They taste really good, for the little effort that goes into them. Also a great way to get a balanced brekkie for 75p!!!

That's why I started the thread to be honest. I've found so many ways of making basic ingredients taste good / mixing it up a little (mainly because my family have been through some very financially tight times) Hopefully people catch on and share some pics/recipes also

They have a really nice texture. I actually prefer them with only 3 eggs as you get more of a 'cakey' feel to them lol. I'm sure you've got some great ideas for cheap BB meals booty?

I've tried to bake pancakes made of oats in the past, but they were too fragile. Combining oats with brown flour seems to work better.
To make things easy, I add cinnamon to the batter.

Cakey sounds devine.    ;D  You know I used to do this baked potatoe and put tuna on it with sour cream and some baked beans.   :-[  It's embarrassing to admit it because it doesn't sound good but I made it for one of my girlfriends and she really liked it.

Brutal starting a  second  thread about a three post thread.

Those look good, but I would end up drinking the mixture and be done with it.

1.Simple Banana Protein Pancakes – 75p/$1
(30g protein, 35g carbs, 20g fat, 440 kcals)

What you’ll need: 1 banana, 4 whole eggs, ½ cup dry oats (cinnamon/mixed spice to taste if you need it)

Simply throw everything in a blender and blitz until smooth and put a small pan on a low heat with a splash of oil/butter/low kcal spray. Pour in around 1/3 of the mixture once the pan’s hot and give it a few minutes on each side until nicely browned. Sprinkle with cinnamon/splenda/whatever you prefer and start eating the first one, while you browse the G&O board and cook the rest! These have a lovely texture to them and the mix of oat & banana reminds me of my wife's banana loaf, yum.

Cut the yolks for a low fat/lower calories option, or reduce the oats to 1/4 cup to bring it down to around 26g if dieting with low carbs. If you need 600kcals for breakfast, make enough for another pancake!

Should look something like this:

(Eggs: 15 for £1.89 Aldi, Rolled Oats: 1kg for £0.60 Aldi, Bananas: 8 for £0.69p Aldi - you could eat these for breakfast every day of the week for only £4.50)

Interesting..

Please continue to share some of your other recipes.

I am always willing to try new culinary delights. I don't see how this would cost less than $1.50 (I think the four eggs alone would cost over at least a dollar, but nonetheless sounds like fun!

OMR - I think the math works - a dozen eggs is generally around $2 by me, so 4 is only 66 cents, bananas are cheap, and a half up of oats is miniscule.

Boom!

Thanks GA, it's which supermarket you source the food from that counts, not the actual food itself. 8 Bananas at M&S here will set you back around £1.50, the same amount costing just over HALF that at ALDI/LIDL.

This next installment was inspired by a recipe on my sister's food blog, which I've amended a tad to up the protein content. With protein comes extra pennies, however at 24p a burger I'm sure no one will be complaining to the moderators!

2. Egg, Carrot, & Kidney Bean burgers with a hint of curry  - £0.64p/ 98 cents (makes 4)
(35g protein, 44g carbs, 12g fat, 600 kcals/150 per patty)

What you'll need: 1 can of red kidney beans, 2 eggs (whole), 1 large carrot, 1 sm onion, heaped teaspoon of hot curry powder, 1 tablespoon dry oats, sm handful coriander (optional) salt/pepper to taste.

 1. Drain the can of beans and rinse thoroughly in cold water (gets rid of gloopy 'tinny' taste) throw them in a small pan and cover with boiling water and simmer for 10 minutes to soften them.

2. While they are boiling, finely chop the onion, grate the carrot, and add coriander and curry powder with a little salt and pepper. Saute in a frying pan with a little oil/butter/no kcal spray and stir until the onion softens (usually 4-5 mins) and remove from heat.

3. Once the beans have softened, drain away all the liquid and add to a bowl along with the carrot and onions. At this point add 2 egg whites, 2 whole eggs, and a large tablespoon of oats. Mash it all together with a fork/potato masher until you have a smoothish consistency

4. Heat a drop of oil in a pan on a medium heat, and spoon the mixture into 4 large patties (at this point you'll need to keep 'shaping' the patties for 30 seconds so they hold their shape). Cook each side for around 5 minutes on each side until browned/your sure the egg's cooked (handle gently while turning!).

