that's impressive to those of us who did not bench 585 at 175 at the age of 18.

the crossfit games should be called the crossover games because the competitors were already very athletic prior to their introduction to crossfit

We pick up around 2-3 ex-crossshiters a month because of injuries.

im gonna try 315 tomorrow, fucking twink..

Holy shit. The hospital costs would cripple me even further.

This will probably end bad.
I haven't done a power clean or anything close to it(like the snatch) in 7 years lol

With no drug help either ... ;)

Rich is not the strongest....he is the most "efficient" at a lot of stuff he does. I would say though, the 300lb snatch is impressive, but not something that is an indicator of why he is champion.
Always count on Coach to chime in with anti-crossfit shit ::) Post that video again where you had the kid slinging the sandbag across his shoulders and other shit because you are making him a better athlete. Do you also help your athletes out with their drug regime too Coachiepants?

Dude is explosive! I have watched crossfit on ESPN, he is impressive!

The Coach is so jealous of Crossfit! Lol. No matter how many David Ramsey and Rich Dad! Books Coach reads, he still can't touch the profits Crossfit generates. That's why they call jealousy "the green eyed monster".

Snatch
I thought this thread was about fat chicks.

Oh, but he gets clients because of how dangerous it is. Hey Coach...how come Crossfit doesn't show up here:

I don't cross fit but I respect those who really dedicate them self to it. Just like you can't take a beginner bodybuilder in the gym and make fun of him you shouldn't do that to a beginner cross fit guy.
Most guys would be crushed if they ever tried to hang with in shape cross fitters. That big bench means nothing when it comes to conditioning.
Those guys who are not impressed with a 300lbs snatch know nothing about lifting weights.
500lbs bench pressors with a bench shirt are a dime a dozen. Very few 300lbs snatch guys across America.

sport
/spôrt/
Noun
An activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others.
Hmmmm....anything to say about that?
Unfortunately, you acting ignorant is not considered a sport, physical activity, or competition. Oh, and by the way...its "wear". No, I don't WEAR those shoes..but if are seriously blasting them, are you going to blast NFL players who WEAR them while training? Love how you continually look for every little bit you can to rip on something about it. Find a hobby that's constructive.

Strangely I had this exact conversation someone on a crossfit board on another site about this video...
This was the response, it was a thread about what dumbass Glassman stated in a tweet...
Lets examine this particular day's training. We started out with soft-tissue work (foam roll, trigger point), dynamic warm ups w/active stretch followed by mobility drills, then core work paired up with a speed drill (I believe this day we did a sled march) then we went into out strength training which consisted of an ME lower body day. Since this was a maximum effort day, our recovery times for each power lift (Squats/Dead lift) were 2-3min between sets 6 sets of squats 4 sets of DL in the rep range of 3-1 for box squats and 3-1 for DL. Axillary lifts were at a :90 recovery. Are you with me so far??
After that is when we did our conditioning (the video). If you payed attention and knew what to look for, we did three rounds of 40 yards with the prowler, sand bag carry with an obsticle (the stacked tires) NOW...that took a total of about :30 the recovery was 2min...TWO MINUTES. We did not do 15 reps with a clean (we NEVER go above 5 with that or any O-lift) followed by anything else as an example. When I put my programs together, especially conditioning with loads, they are done with the three energy systems in mind. If I don't, these athletes would have a CNS breakdown and get injured, not MIGHT get injured, they would get injured. Glassman doesn't get that. Who cares what Glassman says? You'd be surprised. Just because you see people running around doing something that RESEMBLES crossfit, doesn't mean it is crossfit.
-
What's interesting is that Froning has an unnatural aptitude for the Snatch, it's within #50 of his C/J. His other lifts aren't huge either. You don't see that in many people.

Strangely you didn't address the fact that I showed you what the definition of "sport" is. Care to comment tubby?

Well, if that's the definition then its a sport. I put it right up there with synchronised swimming and curling.

what about 5ft 7?

Well, if that's the definition then its a sport. I put it right up there with synchronised swimming and curling.
Well, a dictionary is a wonderful thing perhaps you should check one out in between training all the top level athletes that you do. You will find the differences between 'wear' and 'ware' in there too. I am sure that the synchronized swimmers and curlers are now in mourning over the fact that you don't think much of their sport. Ever been to an Olympics Joe? Or is posing in a thong the closest thing to a 'competition' you have achieved?
-
That is very impressive and he made it look easy.

