Title: The Rarest Weight's In The World
Post by: Robert Zuver on May 14, 2013, 03:02:18 PM
What are the Rarest set of Vintage Iron Weight Plates In the World?
Zuver's of course.
Most people think the Big Boy Zuver's Hall of Fame Gym Plates Are the most Rare but they would be wrong.
They are the Most sought after plates in the world and the most expensive plates in the world but they are not the Most Rare.
The most rare plates in the world are the Zuver's 45lbs plates.  There are only 2 known to exist. There were quite a few made but only one set was Chrome Plated by Bob Zuver and used in all three Zuver's Gym's. all the greats that visited Zuver's through the years touched them, used them, lifted them.  They are very expensive now and prized by the Richard Sorin the Vintage Iron Collector that now has them in his collection. Richard considers the Zuver's Muscle Plates he has as the most rare but to me, Robert Sorin, the pair of plated 45s are the most Valuable. Below are some photos of them in the gym as well as seen with Terry Todd and Bert Elliot leaning on them. It's funny but the Zuver's 100lbs and 150lbs plates never get any mention. There are only four 150lbs plates known to exist and Only Two Zuver 100lbs Plates left. I'm the only one to have all four sizes of the Famous Plates. There should be more black Zuver's 45lbs plates out there some where so keep your eyes open and watch out for them. You could just find a set of The Most Rare Weight Plates In The World.

If you have some vintage iron that you know of that has sold for a high price please post it here for all of us to view.
In Richards collection the Zuver plates are the only ones Chained to the rack.
Wonder Why?

If you spent over $7,000.00 for four weight plates wouldn't you lock them up?  And that would only make a small down payment on the Big Boy 150lbs And 200lbs Zuver Muscle Plates. Even some of my small Zuver's Gym plates went for over $40.00 a pound last year.
How much would one of The Four known Original Thomas Inch Dumbbell's go for???  You never hear a price on though's.
Or a original piece of Jackson Iron?
Are there any vintige collectors on this site?

Joe's site Iron History is a great site. Lots of good info. It's a site for the very serious collector of info and Iron.
If I were looking for specific info I would for sure go to his site. I visit this site to shoot the breeze per say with other people that like looking at what I can show them and so I can see things they may have to share for me to see. That's what makes this site FUN.   FUN is what Zuver's Gym was about along with being a place that cared about helping those who trained there to achieved there goals.
That's why I like this site.

I spoke with the seller and they are right. The seller does want 5G each. Being that there are only 4 left known to exsest that may not be to far off. We will see.

Well two new sets of Zuver's Famous Muscle Plates on eBay.

What do you guys think about what some collectors are willing to pay for a piece of rare iron?
I'm watching how far they will go.

If people are willing to pay the high prices, that's great for the sellers.
The Zuver plates are really some of the nicest collectibles out there...

Funny but there's more to it than just that there Zuvers Plates.  When I sold some of my personal plates
Last year the Buyers were buying not only some great historic plates but also my story that went
with them. Being a Zuver seems to make the price better. At least I can say my plates were only used at the original Zuver's Gym. And were always in the possession of a real Zuver.
Truth is I've been offered more than the going price for these plates just because there from me. They are something way cool. I have phone numbers of several gentlemen hopeing I will someday sell more.
Will the ones on eBay sell for the super high prices.  The 50lbs plates yes sooner or later.  The 100lbs plates, I don't think so. A bit to high.  But you never know.
