which famous bodybuilder shook adolf hitler's hand at the 1936 olympics??????  and no it wasn't arnold schwa.....zzer.

you got it monty, grinek told this to bill pearl slightly before jcg died. he came in 9 th among the heavyweights that year. tony terlazzo was the the only american to win a gold that year. i actually met his brother john terlazzo several times when i bought equipment at the york barbell factory[he waited on me] in the mid 60's that's 1960's of course.

Yup, results in Strength & Health mag:

Oct 1936 p 32 @ olympic lifting 253- 231- 302.5-= 786.5 for a 9th place finish in the heavywt class which had 13 competitors.

thanks joe saves me looking it up.  i'm not sure but didn't josef manger win the class.[not sure will check.

I recalled Grimek being an Olympian then, but never knew about the handshake deal. I don't even know much about history; this just happened to be one of the random facts floating around in my barren head!

I remember an interview where Grimek said he expected to be in the light heavy weight category for the Olympics. They had a crazy rule back then if you competed in a heavier category you couldn't go back to the lighter one. He would have won Gold.
