He's not as bulky as the top guys, but he has NO gut at all. I suspect no gh used here!

This is the type of physique I would aim for.

Richard Jones has no shot at ever becoming top 5 in the sport.  If he has any aspirations of getting up there, he'd better start with the growth and extend his gut a good 8 inches.  Keep trying Richard, I have faith.

Croatch is just being realistic...he's right too ;)

David Henry hasn't placed in top five at the Olympia, and if you think Dexter's not on GH...well  ::)

No I'm not blind to  the GH factor, but I'm saying from how small they were and how big they are now, I think Richard and phil should be able to do the same, with wich I think are superior physiques.

Yeah I agree.  I hope he does well too, and grows "smartly." ;D  I used to have hope for Victor Martinez, then he had to go and ruin his physique.  From the side, Jones' legs look good...but from the front? ???

Face it, IFBB loves roid/gh gut.  Unless you have one of these, you're not touching top 3.  As much as I like Gustavo, I seem him work out and his gut is atrocious.  These guys are huge as well, but the guts are really something to marvel at.  Gustavo has one of the smaller waists amongst the heavy hitters too.

Hey GetBig peeps,
YES.....I am going to compete again SOON! I have been training extremely heavy with super strict form and doing more isolation movements but HEAVY! I cut down on my excercises and added a bit more to the ones I need most.
For example, I might do 10-12 sets of leg presses and just one-legged extensions mixing up my foot position. (Toes in, toes out, toes straight, etc....) Other days, I might just do dead lifts and close grip lat pulldowns and I'm out! I'm even doing lunges and specific glute excercises. I want that "tie-in" to be sick when I shed the BF%.
In addition to my training, I am working with a UFC fighter hired specifically for my stretching. His nickname is the "rubberband man". For those of you that know what PNF stands for, that's the system that we are using and it is expanding my muscle cell capacity through enlongating them. It's hard to explain and works well with track athletes and basketball players. I am doing Xtreme Martial Arts as well. Along with CQB shooting 5 days a week. My days are long and mental fatigue sets in. But I am having fun.
But when I get back on stage, you WON'T see a new 'Richard Jones', but an improved one. My waist has not gone up at all and my stomach is flat. My calories are high right now and EVERYTHING hurts on my body from all of the things I do on a weekly basis.
I can't believe you guys don't like the "Fro"...? I was gonna go with a Jackson 5. But what you see in the pics (which are old 2004) is only a Jackson 1. So, I guess my fans don't like the "Ben Wallace" look. LOL.... It's not like that now.
Here is a pic that was recently taken:
You know I luv ya all. No matter what is said. I'm gonna still do my thang!
Sincerely,
Richard Jones

Hey 240, congrats man on the MBA! I commend you for that achievment.
I'll ref the match, but the "240 Tattoo has to go on the loser's ass cheek to represent "da ass whoopin' ". Deal...? How much do refs get paid anyway? If there are rules, then find a new ref. I like to get down and dirty.
So, what does the winner get?

Thanks Kaylos!

Shawn was in a class of his own. I am not in that class. He made his mark in history and in my early years, his physique was the one that gave me the inspiration as it did to many others around the world.

But as time has passed, I have been inspired by the likes of Dexter Jackson, Troy Alves, Lee Priest, Melvin Anthony, Darrem Charles, Mark Dugdale, Phil Heath, etc..... just to mention a few. They will all make their respective mark in history.

By the way, congrats to Lee Priest for winning the 2006 Pro Ironman. He looked awesome. I would also like to give 'mad props' to Dave Henry and mark Dugdale for displaying near perfect packages. Job well done fellas. Seeing them make their mark, gives me new inspiration and drive.

Carpe Diem!

