I was just thinking about this on my way to work this morning. Wrestlers used to be something of a spectacle; not anymore.
Terry Szopinski was still a pretty big dude last I saw him.

Warlord is still jacked.

He mentioned his diet in an interview not too long ago, but I can't find the stupid link!

Hellwig was the first.
Hogan was big, but had ZERO conditioning compared to UW. There were other guys as big, or bigger...there were other guys as ripped, or more ripped...but, Ultimate Jim was the first to deliver that much of the combination.
Vince used to favor the big guys for his company. Now, a large percentage of them is average-sized adults. Combine that with the fact that they're all trained the same way and handed scripts with what to say and do, it's easy to understand why there is such little interest in the product.

Watch the UW DVD or on Netflix, When he first started with Sting, he was truly jacked, tremendous lats.....TBH Luger, who came in earlier than Warrior may have been the first conditioned wrestler

Good call!
Luger always displayed good-to-excellent conditioning. He also carried a good amount of muscle many times throughout his career.

Hellwig was among the first, but I don't think anyone would argue that Scotty was the most impressive!
-
I agree..
When Scott joined nwo and became big poppa pump..
He was a genetic freak.. just a freak of nature..
Saw him at a nitro show.. the guy looked like one of those cartoons..
I think it was called muscle heads... just unreal..

A shame how torn up his body has become. Logically, he couldn't stay at his peak forever, but he's a shadow of his former self today. And oddly, becoming very covered in ink.

let's not forget the original.

The man of the hour, he's too sweet to be sour...
He eats T-bone steaks and lifts barbell plates!
I marked out pretty hard for Triple H and his physique when he returned from his quad tear. He wasas "agile" while carrying the extra muscle, but he LOOKED awesome.

How about the Great Khali years ago when he could still move somewhat?

Absolutely, bring back the freaks! This is Getbig, isn't that one of the reasons we all came here in the first place.
-
kevin nash always said ,'the people want to see the freaks'.
Yep.
Nash hated guys like Benoit & Guerrerro. Said they would never draw. Dumb-f*ck.

The 80s probably saw the most oversized wrestlers. With Hogan as a baby face champ, you couldn't have him always going against smaller guys. So, you had Earthquake, Big John Studd & One Man Gang et al.

They're on the the mountain top with the genetic freak, reaching nirvana, and calling him the big bad booty daddy.