5. Serve hot with your favourite complex carbohydrates - you could even bake a few sweet potatoes and have Pat Banya round for tea!  ;D (I just eat all 4 four on their own with some hot sauce)

My sisters version:

(Eggs: £1.35 for 15 - Aldi, Kidney Beans 21p Sainsbury/Tesco, Carrot 8p loose Sainsbury, Onion 8p loose Sainsbury, Oil 5p, Oats 2p)

Amended price

Housing prices are insane.  For instance, buying a studio apartment (condo or coop) in Manhattan, will easily cost you $1-1.5 million.

Cabs are just as ridiculous. The moment you step into a cab, there is a $2.50 surcharge that is already incurred. If you ride the cab at night time, it is an extra $.50 surcharge. Not to mention that you can now use credit cards to pay for your fare, but what most people don't realize is that you get charge an extra small fee (<$2.00) just to use the credit card option.

Prices are insane here. Our prices are on par with some parts of California.

You don't have to go too far. Other boroughs would offer you a lower cost-of-living, but that comes with a price. While you will pay less for housing, utilities and food, you make up for it with a higher crime rate, long commutes into the city, streets that are not as clean (less developed) and an overall inconvenience due to your workplace being 30-45 minutes away from your home via local transportation.

Ultimately, it's a trade-off.

Nothing in Southern California is inline with those prices, except for a taxi to the airport, but super shuttle works fine for $38.  I don't know about the Bay Area, just opted for a trip to Portland instead.

3. The Cheapo Chocolate MRP Shake (40g of protein) - £0.54 / 82 cents!!!
(40g protein, 32g carbs, 26g fat - 522 kcals)

What you'll need: 2 whole eggs (yolks optional - but why throw them!), 7 tablespoons of skimmed milk powder, 350ml semi skimmed milk, 2 teaspoons of cocoa powder, splenda/stevia to taste, ice if preferred.

1. Put all of the above into your mixer cup (I'd recommend adding the milk first to avoid anything sticking at the bottom)

2. Shake for 30 seconds with the fury of Galeniko's 3rd climax of the night!

Trust me guys, this shake tastes decent enough and costs a third of the price. Try adding a TB of PB, vanilla essence, or any coffee flavouring syrup (be careful with the simple sugars!).

(Generic photo)

Eggs - 9p each (£1.35 for 15 Aldi) Skim milk powder - 16p (£1.40 for 400g Tesco) Semi milk - 17p (99p for 2 litres Aldi) Cocoa - 3p (£1.00 Asda).

Oops lol, meant to break it down at the bottom!

Eggs - 12p each (£1.89 for 15 Aldi) Skim milk powder - 16p (£1.40 for 400g Tesco) Semi milk - 17p (99p for 2 litres Aldi) Cocoa - 3p (£1.00 Asda)

1 shake at 40g of casein/albumen protein = 60p / 90 cents.

As Adonis would say...culinary disaster....not to mention that that recipe is pretty similiar to the one in "Anabolic Cooking".

Everyone will have a different opinion, however it is what it is Vince. A 1 dollar meal that's high in protein is never going to feature on Masterchef.

What i'm trying to do though is explore easy recipes, made from mainly whole foods that still total less than one pound sterling per meal.

I'm 100% certain that many of the members here who don't have a huge salary yet, will find at least a couple of the upcoming recipes very useful.

No wonder why New York and California are so out of touch with reality.  Both places should be walled off and forgotten about.  :D
its the big metro cities that are ridiculous with food prices. I only live an 1 or so out of los angeles and food prices can be very reasonable depending on where you shop.

London isn't so bad as you only have to drive 30 mins from the city centre to reach the 'not so British' areas lol. Rice, eggs, chicken, beef, fish, veg, spices are dirt cheap.

You will always pay for convenience however, if someone deems it worthwhile to pay 150% of the price to avoid the travel/stress of travelling to buy groceries then it's all good.

4. 30 Second Cashew & Raisin Yoghurt mix – 58p/85 cents
(30g protein, 35g carbs, 27g fat - 503 kcals)

What you'll need: Half pot of 2% natural yoghurt, 4 tablespoons skimmed milk powder, 40g cashew nuts, handful raisins, splenda/stevia to taste.

So what's the BigDeal here? Is yoghurt with nuts/fruit even a recipe bro?