Sincerely with respect,

Richard Jones

Thanks Blaster.....but I don't "hate" on anyone. But dude looks like Titus.
I haven't seen Dexter's DVD and just minimal training footage. I really didn't pay much attention to his midsection. I just was amazed at how much muscle he has stuffed in that super tight skin. I'm a fan of Dex, so I might be a bit biased. But the guy has an amazing physique and I can't wait til I see him at the Arnold defending his title against the likes of Gustavo, Melvin, Lee, Victor, etc...... It will be a great show and tough line up.
The anticipation builds as the days count down to the Arnold. They're all champions in my book.
Best Wishes!
Sincerely,
Richard Jones

Hopefully it won't be long before we see u up there on stage with them!

I just showed ur pics to my girl and the first thing she said was u have a tiny waist. There's gotta be a way to put on a bit more mass without the gh. I know u probably can't say, but I'm willing to bet u don't touch the stuff.

Title: Re: Richard Jones Looking Good.
Post by: Richard Jones on February 22, 2006, 01:20:21 AM
so rich are you perhaps looking into a career in mma? ???
No....I just enjoy doing it. On a weekly basis, I get twisted up by dudes half my size and I just keep coming back for more. That Gracie stuff ain't no joke. Then, I'm off to tactical CQB shooting and anti-terrorism scenarios with some good buddies of mine. We shoot shotguns as well, so that is more punishment (pistol grip) on my wrists. But I'll tell ya......this stuff is NOT easy. Everything on my body hurts everyday from the stuff I do. Today wasn't so bad because I only had tactical handgun training with the new Springfield XD-9. That's why I am able to type and respond to you guys. But tomorrow, I will train legs, get twisted up after that, them off to the range later on that night for some low light scenarios. Fun, fun, fun...... I do enjoy it though.
But no interest in fighting professionally. I'm light years behind those guys, but light years ahead of someone without experience. I've always loved martial arts.
Gotta get some rest. I have a "pain-filled" day tomorrow.
Tylenol PM and I'm OUT!
Sincerely,
Richard Jones

Blaster, to be completely honest......I don't! I've done extensive research and I made the executive decision to not do it. I may never get that "greater edge", but I have the same waist size as I had my first year in college in 1993. It has gotten me this far so......it's just my choice.

Ok.....I really do have to go. I'll see how my body feels tomorrow and I'll log back on and answer questions and so on. If I don't, then that means I'm soaking in a hot bath with an ice pack on my forehead! LOL....

Sincerely with honesty,

Richard Jones

Richard Jones looks better than everyone when he is just sitting there by himself, but as SOON as you compare him to someone else.. there is no hope for him he will look like  a little kid he is just wayyy too underdeveloped to do anything to any of the top pros. Hes like shawn ray, looks great standing alone, compare him to someone else who is more developed and he goes down the shitter. The thing is if you were to compare Richard Jones to an already smaller pro like Shawn, Richard is TINY still he just cant stack up against anyone.
[/quote]

You can't be serious! Shawn may not be a mass monster but he was top 5 in the world for 13 straight olympias. He looks great standing by himself and can hold has own next to Levrone, Flex, Dorian, Ronnie, etc.... And he does'nt look like shit either compared to them.

I also hope this convinces you (and other pros) that getbig can be civil when it wants to be.  Certainly its very hard for anybody to be an idiot when faced with such a polite target.

Yeah, you'd think they'd be angrier, being short and all.  but they're usually quite happy.  Must be their ability to look a woman in the crotch constantly and not get slapped for it.

Shawn held his own in his time. I always thought he had one of the best bods, as does Rich. Not the largest, but the most realistic. Personally, if putting on that much mass meant getting a gh gut, then I wouldn't do it either.

What else does Rich do? Is he a cop or something like Ronnie was? His life sounds busy, but fun. I wish I got paid to do weights and run around kicking asses and shotting guns!  ;D

Thank you all for the kind responses and respect. Even though I don't know any of you personally, I still feel compelled to try and anwser each person directly. If they give respect, I will certainly return that. After all, this IS a "Freedom of Speech" board. I have to respect the opinions whether good or bad. Somethings I understand, some I don't care for. A sense of humor always helps.

