Were that the case, ...there wouldn't have been the need to ban it then.
Why would you make something illegal if it were not effective.
The fact that is was indeed very successful was established in movie theatres.

There was an early study that suggested flashing "Drink Coca~Cola" was effective in increasing sales of that
product in movie theaters, which has been since discredited. There are no rigorous double-blind studies showing it works, and it is not illegal in the USA. There is no ban.

Many other countries had sense enough to ban it.