Try getting in 30g of protein from decent natural sources such as natural yoghurt and cashews for less than 90 cents! This meal/snack idea tastes great, is super quick to put together and makes a tasty alternative to eggs & oats, tuna & salad etc. Change is good. Try a big blob of this on top of my banana protein pancakes  ;)

1. Take a large cup/bowl, throw in 40g of salted cashews (much cheaper!!!) and rinse a couple of times to remove the sodium. Don’t worry about draining every last atom of water away as it will mix into the yoghurt anyway.

2. Scoop half a 500g pot of 2% natural yoghurt on top of the cashews, along with the milk powder, raisins, and whichever sweetener you prefer.

3. Fold together to dissolve the skim milk granules and sweetener and enjoy while pondering whether Bikinislut is truly a woman.

I came up with this quick mixture out of sheer oatmeal and egg boredom, plus it has the added bonus of being a zero cooking time breakfast if you’re on the run. Another good tip is to keep the rest of the yoghurt in the pot to make another batch of the same nutrient content for the office, or refrigerate for your last meal of the day.

(I’ll update the whole thread with my own pictures as I make each meal this week)

2% Yoghurt – 23p (£0.45 for 500g Sainsbury’s) Skim milk powder - 10p (£1.40 for 400g Sainsbury’s) Cashews – 17p (79p for 200g Aldi) Raisins - 6p (£0.98 for 500g Sainsbury’s) Sweetener 2p (99p for a container Aldi)

I'll be adding another tasty one this afternoon - watch this space!

Is 1g of protein per pound of bodyweight too difficult to acheive with my recipes (not that i'm suggesting this is optimum)?

Let's take a look so far:

Meal 1: Banana Protein Pancakes:              30g Protein (440 kcals for 3 pancakes) - £0.69
Meal 2: Cheapo Choccy Protein Shake:       40g Protein (522 kcals per shake) - £0.54
Meal 3: Egg, Kidney Bean & Carrot burgers: 43g Protein (600 kcals for 4 patties) - £0.74
Meal 4: Cashew/Raisin Yoghurt Mix:           30g Protein (503 Kcals per serving) - £0.58
Meal 5: Cheapo Choccy Protein Shake:       40g Protein (522 Kcals per shake) - £0.54

Total protein consumed: 183g of quality protein from food sources!

Total calories & cost: 2587 calories for a measly £3.04 / $4.64

I'll post up the total carbs/fat when I get a chance. It's worth bearing in mind that all of the meals I've posted contain hardly any refined sugar, and minimal 'processed' ingredients are used.

Not trying to entice Adam into this thread, but it's worth noting that for £4.29 you can buy 1 medium Big Mac meal in UK Mcdonalds which contains a measly 31g of protein in total.

Things that make you go mmmmmmm  ;D

I'd rather be eating 183g of protein for £3.39, along with a variety of foods.

5. Tuna Hummus Protein Wraps - £0.79 / $1.20 per wrap

(32.5g protein, 44g carbs, 7g fat - 400 kcals)

What you'll need: Tin of cheap tuna flakes, 400g tin of chick peas, 2 wholemeal tortilla wraps, 1 clove garlic, 1 lemon, tablespoon of sesame seeds, tablespoon olive oil, salt & pepper to taste.

1. Drain both the tuna and chick peas (you’ll want to rinse the chick peas a couple of times) and put the contents into your blender along with the sesame seeds, peeled garlic, olive oil, and all of the lemon juice.

2. Blend the ingredients until you have a pate-like consistency. Give it a taste, and add salt & pepper to season.

3. Warm your wholemeal wrap in the microwave for 15 seconds, spread half of the tuna hummus on one side (you can add salad at this stage if you prefer) and roll like a crepe to enjoy!

32.5g of protein, easy to wrap in foil and throw in your bag for the day – these are amazing, trust me.

(No homo)

X 2.

But if someone is eating less carbs for whatever reason, and needs x amount of calories, it's better in my opinion to source those calories from mainly protein, as it suits dietary needs when breaking down/repairing muscle fibres better than a high fat diet.

Funnily enough, i've never structured a diet with protein as the main consideration. I'll start with a base figure for grams of carbohydrates i'll be eating for x weeks, and whatever Kcals are left after carbs are deducted i'll divvy up into protein & 'healthy fats' (where possible).