Don't forget, that's a lot for weak crossfitters :D

Nope, ever been to or had an athlete(s) in an College, NFL combine? Or how about a Pro day? (five years straight now).Ever have the biggest agent in baseball come visit and observe how you handle their players and prospects? Would I like to go to an olympics? Hell yes.

Nope is what I thought.
I would love to list the names of the MLB, NFL, and MMA guys that I have helped. Have you been involved with the executive from Nike that coordinates the athletes and what the do for the commercials? Were you ever invited to, and escorted around by the owner of APS in Arizona? Been involved with the whole team for a class A affiliate of a major league team? Shall I continue? If there was an Olympics for being pompous, self-righteous, and narrow minded...you would surely wind gold.

Well, you see the difference between you and I is that I have humility and don't mind recognizing when someone (potentially) may have more knowledge than me, or that they may have a different perspective. Please don't be so arrogant to think that you were the only person I posed the question to. I took your lack of answer to mean you probably didn't have an answer. Shall we continue?

Have someone who KNOWS how to do it explain it it you. It's a very hard and technical lift and you might get hurt.

Yeah, well the guy above specializes in the snatch and c/j. Frowning does those lifts to better himself for crossfit comps.
-

In reality it's a pretty simple and natural movement.

If it comes simple to you I applaud you. That snap and drop can drive you bat shit crazy. After so many years of "control the weight" fucks with your head.
That Pyrros Dimas video is one of my favorites. Shit never ceases to amaze.

You serious?

the "300 lbs" seems suspect to me.
few guy at my gym can snatch 225, it's already a big deal.
-
those weights are heliumized so it's a lighter 300 lbs than normal - still 300 lbs but heliumized.

Yep. Snatch is simple torso extension and squatting motion. Some 50 years ago everyone did these ballistic movements, now everyone bench.
I would rate running as one of the most complex movements (with lots of potential for injury) a human can do but I have never heard anyone say don't run unless you can get a coach to look after you.

No, just because it looks easy doesn't mean it is easy. It's not nearly just "torso extension and a squatting motion. It's much more involved than that. Like other o-lifts.

snatch is hell. period
a weightlifter gives me few tips.
i did some snatch with 30 pounds, it's hard, with 60 pound it was hell.
and my form was shit.
its more than a deadlift+an overhead squat.

The only reason why I teach it is because most kids are taught improperly in HS. Coaches will demonstrate then just have the kid do it then a month later they want to test a 1rm and if can get it up, they count it, no matter the technique. These are technical lifts that take time. Other than that, I wouldn't teach it.

No lie, whilst looking at that chart my knees started twitching. Ouch

In many states you can find a thousand guys that can raw bench 300lbs. You will be lucky if you can find one guy in a state that could snatch 300lbs. It's an explosive lift that builds power and speed.
If an athlete has never done any olympic type lifts you should measure his vertical leap. I bet almost universally you will find an increase from just including the power clean where power is necessary to complete the lift.
Many delusional guys who base their perceived strength on the bench can't take 225 off the floor and put it over head. The main reason is a lack of explosive power. They will blame that's it's to complicated as if cleaning a weight is algebra.

maybe in 1983 or even 1993, oldtimer. all the college programs do them now.
-
but the weights are heliumized of course, which makes the lift ergonomically better.

i saw a lot of college video, lsu, fsu etc etc etc ...
the form generally in all lift is shitty.
bouncing bench, distorted squat, shitty clean etc etc

Just Torso extensions and squatting? Well then just go ahead and try a SIMPLE overhead squat and tell me how simple that is, then just try and imagine the force needed to lift, in this case, 300 pounds off the ground, keep the bar in a straight line and stop it on top of your head before you fall back. (and there's a lot more involved)
Btw, have you ever tried snatching or even overhead squatting? Most people i know have difficulties just squatting or front squatting in correct form let alone snatching
-
.
Thank you for the chart

I like to do my overhead squats with a narrow grip, snatch grip is for pussies. ;)
I never said I'm strong enough for 300 lbs.
At some point I snatched 3-4 times a week. Maybe that is why we think differently. I didn't try it just once.
-

He could do 1rm overhead squats with 310lbs two years ago, so it was only a matter of time with his given explosiveness.

If true then that is why it seems easy to you. You're trained at it. Just for laughs, ask someone who never done them to try it in front of you then ask how easy it felt to them ;)
