Title: Replicating the original Super Mario bros game on nintendo
Post by: 240 is Back on March 28, 2013, 03:18:30 PM
What platform offers the original super mario brothers game?

I *think* the Super Nintendo had it as part of "lost worlds" or something?

is there anything on the Wii that offers such a thing?  I haven't played much video games in 7-8 years so I'm a little clueless here.  thanks!

Go to a flea market or pawn shop. Also, I had a buddy who could beat the first Mario without losing a life or warping.

Or just download the rom for a NES emulator.

I believe the Wii has an online store of sorts where you can buy and download most of the old Nintendo and Super Nintendo games then play them on Wii.

The Wii has a virtual console shop which has a lot of emulated games from over the years (including the sonics etc)

I *believe* you will only find Mario 1 in the molested format on the Super Mario Allstars version which is a "remastered" version that was on Super Nintendo (ie, the one with Lost worlds).

They changed the music, jazzed it up a bit and it lost a bit of the charm.  Particularly if your emotional hook is with the NES version.

The interesting/lame thing about the Wii Virtual Console shop is that they do not molest the graphics in any way.  Say you play Donkey Kong Country on an emulator, you can generally smooth it out to get it onto higher res of these days to the point where it looks pretty decent.  Just some basic filtering to fix up the jump to higher res.

You then go buy it on Virtual Console on Wii and you'll be playing with the original (and quite awful) jagged resolution blown up on your large TV.

But emulator.. meh, playing console games on computer is a lot like playing computer (fps for example) games on a console... a diminished experience.

I haven't played that game in probably 20+ years and I bet I could still do that today LOL!

Actually Mario does a pretty sick jump uppercut when he breaks those bricks.

Nintendo.com claims they have the original NES versions of all three Super Mario Bros games, plus the Japanese one ("Lost Levels") on Virtual Console.

rmemeber 7-2 or 7-3 in the mario 3 when you could turn that entire pyramid room to coins?   you'd get 3-4 free lives every time.  Epic.

NES
SNES
Famicom (kind of)
Nec (japan only)
Wii virtual game
GBC
GBA
GameCube
retro duo
retron 5

And if you willing to use a rom:
iOS
Android
PC
MAC
And other system you can hack.

If you have a jailbroken iPad or android tablet, a iCade 8-Bitty is hard to beat.
But the purist experience will be a retro duo, nes controller and an old cart.