It's ironic that protein wasn't the main consideration in any diet, but always comes out as the main ingredient in every meal.

6. Cottage Cheese & Spinach Stuffed Chicken Breasts wrapped in Streaky Bacon with Rice - £0.99/$1.50 per portion!

(37g Protein, 34g Carbs, 17g Fat, 600 kcals)
(Broccolli instead of rice: 34g Protein, 6g Carbs, 16g Fat, 450 Kcals)

What you'll need: 2,4, or 6 chicken breasts (depending on how many meals you're preparing) Low fat cottage cheese, frozen spinach Pack of streaky bacon, rice, dash of olive oil. (Low carb option: for the same price, replace the rice with half a plate of cooked frozen broccoli).

Once you take a bite of this, you won't believe it cost less than one pound to put together.

1.  Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius, take the chicken breasts and cut 3/4 of the way through. Put to one side and defrost a bunch of the spinach in a small cup of water.

2. Mix the cottage cheese with a pinch of black pepper and the drained spinach, and spread 2 tablespoons of the mixture in each breast.

3. Wrap 2 rashers of bacon tightly around each breast and drizzle with olive oil before placing in the centre of the oven for 40 minutes.

4. Put 250g of rice in a pan and wash in warm water until the water runs clear. Drain the water and add boiled water so that the water level is about 2cm above the rice level. Cover and simmer on very low heat until the rice is cooked throughout.

4. Check how the breasts are doing after 30 mins - you want the bacon to become somewhat crispy before serving.

Serving suggestion: Eat it slowly whilst watching Game of Thrones.

7. Raisin & Cinnamon Protein Pancakes – 51p/78 cents
(30g protein, 35g carbs, 20g fat, 440 kcals)

What you’ll need: 4 whole eggs, ½ cup dry oats, handful raisins/sultanas, teaspoon of cinnamon or mixed spice

This is a tasty alternative to the banana pancake recipe, with the same nutritional profile and makes a great breakfast. The blended raisins bring a texture that I really like – enjoy! (If you need around 600kcals for breakfast, make enough for another pancake)

1. Throw everything in a blender and blitz until smooth.

2. Put a small pan on a low heat with a splash of oil/butter/low kcal spray, once the pan’s hot enough pour in around 1/3 of the mixture and give it a couple of minutes on each side until nicely browned. Sprinkle with splenda for extra sweetness, and tuck in knowing that Onemorerep made the same pancakes all the way over in NYC for $5 a plate!

Cut the yolks for a low fat/lower calories option, or reduce the oats to 1/4 cup to bring it down to around 26g if dieting with low carbs, (I would cut to 3 eggs if using so little oats to avoid an ‘omlettey’ texture)

8. Jalapeno Beef & Pork Stuffed Peppers with Baked Egg...50g Protein/under 10g carbs - £0.99/$1.50!

8. Jalapeño Beef & Pork Stuffed Peppers with Baked Egg – £0.99/$1.50
(51g protein, 9g carbs, 25g fat, 474 kcals)

What you’ll need: 200g ground beef & pork (mince), 2 eggs, 1 large bell pepper, ½ onion, 1 clove garlic, ¼ cup pickled jalapeno pepper slices, 2 teaspoons paprika powder, ½ teaspoon cumin powder, heaped teaspoon of dried mixed herbs, salt & pepper.

This fiery recipe is for those who requested low carb/keto options (trust me it’s pretty hard to not bulk up a meal with cheap carb sources on less than a dollar fifty!)

Obvious Keto choices are tuna/egg salad with dressing etc, however; 1. That’s no recipe! 2. Salads/cold foods get very boring after a while - especially when you fancy something hot for lunch.

1. Halve the bell pepper (length ways) & remove all seeds/inner membranes. Break the eggs into a cup & add half the jalapeño slices, stirring the mixture a couple of times to break the yolk (don't overdo it as you'll want a nice marbled finish when cooked). Pour the mixture in each pepper half.

2. Heat the oven to 180 degrees (c) /350 degrees (f) and place the pepper halves on a baking tray (even directly onto the shelf is fine). Bake until the egg is cooked through/peppers begin to soften. Once cooked, remove from the oven and keep to one side for your topping.

