provide a shining example for the rest of the world and protect our kids,” said resident Donna Lorenz.

MONTPELIER, Ohio - The Montpelier Exempted Village Schools Board of Education has approved the carrying of handguns by its custodial staff.
The 5-0 vote of the board Wednesday night to allow handgun training for four custodians to be able to tote weapons at the K-12 campus at the Williams County school came after last month's deadly shooting rampage at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut.
School officials say that having armed personnel - believed to be the first for any school system in Ohio - is designed to thwart incidents of violence and prevent what happened in Newtown, Conn., from occurring here.
"Sitting back and doing nothing and hoping it doesn't happen to you is just not good policy anymore. There is a need for schools to beef up their security measures," Supertendent Jamie Grime told The Blade today. "Having guns in the hands of the right people are not a hindrance. They are a means to protect."
School board President Larry Martin said that while the school distict began looking into arming employees about six months ago, the board didn't announce the concept publicly until Wednesday's monthly meeting.
He said the Dec. 14 massacre of 20 children and six staff at Sandy Hook heightened the decision to put the resolution on the board agenda.
"Our main goal is to offer safety for our students while they are in the classrooms and in the buiding," Mr. Martin said. "We have to do something and this seems like the most logical, reasonable course to go with."
Before voting on the resolution, which was approved 5-0, village Police Chief Jeffrey Lehman met with the board and superintendent in executive session to provide advice, suggestions, and his professional opinion, said Mr. Martin, a school board member for 20 years.
School officials also reviewed the resolution with the district's Cincinnati-based law firm, Ennis, Roberts, and Fischer, LPA, to determine whether gun possession by janitors in the classroom is legal under the state's concealed-carry license law.
Mr. Grime said their legal counsel advised that Ohio's gun law allows for school boards to authorize employees to possess weapons on school grounds if they pass the requirements of the concealed-carry law.
The school district will pay for the employees to undergo a two-day training class in mid March, when instructors with the Tactical Defense Institute of West Union, Ohio, will give them a defense class on handgun use in Montpelier.

not just more kids killed by cars. It's astronomically more. You can add up all of the kids killed by serial killers, terrorists and random psycho shooters over the past 50 years and still not even come remotely close to matching how many kids are killed in auto accidents in one single year. I would still like to know how you get off opposing gun ownership while owning a gun yourself. That is what you suggested in your post.

I do like hunting (geese and deer) and range shooting.
I grew up around guns but I wouldn't say that we were gun nuts. We just lived in the country and learned how to use them when we were young to kill ground hogs, raccoons and coyotes (farming reasons).
I travel for shooting on occasion having been to a full auto event in Texas (pretty cool) and shooting at F.O.P. in Birmingham for a week while on a golfing vacation. I have also gone turkey hunting with handguns (fucking hard) and on two organized moose hunts (fucking huge animal).
But you wouldn't have to 'pry my guns from my cold dead hands'. That's retarded IMO.