As far as what show I am competing in....will be announced a bit later on. But you WILL see me again in rare form. I'm not the type of guy who makes predictions or stuff like that. I just do my work and let the results of that take me where they will. I find no need to "boost" myself or how good I am going to look and all that. Things can happen unexpectedly that might impeed my training thus inhibiting my progress. So, I just play it safe and try not to live too close to the edge.....LOL! But you DO have to live your life as you wish to enjoy what you are doing. For me that invovles a variety of things. For others, they may isolate themselves to just one thing. But if they are happy, then all be fine. It's when you're not is when you must change something. I love bodybuilding but I also enjoy other aspects of life as well. I train because I want to, not because I have to.

Oh, by the way....I have been getting a lot of PM's here asking me about my website. My webmaster and I are building it as we speak. We're going to be working on it all week to get it up and running and to add some "Flava" to it so it's not so insipid.

For those of you that have not checked out the intro, you can see it at:

www.richardjonesusa.com

As I said, we are building it, but I want to build it around the fans perspective in addition to mine. So before I put it up in a week or sooner, give me some feed back.

I'll accept the "GOOD, THE BAD and THE UGLY". Keep in mind.....it's for your viewing so opinionate as you wish.
Ok, I'm off to do legs before I get twisted up and my limbs pulled in ever direction possible. I'll be back on before I go to the range tonight.

Thanks to you all.

U.S. Soldiers will NEVER be forgotten!

Peace in the Middle East!

Carpe Diem!

Sincerely,

Richard Jones

Keep "going to work". I think we have a new Mr. O on the horizon. You will always have numerous fans because you don't take the same health risks other Pros do. Your #1 in my book.

Title: Re: Richard Jones Looking Good.
Post by: Richard Jones on February 22, 2006, 03:59:57 PM
Alright....I'm back and a bit fatigued from legs and those Gracie freaks that love twisting me up. No worries, I get mine! Believe that! I try not to let them catch me with the same move twice. But sometimes, I find myself in the same position with my elbow about to be popped before I know it. It pisses me off. But each week, they're more on their toes when we get on the mat. Today was a high rep day for me for legs 50+ reps. Nothing heavy to talk about. But the burn set in rather quick. Now I'm home chompin' on some Salmon, rice and veggies. Been on a 'fish' kick lately.

Bostonsliced.....is that the "Steve" that I think it is? If so, then you need to PM me and give me your info so we can get caught up. What small world. I don't even remember that pic! I still do those by the way.

Rufjunk.....thanks! That's a HUGE compliment. I would love to be Mr. O someday, but I do NOT and WILL NOT risk my health in pursuit of that coveted Sandow. That's just me though. Others may see it different and I respect that as they do my outlook. I had the same outlook when I was a cop. Safety always came first because I wanted to go home every night at the end of my shift as well as see the light of the next day. I know sometimes you have to take risks and/or are faced with them with little or no options. But as far as bodybuilding, my health comes first, nutrition is tied with first, training is second and everything else takes a number as I see fit.

Jeffrey, HELL YES I find it hard to recover from all I do. But my body and mind just get used to it and I really don't think about being tired when I'm training, doing XMA, and especially when I have a loaded weapon in my hand. No time for the mind to fail. When my brain fatigues and I know I still have to complete my day, it allows me to reach deeper in my gut to complete the mission. We do live fire with real guns and real ammo and real-life scenarios and you are forced to make critical decisions in a nanosecond. I work with a team, so their lives depend on me as well as mine depends on them. I don't have time to think about how tired I am, what I've done during the day, or what hurts on my body. But some nights, we just do drills on rescueing hostages. Mostly, we kill or be killed.

And finally....240! You're right....I do stay clear of "chicks with trouser snakes"!!! LOL.... you're sick!

I'll post some pics (if they allow me to take photos) from the shooting stuff and the XMA. But don't laugh if you see me twisted in a pretzel by some dude that is 160lbs. These dudes are no joke! I've watch them go full speed all out and dudes were just dropping like he was exterminating roaches.