3. While the pepper halves are baking, chop the onion & garlic as fine as you can get them, then heat a small drop of oil in a large pan on medium heat and add just the ground meat. Fry the meat, continuously stirring/folding it until most of the fat has cooked out (try to break down the meat as finely as possible) then drain the liquid fat from the pan.

4. Add the onions & garlic and stir the mixture occasionally until the onions soften. (Don't forget to check the peppers!)

5. Once the meat’s cooked turn the heat down low & add the paprika, cumin, jalapeno slices and dried herbs, with a small amount of water. You don’t want the mixture to be too wet; this is just to prevent it from burning. Simmer on a low heat for further 5-10 minutes, or until the peppers are baked. You’ll want to taste the mixture at this point to add however much salt/black pepper you prefer.

6. Once the peppers are baked, spoon the mixture to fill the remaining space in the halves (there should be plenty of meat – I usually let it run over the sides onto my plate!) & heat on a tray for another 5 minutes before serving.

If you fancy - sprinkle some cheese on top before the extra 5 minutes in the oven, or just before serving to make it even tastier.

The baked egg and jalapeno underneath the topping makes a nice change from the regular stuffed peppers I’ve seen elsewhere, plus the added egg increases the overall protein a little. BigCyp approved!

Haha yes anabolichalo, glad you like it.

Speaking of frugality - just got back from Aldi and notice the eggs aren't in fact £1.79 for 15 (which is cheap) in fact they're £1.35 for 15!!!  :o Just amending the pricing on the recipes now.

Thanks donny - I know how you feel mate, every pound helps these days lol!

Aldi are right on the money with their model at the moment, especially with general food prices against inflation and wages that aren't going up much either.

The Big One (Johnny Falcon Shake) - £0.99 / $1.48

(55g protein, 58g carbs, 20g fat - 675 kcals)

What you'll need: 4 eggs (2 whites, 2 whole) (Don’t throw the yolks in the bin!) 5 tablespoons of skimmed milk powder, 400ml skimmed/non fat milk, 1 frozen banana, ¼ cup plain low fat cottage cheese, tablespoon of peanut butter, splenda/stevia to taste (should be sweet enough).

I named this shake in honor of 'that daddywaddy photo'  ;D Another decent tasting shake, and at almost 700kcal you could even use as a meal replacement.

55g of protein for 99p is not bad considering you don’t need to add any fart powders to these recipes. I’d love to make a recipe with less carbs per serving, however it’s nigh on impossible without using whey in the mixture (casein usually brings it’s carby friend ‘Galactose’ along for the ride!)

- water

Don't ask me for it's price, but I'm sure it's below $1.50

8. Tuna & Horseradish Patties – 3 for £0.84/$1.27
(35g protein, 17g carbs, 3.5g fat, 400 kcals)

What you’ll need: 185g/1 tin tuna flakes, 2 eggs, ¼ cup rolled oats, large tablespoon of horseradish sauce, ½ onion, 1 clove garlic, ½ juice of a lemon, pinch of dried mixed herbs, salt & pepper.

Another 5 minute recipe that would make a tasty low carb & low fat snack. Add rice/sweet potato on the side to make this a complete meal.

Over the years, I’ve not found many ways to make a cheap of tuna something to look forward, but this is definitely one of them! The horseradish makes a nice change.

1. Drain the tuna and try to get the flakes as dry as possible. Dice half an onion as fine as you can get it, along with the garlic and add all 3 ingredients into a bowl.

2. Add all of the remaining ingredients and fold/whisk it all together until you get a semi-wet 'omelet mixture'. Heat a regular frying pan with a drop of oil (you don't want the pan too hot) and simply spoon the mixture to form 3 patties in the pan.

3. A few minutes on each side will do, as only the onion and egg need to cook through - be careful they don't stick.

Add spinach, or any small leaf to the mixture for extra goodness & fiber, or serve with rice for a complete meal that's still under $1.50/£1.

Gotta agree with DP here; oats are king when it comes to cheap nutrition.

With milk, oatmeal is a meal in itself.

On another note I made some chocolate & banana pancakes this morning and they were amazing...i'll post up the recipe shortly!

