Title: Describe the first muscle and fitness article you remember reading
Post by: Army of One on July 24, 2013, 06:27:40 AM
Mine was 'Don Long On Triceps', which was Don Long describing how I too could get monster triceps if I ate 12 meals a day and did 35 sets on them.I also learned that Don loves children and animals, is actively involved in charity work, believes in firm family values and looks down on guys who take the shortcuts with drugs.

Mine was a was delt training with Matarazzo.

I remember this pic of Matarazzo in an ad for a Weider product in the same issue. He's got his arms out wide around two girls, wearning this black t-shirt, big old arms hanging out, and he looked like a total boss. I immediately went to the library and combed through every old issue of M&F they had trying to find out everything about how he trained so I could be just like him.

I still remember my first split, which was a copy cat of Matarazzo's split that was in M&F:

Monday: Chest
Tuesday: Delts
Wednesday: Back
Thursday: Legs
Friday: arms
weekend: rest, so your arms can fill out

Every workout was four or five exercises per bodypart, for 4 to 6 sets, failure on last two sets at 6 reps, first two  to four sets done to warm-up with 12 to 10 reps.

God, those were the good old days. I remember the day I put his picture up on my closet door. My dad was not impressed with his 13 year old son and started talking to me about the benefits of dating girls.

"Gals"? What a fucking joke. Two real heros. Why don't you intellectuals submit your "book" to a publishing company and see if it gets picked up? Or self publish it and put it on Amazon and see how many copies it sells after your parents buy a dozen or so of them? Fucking clown.

For a 'man' who allegedly is successful in life, has no money worries/drives a nice car/is in shape etc - one has to wonder why he esteems himself mainly on numbers of replies to his threads?

I would hazard a guess that apart from hanging onto galineko's anal hair for the fame, noone is type of 'guy' who searches for the pot of gold at the end of a black mans penis bigmc.

Some silly article about how eating tons of calories/carbs is absolutely necessary for a pump and muscle size.

IMO, there is more useful info in the older BBing mags from the 70's and early 80's.

Many articles in BBing mags are garbage... nothing but junk/bro science written by someone getting a kick-back from a supplement company.

Well young.. I saw a great 20 year old chick in my gym, but fuck.. I could have been her dad  :-[ :P
It prob wasn't the very first article, but Kevin's picture made a huge impact on me. It was from an issue from the early nineties, when I started lifting. Back then, M&F was a decent magazine, but Ironman Europe will be my lifetime favorite. I remember that I swapped an Italian version for a Dutch one with my gym owner, who was Italian, so that was a win-win.

I still remember the first 3 articles -

My friend had a stack of them in a crate that I'd paw through when I was bored -

1) It was  Titus / Prince article on their rivalry, etc.... Daisy Dukes aplenty. I remember how gay it looked, two men pointing and touching each other with smug looks and greasy bodies -

2) Muscle Mag swimsuit issue - Not sure of the year, but I remember Marla Duncan was all through it.

3) Muscle Media 2000 - Poliquin had a Hamstring article that was quite good. The thing I remember most was my friend's older brother stopping looking at Danny Hester (left) , and telling us that if you went to GNC, bought protein powder, and spent a good year or two in the gym non-stop, you could look like that. He then mentioned that one of these days he'd do just that  :).

dont remember which was absolutely first, but two come to mind...

a flex wheeler article, might have been a general training aone or just back, what i remember is him talking about using more than 'granny wieght' and at least 10 reps a set, and starting to do more movements underhand because 'thats how the king (dorian) does em'

it was that or a mike francois triceps article, again the only thing i remember was how said how adding one hand overhead extensions had help bring up his triceps.
