Title: Baked on crap
Post by: Butterbean on June 20, 2013, 07:51:04 AM
Have you ever thrown out a pan because the baked on crap was just not coming off over a few days?

Doesn't Dawn make a baked on crap remover product?

It was glass!  You'd think that wouldn't be such a problem.  I haven't tried baking soda and vinegar before.  ~Equal parts?

More of a very wet slurry.  Let it sit and soak.  When it's happened to me in a fry pan, dutch oven, le creuset, etc. I've heated it up to a bare simmer (a little water too), turned off the heat and let it sit overnight.  It turns into a hard crust, but then just washes away with very little elbow grease.  If it's up the edges, it might be more difficult.  In that case, I'd try making a wet pumice of vinegar and baking soda and scrub with a dish rag.  Bar Keepers Friend might be another option.  I've also heard letting it soak in warm water with a dryer sheet works wonders.

If you watched your stove more carefully and turned off the tv/logged off of getbig, this problem wouldn't present itself.   >:(

I thought Canada prided itself on the literacy of its residents...

Hi Butterbean, I hope you got that pan clean!
I agree with Princess L that soda work best. I mix a handfull of soda with boiling hot water and let the pot simmer on the stove. When caked on crap is near te edges of the pan I just fill the sink with hot water and soda and let the pot soak overnight.

But please: never use soda on aluminium! It causes corrosion, and you can definitely throw the aluminium pot.

We do. However I wasn't about to go wading through 14 pages to find your name.
I simply looked at the pinned thread titled "List of Approved Posters" which lists them alphabetically.
As you will see, the username: "Chadwick The Beta" is nowhere to be found. I guess Butterbean didn't add it at the time.

dont recoil in horror but
leaving it outside under a bush allows snails (particularly the Kerry Slug)  to do a great ecological job