9. ChocBanana Protein Pancakes – 77p/$1
(30g protein, 35g carbs, 20g fat, 440 kcals)

What you’ll need: 1 banana, 4 whole eggs, ½ cup dry oats, level teaspoon cocoa powder (sweetner once cooked if you need it)

This is pretty much the same recipe as the banana pancakes, but I added cocoa this morning and they were THE best 'fitness' food i've eaten for breakfast - I just had to share  8)

1. Simply throw everything in a blender and blitz until smooth and put a small pan on a low heat with a splash of oil/butter/low kcal spray. Pour in around 1/3 of the mixture once the pan’s hot and give it a few minutes on each side until nicely browned.

Sprinkle with sweetner and try to eat them slowly. This would actually make an amazing desert, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!

Cut the yolks for a low fat/lower calories option, or reduce the oats to 1/4 cup to bring it down to around 26g if dieting with low carbs. If you need 600kcals for breakfast, make enough for another pancake!

Should look something like this:

Sounds quick and tasty, i'm guessing microwaved so no mess pretty much either!

I would estimate about 50p for the whey, 40p for 2 packs oats, and 12.5p for the milk so it just gets under a pound  ;D

Brands like quaker kill you for the premixed sachets, but off brand you can get those dirt cheap and they're handy.

As promised!

10. Simple Tuna, Egg & Potato Tapas – £0.99p/$1.50
(45g protein, 17g carbs, 15g fat, 440 kcals)

What you’ll need: 1 tin tuna, 2 whole eggs, 1/4 onion, 2 tomatoes, 1 cup new potatoes (could even use canned), tablespoon white vinegar, tablespoon olive oil, tablespoon lemon juice, 1 clove garlic, salt & pepper.

I first came across this Tapas recipe when we were served it alongside our drinks & fresh bread in Mijas, Spain.
My wife commented on how simple yet delicious it was, and we pretty much worked out the ingredients by taste.
Makes a great lunch to take to work, works well with rice on the side, or even a cheap way to brighten up a dinner party/meal if you have friends over.

1. If you are using fresh potatoes simply boil the potatoes until soft, and the eggs until hard boiled (hard yolks needed) quarter the potatoes and removed the skins and discard, also quarter the eggs and leave both in the bowl/container you are going to eat from.

2. Dice the onion up very small, and cut the tomatoes into eights (small triangle pieces), roughly chop the garlic and add these ingredients into the same bowl as the potatoes & egg.

3. Drain all the water/oil from the tuna until it’s pretty dry and then simply spoon the tuna into the rest of the ingredients and turn in over a few times gently (try not to break up the eggs/potatoes too much).

4. Lastly add the olive oil, white vinegar, and lemon juice along with the salt/pepper and mixed herbs and fold it all together.

5. Leave this mixture at room temperature for an hour for maximum taste! (If you’ve refridgerated overnight – let it warm up to room temp before eating).

This is delicious scooped up with fresh bread!

Should look something like this:

(Eggs: 15 for £1.35 Aldi, Tuna £0.49 Asda, New Potatoes: £0.79 500g Aldi, Lemons: 3 for £0.49 Tesco, Garlic 3 cloves for £0.49 Tesco, Tomatoes: 500g £0.95 Asda, Vinegar: £0.48 per pint Asda)

11. Reeces Style Protein Ice Cream – 90p/$1.36
(42g protein, 17g carbs, 22g fat, 410 kcals)

What you’ll need: 1 tub (300g) low fat cottage cheese, 2 generous tablespoons peanut butter, 1 tablespoon sweetener, 1 teaspoon cocoa powder, 1/4 glass milk

This low fat/low sugar ice cream couldn't be any easier, and makes the ideal night time treat. For those who are not a fan of the taste of cottage cheese, as a protein source, you literally can't make it taste any better than this.

Note: Due to the low fat content, this ice cream becomes very solid if left to freeze too long. I usually check on it a couple of time and when it's solid enough I'll stuff it down right away. If you do freeze it overnight - just take it out for a while and leave to thaw before tucking in. You could add 1 tablespoon of vodka/rum to the mix before freezing, which will keep it soft.

1. Simply throw all of the above ingredients into a blender/small puree blender and blitz until smooth as you can get it.

2. Pour into small container and freeze for around 100-120 mins.

Should look something like this:

(Cottage Cheese: 300g for £0.65 Aldi, PB: £0.62 a jar Sainsbury's, Cocoa: £1.00 a box Asda, Sweetener: £1.00 per jar Aldi)

Coming up: Raspberry Ripple flavour....

