Title: The last time the Republicans won a prez election without a Bush on ticket...
Post by: 240 is Back on July 19, 2014, 10:37:19 PM
The last time the Republicans won a presidential election without a Bush on the ticket was Nixon/Agnew in 1972 (DU).

Is the RNC practically BEGGING Jeb to run in 2016?

Good idea. Jeb should run.  ;D

Bushes are 5-1 when on the ticket.

And it'd be 6-0, except for Perot grabbing 18% of the popular vote in 92 (with a lot of that bein pro-capitalist, fiscally responsible vote which clinton sure wasn't getting)

Jeb would win it.  Some say he's not running due to the financial disclosure stuff... he's no romney, but he's become extremely wealthy since 2007.   Would be a whole lot of explaining his dealings with mid east countries, etc.

but if he ran, he'd be impossible to beat in the primaries.

As Jeb Bush eyes 2016, key question is how a presidential campaign would affect his family

Jeb Bush, 61, has acknowledged that he is thinking about running, indicating he will make a decision later this year. He has repeatedly said he will decide based on whether he believes he can run an optimistic, hopeful campaign — run “joyfully,” as he has put it — as well as whether a campaign would be the right thing for his family.
Jeb Bush can trace some of his most appealing qualities as a potential presidential candidate for a diversifying electorate to his 40-year partnership with his Mexican-born wife, Columba.

The couple speak Spanish to one another, and their lives have been immersed in Hispanic culture and the immigrant experience.

But Columba’s intense distaste for the public arena is one of the issues weighing most heavily on the former Florida governor as he grapples with whether to run for the White House in 2016, according to interviews with friends, former staffers and GOP donors close to the family. These people said Columba may be willing to take on the burdens of a campaign, yet even then the couple would need to find a way to craft a comfortable role for her.

Honestly, Jeb looks like a guy who is ready to retire and relax and enjoy himself after a lifetime of hard work.

He is the best hope the GOP has, however.

Gore was the best hope for the dems back in 2004... they were begging him to run.  He chose the dollar ;)

Former vice president Al Gore had a net worth of about $1.7 million at the turn of the century and 13 years later, his wealth has grown to more than $200 million.

Not sure if serious, or if this is some of your "cutler training for the olympia" style trolling.

Well if Jeb decides to take it easy and not run, there is always Chris Christi waiting to throw his hat in the ring. Of course crooked Chris could get side tracked by the Federal investigation into what may have been illegal activities, not uncommon to certain connected people in New Jersey. His style has been compared to that of some of the characters in the television show The Sopranos. Seems the jury is out on whether he all but shut down the George Washington Bridge. For more, go to: http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/07/17/us-usa-politics-christie-idUSKBN0FM17720140717. One thing for sure is that if elected, Chis Christi will be the largest President we'd had, just like he was the biggest Governor in the country.

Christie is a MAJOR liberal.

If Christie wins the nomination in 2016, Democrats might just celebrate.  I'm not sure all that much will change.

Christie is on record as believing in global warming and, more specifically, that it is man made.  He can NEVER escape this position with base voters.  Ever.  Christie Agrees with Obama

Christie clearly opposes offshore drilling off the coast on New Jersey.   Repubs want to drill, baby, drill!  Christie Agrees with Obama

Christie has stood with Obama’s EPA- arguably one of the most liberally radical federal agencies- in opposing construction of a new power plant in eastern Pennsylvania.   He hates coal.  HATES COAL!!!!  Christie Agrees with Obama

Abortion issue?  Christie has donated $ to Planned Parenthood.  Christie has since changed his position, but that may be hard to sell to base voters.... suddenly he's a flipflopper?  Compared to lifelong pro-life candidates like Rand, no contest

Foreign intervention?  lol, obama all the way: We ARE the leader in Libya; we MUST be the world's police.  Christie Agrees with Obama

Guns?  No right-to-carry cross-state reciprocity. (Jun 2012) - Favors gun control measures from law-enforcement perspective  Christie Agrees with Obama

Christie was notoriously soft on illegal immigrants, and called it a federal problem.  That's right, he wants the govt to handle it.  Christie Agrees with Obama

NJ Govt has ballooned under Christie - He's not a small govt guy.  Christie Agrees with Obama

Christie has completely capitulated to a federal, Obama-supported educational policy... NCLB all the way, baby!   Christie Agrees with Obama

Chris Christie a liberal? Not so fast!

Consider this: Planned Parenthood clinics have solely closed because of Christie (he has rejected state funding five times). New Jersey is one of two states in the entire northeast without gay marriage (he vetoed a gay marriage bill). And the minimum wage remains $7.25 an hour (he punted to voters, who will decide in November whether to raise it).

Christie has cut business taxes and provided $2.1bn in subsidies and grants for corporations. By refusing to continue a so-called millionaire's tax, he kept taxes down for the wealthy. And by cutting the Earned Income Tax Credit, he effectively raised taxes on the working poor.

He has demonized public employee unions, forcing teachers, cops and public workers to pay more for health benefits and pension contributions. Despite one of the toughest teachers' unions in the nation, he has succeeded in getting through several "education reform" measures – like charter school expansion, merit pay and tenure tied to performance instead of seniority. He pulled out of a major project that would have boosted public transportation, and a multi-state treaty that sought to limit carbon emissions.

When you drill down into it, the real reasons for Christie distrust on the right is more about rhetoric and optics than substance and policy.

Republicans could soon have to decide whether that's more important than this: Christie ties with Hillary Clinton in polls of general election voters. Conservative or RINO, Obama-loving or Obama-hating, no other Republican in America can boast that.

Yes, Christie has shifted to the Right in order to try to win the 2016 nomination... but his record before he decided to possibly run for prez was pretty doggone liberal.

He's like Romney... people STILL don't know what romney would have done as president. He called himself "severely conservative" after signing gun bill and all sorts of other liberal shit.  Base didn't trust him, moderates split for obama.  At least with obama, people KNOW what they are getting - a big fat liberal.  But romney/christie?  They have no idea.

Here he is compared to Bush.

"Mr. Christie’s strategy of bipartisanship and outreach deliberately echoed that of another Republican governor who seized the White House after eight years of Democratic control: George W. Bush." http://www.nytimes.com/2013/11/06/nyregion/chris-christie-re-elected-governor-of-new-jersey.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0

Looks like he could be a force to be reckoned with, depending on how the Federal investigation into some of he questionable tactics turns out.
