Title: Do you have a problem with consumer data mining & specific marketing?
Post by: 240 is Back on September 25, 2013, 06:50:47 AM
I meant to post this yesterday... I was listening to Beck, and he was complaining that all these major companies are working to get as much data on us as possible so they can deliver to us exact market offerings - the products and services we want - and be able to market them to us effectively.

it's not about gun control, or locking us up in camps, or forcing us to eat school lunches.  Bill gates and all these companies want to be able to have our computer, TV, smart phone, car dashboard, and everything else around us, deliver completely customized advertisements so that we can spend our money in a manner which matches our tastes.

If this is the case (a big assumption, I know) - Do you have a problem with it?  Instead of putting up billboards, they're spending billions to be able to offer you new shoes the minute you have a hole in yours, new guitar string ads the moment you break an E string, and a McDonalds commercial the moment your belly growls.  When your eyes start to sag a little, a starbucks ad appears.

Do you have a problem with this?  And if so, why?  You don't have to turn on the TV or radio or smartphone.  And if you choose to, you don't have to buy anything they show you.  If there's some bigger ulterior motive for this info, I can see being against it.  But IF the goal is just consumerism - offer us the 5 things we might buy each day the moment we open our eyes and check our phone in the morning... What's the problem with it?   (No trolling, serious Q)