12. Raspberry Ripple Protein Ice Cream – 73p/$1.10
(35g protein, 35g carbs, 3g fat, 310 kcals)

What you’ll need: 1 tub (300g) low fat cottage cheese, 1 tablespoon sweetener, 4 drops/1/2 teaspoon vanilla essence, 1 generous tablespoon raspberry jam, 1/4 glass milk.

Again, this low fat/low sugar ice cream is so easy to put together, and makes a refreshing change to the usual night time protein shake.

1. Keep the jam to one side, and throw the rest of the ingredients into a blender/small puree blender - blitz until it's smooth as you can manage.

2. Pour into the container you will use for freezing, then simply scoop a large tablespoon of raspberry jam and swirl it into the mixture (don't mix it, as you won't get any ripples through the ice cream). Freeze for around 100-120 mins.

Should look something like this:

(Cottage Cheese: 300g for £0.65 Aldi, Raspberry Jam: £0.90 jar Sainsbury's, Sweetener: £1.00 per jar Aldi, Vanilla Essence: £1.04 40ml, Tesco)

Enjoy bros!

Why save on foods, why not save on something else, like heating and electricity before the foods of your choices for goodness sake,

priorities

Why make this thread?

Easy. Try googling 'cheap bodybuilding recipes and look at the crap that somes up. Not every 'BB recipe' has to involve 3 scoops of expensive protein added to it. You don't have to eat Tilapia, Salmon, Sushi and Veal 5 times a day to get the nutrition youu need when training/dieting.

Tuna mixed with rice is not a recipe! It's a meal, yes, but it gets damn boring.

If you don't need ideas on how to eat cheaply, don't read the thread. It's been viewed 3000 times, so i'm sure many people have found it useful!

13. Big Mac Pasta – 90p/$1.37
(42g protein, 55g carbs, 28g fat, 640 kcals)

What you’ll need: 150g ground beef, ½ small onion, 75g pasta, 2 slices burger cheese, ½ cup lettuce, 2 tablespoons mayo, 1 tablespoon French dressing, 1 teaspoon ketchup, ½ teaspoon vinegar, ½ teaspoon salt.

Sure, you can buy the real thing for about $3 in MacDonald’s, but where’s the fun in that? Plus, this pasta twist on the original sandwich is easy to put together, with nearly double the protein, and a 1/3 less fat for half the price!

1. Throw the pasta in a pan with boiling water and pinch of salt.

2. While the pasta’s cooking, fry up the ground beef in a pan with a drop of oil, breaking it down as much as you can. While the meat is simmering, chop up half an onion as small as you can get it (the tinier the better!).

3. Drain the excess fat from the cooked beef (rinse also if you prefer less fat) then return to the heat and add the chopped onion, stirring until the onion’s just about cooked.

4. By now your pasta should be cooked, so drain the excess water and leave to one side. Chop up around a cup of lettuce, nice thin strips just like the bistro chefs at Mcd’s. Also cut your 2 burger cheese slices into small squares.

5. To make the ‘Big Mac Sauce’ simple mix the mayo, French dressing, vinegar, ketchup and salt in a small cup and keep to one side also.

6. Chuck the cooked pasta in a bowl and stir in the ground beef. Throw the cheese squares in and give it a stir, then microwave for 30 seconds to melt the cheese.

7. Sprinkle the lettuce on top, douse in your own homemade Big Mac Sauce, and enjoy!

Great find deadpan - my sister does something similar with her UK website!

What i've found with many 'budget recipes' online, (part of the inspiration for this thread actually) is that the protein content is very low, to keep the prices down. Also, if you're not training, you probably wouldn't consider this, hence why i've been trying to keep the content at/around 50g per serving - without powders!!!

yup. but you can find relatively cheap sources of protein if you look around and get bogos and stuff like that. some of my favorites are chicken breasts (frozen or fresh), ground turkey and eggs. eggs especially, can get like 18 of them for 2-3 dollars, somewhere around 120 grams of total protein, hard to beat. and you can usually just add those to most recipes without really messing it up.

Please shut the fuck up.

i second this

The man now has free burgers in any joint in the town! If that were me, i'd plan my 3 meals a day on a map haha
