Title: using 5-alpha reductase inhibitor while on cycle?
Post by: skinny_buff on February 26, 2013, 04:39:00 AM
Someone I know mentioned his use of dutasteride while on cycle to prevent hairloss. I'm curious if it would interfere with the AAS effectiveness as it blocks its androgens or whatever. I'm sure it would as the 5-alpha reductase inhibitor drugs are antiandrogenic. The side effects are scary for both Finasteride and Dutasteride. Might as well not get on either. Now Alfatradiol is topical which means it's not a pill that you swallow, more like something you rub like a lotion to your head/hair. I'm looking into it as I think it's a better option. Anyone tried it? Does Rogaine even work or it's junk? I don't have MPB issues but just so I know what to do next if I ever shed hair. I've used both Nizoral non-prescription (1x strong) and prescription (2x stronger) just for preventive measures. I have some thickening shampoos as well.

If you don't have issues with mpb than don't even bother....finasteride and dutasteride only work with testosterone. Rogaine worked for me but at a 5% solution ...also with a 5% azelaic acid mix at the time.

I was in Canada back when I used it but I ordered it from a place in the U.S. Would've needed a script otherwise....

are you saying finasteride and dutasteride work better when used with Testosterone? Is there synergistic effect is what you're saying? I think I read that Finasteride and Dutasteride can lower testosterone thus, supplementing with Testosterone might be effective.

The hormone that causes hair loss is said to be dht. So what finasteride and dustasteride do is inhibit testosterone from converting to dht. Take finasteride/dut with any other steroid and it will have no effect on minimizing potential hair loss.

well some guy I spoke to mentioned his use of dutasteride on every AAS cycle to "prevent" hair loss.

Ask him if he uses any topicals....what he cycles....if he's prone to mpb...

prone or not, AAS will make anyone bald or have thinning hair. I have thick hair. It runs in the family. But I think I saw my hair thinned out. Topicals I knew he said he used was Nizoral shampoo (but this is more for dandruff than anything). All this talk about its use for MPB is a hunch from bro scientists. LOL. His use of Dutasteride was simply for prevention. Isn't dutasteride supposed to be tolerable with less sides than finasteride but just as highly effective? Dutasteride comes in 0.5mg compared to 1mg with finasteride (which means finasteride is a higher dosed drug). The higher the dose the higher the sides.