Sincerely,

Richard Jones

One thing I don't get, Rich, is why a guy of ur size is worrying about BJJ? Yes, it's good in the ring, but in a real life situation, if a guy takes u down, ur gonna elbow him in the back, head, whatever.

Do u do it just for the sport?

My mate tried some of it on me, and I reversed him and got on top. I then had the opportunity to pound his face to a pulp, but I told him we should stop before we hurt each other too bad.

I'm starting kick boxing next week. I'd rather try and stop it from going to the ground.

Jeffrey, this guy I study with studied directly under the Gracie family. Out of respect for him, I'll ask his permission to give out his name if he doesn't mind. But he has been studying since the early 90's. He's unreal though. He has some good size too. He weight trains as well. Of course not like a "bodybuilder". Even his girl is pretty skilled. I've watched her twist people up.

Blaster, 90% of fights end up on the ground. You can't throw effective punches when you're rolling around on the ground. As I said before, I'm also doing XMA not just BJJ. XMA involves a series of strikes and aerial moves and kicks. Being on the ground puts the best "street fighters" at a grave disadvantage. I don't know about you, but in the event that I go to the ground in a fight, I'd rather pop your elbow, wrist and shoulder out of it's socket in 5-7 seconds than spending energy trying to get up or out of a hold. Don't you watch ANY of the Gracie's fight? Ken Shamrock......great straight up striker and a very skilled ground figther=UFC Championships. I don't even have to mention the Gracie family....do I?

Good luck if you end up on the ground and some dude has skills........TAP OUT!

Bostonsliced.....now I remember! What is up? I'm runnin' late so I get back at you L8R. Hope all is well.

Oh, by the way, I do it because I enjoy it. I'm not trying to get into the "ring". But it's a great skill to possess. Especially when you're fighting Close Quarters. I'd rather take you down and choke you out within seconds before you know what hit you. Everything I do coincides with each other. As I said, we do real life scenarios that involve "mano e mano" (hand to hand) combat. Not every scenario invovles the suspects having guns. Then what...? Shoot him anyway? You have to resort to "CQB" baby CQB!

My nickname is PONDORO! If you can figure that out, let me know!

1. Yeah, my mate is a beginner. I have no BJJ experience. But if it goes to the ground, I'm gonna throw a head butt before trying an arm lock, that's all I meant.

2. Yeah, I have a few MMA DVDS and I like Shamrock. He seems like a nice guy and not a tool like Tito (I know this is old news). It's just in my experience in bar work and door work, it only takes one punch to end a fight. I also got told this by a juijitsu teacher who told me there's no point rolling around on the ground if the dude's mate is gonna kick the shit outta me. I have another mate who has entered comps for BJJ and everyone says how good he is, but I reckon I'd knock him out easy (don't wanna sound like a wanker here) cause he's half my weight and not as tall as me (6'4"). I'll stick to my kick boxing and go from there. That's why it's called MMA. I just thought a big strong guy would be better at boxing and strength work.

People who study Brazilian Jui-jitsu are morons. Why would you study a fighting style that only works in one country? I got jumped by a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt in Venezuela and his moves were useless thanks to my Venezuelan Vale Tudo skills. Of course, if we fought in Argentina it would have been close.

Richard,

I didn’t open this thread before because I thought it was going to be a typical thread with some of the trolls here bashing a great Pro. I’m happy to see that has been kept to a minimum. I was pleasantly surprised to see you posting.

It’s great to see a modern Pro with the classic lines and the great aesthetics of the ironage of bodybuilding aka Vince Taylor, Bob Paris, Rory Leidelmeyer, Berry DeMey, Shawn Ray. It’s also great to read your unrelenting positive attitude. A great reminder to us all. You are a great ambassador for bodybuilding. I’m also glad to hear that you won’t sacrifice your health for a title.

Regarding close grip inclines, I’ve used them and like them. Many people from my gym use dumbbells for these, palms facing and dumbbells kept together from top to bottom. It hits them from yet another angle.

