Title: Photographers … what camera do u use??
Post by: aliamini on December 26, 2005, 02:15:59 AM
Dear Photographers,

What model camera do u use (brand and model number)

I wanna buy a good camera with optical zoom instead of the normal one that I have (4MP and digital zoom, no stabilizer) so all the experts out there post your recommendations

I liked ALBERT BUSEK’s camera (Vice President, Europe)

He'll need a camera that will be able to circumvent our pithy American steroid tests.

i have a Sony DSC-717.  It takes great pics.  I've had the expensive ones too but nowadays you don't need to spend that much.  I think when I bought this one it was around $700 or so.

I use Canon 1D's, 1DMK 2, 1DS MK2. Contax 645 with Aptus 22 Back.

I'd second Milos with his choice of the 20D

Went looking for that Canon D-20 today, but failed to find one. Could it possibly be the SD-20? If so, why do you make the claim that it is a great camera?

In my humble opinion it is the lens used for bodybuilding photography that is more important than the camera itself.

I am not a camera pro but I do notice that some lens that the pros use can get the whole body in the shot from head to toe without appearing to be too far away from the subject. Can any experts comment on that?

ANd.... can anyone refer me to a good digital still camera that will also allow me to shoot quality video on one of those chips that you stick inside the unit? I'm hope to find one of those cameras that will allow me to shoot about 15 minutes or more of high quality video and sound on a memory card. Does such a camera even exist?

ANd ...... Optical zoom/digital zoom..... what is the difference?

And .....   How many megapixels do you need to have decent photos. I have been told a minimum of 5 megs for a still camera but have no idea how many for video footage.

ANy experts out there?

Just make sure you don't buy the same camera Flexonline uses.

You're wrong to blaim the camera. It would be operator error.

It's a tough choice, just because there is a lot of info out there.

I'm sort of between the new Rebel XT and the Nikon D50.

The Canon 20 is supposed to be great but might be too much camera for a novice.

In my humble opinion it is the lens used for bodybuilding photography that is more important than the camera itself.
Well, the lense has always been the most important part for sharpness,,,  but better cameras tend to have better lenses available. Also keep in mind that most high end photographers use medium or large format film which gives a sharpness that 35mm film or any current digital  just isn't capable of.

I am not a camera pro but I do notice that some lens that the pros use can get the whole body in the shot from head to toe without appearing to be too far away from the subject. Can any experts comment on that?
It's called a wide angle lense,,,  you can be very close and get the whole body with a large depth of field.
typically used for landscape photography though..

ANd ...... Optical zoom/digital zoom..... what is the difference?
Optical is a real zoom using the cameras lense,,  digital is an automatic crop which is completely worthless,,,  it's really a scam...

And .....   How many megapixels do you need to have decent photos. I have been told a minimum of 5 megs for a still camera but have no idea how many for video footage.
Totally depends on the print size,,,  5 megapixel will give you great 8x10's but shitty 16x20's,,,  Since a 16x20 is four times bigger than an 8x10 you need four times the information..

ANy experts out there?

Canon 20D is what you are looking for not, the D20.

We use Canon gear ourselves for the contest stuff.  1D in it's various progressions and 10D/20D for backups.

Most of the time though it's not so much the camera as the photographer.

Mine has a lens. Go with a digital. No lens to screw up!
