Good for Mark. He's in his late 40's now and only entered the Arnold Classic this year because Big Z bailed out at the last minute.

Strong lift for sure, but not record breaking by any standards.  This is the actual deadlift world record.  RAW, NO STRAPS, NO SUIT, NO PULLING OUT!   :D

Big strong dude. No world record, no national record, no state record, no community center record.

X2. That's not a deadlift. That's a strongman event which is very impressive, but not a deadlift.

I'm not taking anything away from him, but rolling the bar towards your body before a deadlift is a foul in almost every single power lifting federation.

Strong dude for sure.

I've never seen a rule disallowing the roll, and I know the IPA does allow it. It does sometimes get looked at a tiny bit more to make sure of no false starts at the start of the pull.

Benni with out the roll would just be sad  :-\.

I thought it was a false start.  I know we got reds for it when we did it in WABDL, USAPL and IPF.

Can't remember if it's a rule, but they did foul for it.

does rolling the bar build momentum on the pull?

does rolling the bar build momentum on the pull?

A little bit, but it's mostly used by the larger guys to help get into position. They can squat down, roll it closer to the shins, and then just rip it. Some of them really have trouble setting up from a dead stop position.