Respect!

Hey Max-Rep,

Thanks for the props! I want to keep my lines. After all, that's what got me this far in the first place. I know I need "mass" but how much and at what expense? Health....? NOT! 1st place....? NOT. I've competed many years for just the mere love of the sport. I may never win a Pro show, but that's ok. I just enjoy being on stage and hearing the fans cheer in support. When I'm on stage, I'm more into trying to give a good presentation while feeeling the song I am posing to. I think that exudes to the fans. Melvin Anthony keeps me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. He is a great classical poser and then next thing you know, he's breakin' it down with perfection and finesse. He captivates everyone including his fellow competitors. He feels his art and then portrays it on stage.

As you know, bodybuilding....like any other sport comes sacrifice. Whatever it maybe. I'm sure every athlete in their respective sports have sacrificed a thing or two to be the "best" at what they do. However, sacrifice does not come with out risks. Hell, even top financial investors take risks with their investments. I have risked and have sacrificed some valuable things to get where I am today. For example, I sacrificed the whole 2005 season to pursue my education.

As I get older (my B-Day is coming up on April 14th, I'll be 32), I realize what is important to me as an individual and reflect on my past mistakes and try not to make them again. But I will continue to take risks in other aspects of my life but not with my health. You're only born with one 'body' and what goes on inside is more important than what you look like on the outside. At least to me. Being in shape just happens to be a part of my life. It has been for 15+ years now. I didn't even think that I would get to this level as a pro. But since I have, my one and only dream was to just merely compete on that Mr. Olympia stage. I accomplished my goal of turning pro and sealed it by just being on the Mr. 'O' stage.

In other words, I can walk away from this sport forever completely content because I accomplished and achieved what I wanted. Some people may not understand that. But that is the truth. I never said..."I want to win the Mr. Olympia someday". I just wanted to feel what it's like to be up there. Especially having my father there was so special to me. He's a great man and I wanted him to see me up there because for years, he never understood or followed what I did. The only thing and name he new was of course...Arnold. So, I explained to him that this is the show Arnold won 7 times. He got the picture after that. Despite an 18th place finish....while a personal disappointment, I was just amazed and honored to be there. I never thought it was possible for me. So, I gained more than I lost just by being up there with the 'best of the best'! A day I'll never forget or regret. After all, there has been pros that have been professionals since I was like 14yrs. old and still are competing today that have never stepped foot on that Olympia stage. At least I can say that I did. On that day, I felt more like a fan than a competitor. Besides, I had the best seat in the house......on stage! LOL.....

Sincerely,

Richard Jones

You should consider motivational speaking.

Hey guy and gals.....(naw, that sounds too "Cali"....I'm from the eastcoast). So let me try that again.

What up GetBig peeps?

Max-Rep, thanks for having my back. I post here because I realize that sometimes people want to know the person behind the body (metaphorically speaking). Hell, you all know I lift weights...right? So knowing that, I try to relay my personality through my posts. I'm not in the business of bashing people or getting into pissing matches. I come in peace with sincerety.

I would also like to thank and acknowledge everyone for their positive responses. Some of you are so funny. I truly enjoy the laughter so I thank you all for that as well.

Yes, it is true....I do read the dictionary pretty much on a daily basis. Not as you would read a book, but to perfect the English language and understand the meaning of words. I come across words I don't know everyday somewhere, somehow. When I don't know what they mean, I go right to the dictionary and then it's studied, practiced and added to my vocabulary. It's funny when I travel on a plane, people next to me pull out the romantic novels written by some 'ghost writer' and I pull out my pocket dictionary. They never say anything, but they either think one of two things: That I'm stupid and just learning how to read and write or they think that I'm addicted to crossword puzzles. LOL.... So we're left fighting over the one arm rest. I usually win that though. I wish I could fly 1st class sometimes just so I can have my own damn arm rest. I'm not that big. So I assume most pros have to fly 1st class just so they're not spilling on to other people's seats. Ronnie only reqiures 1st class and not only does he deserve it, but he needs it! If I saw him in coach, as a passenger, I'd just give him the whole row and then just swap seats with one of the stewardess'....oh, that's right, they don't like that word any more. I mean....'flight attendant'.

