Title: Yankees lost. I'm done with them for the season.
Post by: Royalty on August 19, 2014, 07:59:26 PM
The Baltimore Orioles won their game.

And the Yankees lost their game with the Astros (one of the worst teams in MLB).

I'm done. I'm gonna just focus on the NFL season.

The division was never really in question. It's been that way for like a month.  :-\

Robertson was due for one of these. It's ALWAYS an adventure when he takes the mound. Mo spoiled us.

Think the airstrikes/beheading had something to do with the metal detectors? Why now.

the Yankees payroll this season is over 220 million (and that doesn't include the lucky salary break they got with the Arod suspension) ... epic bang for their buck haha

meanwhile, the Orioles will be in the playoffs at 110 million; the A's and the Royals both are at 90 million; and the Mariners could very well make it to the post season at 95 million ...

maybe the answer isn't just throwing money around at whoever happens to be available at any given time?

I'm still gonna root for them. But I am giving up on their season this year. It's not gonna happen for the Yankees in 2014.

A-Rod is one of the worst things that happened to the Yankees. I'm glad Steinbrenner outbid the Sox in '04.

There have been quite a few revelations. Most notably Betances. Shane Greene has been a nice surprise. Robertson raises the bp but you can't ask more from your closer. Twatnaka has earned his pay when he's out there and the montero-pineda deal looks like highway robbery for the yanks at this point.

don't worry Yankee fans, next year you can add Scherzer, Lester & Shields to your starting rotation with Tanaka ... and then the following year add Price, Cueto & Samardzija ...

it's only money.

a quarter of a billion dollars for a mediocre .500 ballclub?  ???

maybe the Yankees should up their payroll to half a billion in the off-season?  :-\

Potentially missing the playoffs for only the second time in 19 years doesn't really support your argument.

The three teams you mention have been wildly unsuccessful over that time period.   Every now and then a team will get there, but NY has done it consistently since the mid 90s.

Have there been some bad contracts?  Of course.  But there's also been more games won, division titles, playoff wins, and WS than anyone during that time as well.

a quarter of a billion last season and another quarter of a billion this season for mediocrity in what's now a weak division ...  :-\

Made money last season and will again.  It's a business, and the Yankees have 60-70 million riding just on making the playoffs alone.  So they won't let themselves go into a full rebuild for that very reason.  It's bound to hurt them a bit here and there.