Since I have been pro, people have asked me: "When are you going to make a 'workout' DVD?"

To answer that question, If and when I ever make one, I want people to see the real person inside me other than me throwing "peanuts"...I mean weights. I always wanted it to be the whole 'Richard Jones' instead of the "bodybuilder Richard Jones". Some people may like it, others may not. But there are plenty of vid's out there where you can see just someone lifting weights. I would take you on a journey of my life. Where I was born, where I grew up, how I began, what else I do outside the sport, my likes and dislikes, and how I really live. I'll be the first to admit...I don't have a fancy house or a bunch of nice cars, no $10K stereos, no flat screens in my fridge and in my bathtub. Just the real life about ME. But my problem is, I can't find a film maker that will take the time to film all my activities over the course of several weeks. I grew up on the eastcoast poor and living in the projects of East Boston. I'm not and never will be ashamed of that. But I'd love to fly back there and show my viewers where and how I got to where I am today through the eyes of adversity that I was faced with. I was exposed to everything you still see today. Drugs, drug dealers, gangs, shootings, stabbings, crackheads, etc....

But for some reason, I had a "Concrete Angel" around me and never succumbed to the adversity. With that being said, it has made me who I am today. Someday I want to bring that back to life and let people see "The Man Behind The Body".

Thanks again!

Sincerely with respect,

Richard Jones

Hey Richard man your are an awesome human being! I don't usually say that about a lot of people but you truly are a gem bro! It is things like these that make me see how much time i am wasting online replying to screennames that have nothing to do with helping me get better. From now on there will only be positive feedback coming from me! I hope your video is gonna be made soon and I wish you the best of luck in every aspect of life! Your currently my favorite bodybuilder competing today!

Mechanic, thank you. That is very kind. Unfortunately, as you know, I don't think the bodybuilding worlds wants to see a Mr. Olympia of my stature.

We all have different views and opinions about what a "bodybuilder" should look like and be crowned with the title of Mr. Olympia.

Given the history, I don't think there is a chance in this century that my body type will be awarded a Mr. 'O' title. That's ok with me though. I don't even see myself as a Mr. Olympia. Just because that may never happen for me, you're not going to see me hanging from my proverbial shower rod anytime soon because my time has come and gone.

As I stipulated in one of my previous posts, in this sport, I have achieved more than I expected just by being up there at that stage. To me, I sealed my dream. With that being said, I can walk away from this sport right this second and not regret one thing. However, the fire still burns inside me to be MY best. Not to win a title. Although winning solidifies an achievement, that doesn't mean an individual doesn't consider himself/herself a winner within.

Sincerely,

Richard Jones

Hey Richard.
I have been following this post and quite impressed by your intelligence to match your physiqe. I wish you all the best. I met you after the prejudging at the USA's and Congratulated you on winning the overall. I knew it was yours. I'm the buzz hair Itallian from Seattle If that helps you put a face to me. Anyway I've seen this photo online, and I was wondering if this is of you? I can usually recognize most of the physiques on the top National or pro level.

OWNER...LOL....Nope and NEVER will. I may have had a tough life at times, but I'm NOT into chicks with "trouser snakes"!

Bigdumbbell....No, I don't know. I never owned a firearm when I lived there. Does it matter anyway? Boston's crime rate was higher than it was in the city of L.A. in 2005! I don't know where you live, but the city of Compton had more murders in 05' than some states had in a decade! Compton used to have their own Police Dept. But the Gang violence there was so strong, the force was overwhelmed and literally out-manned by the number of gang members there. So, the city was absorbed my the L.A. County Sheriff's and they STILL can't get that city under control. Sorry for the long winded answer.

Oh, by the way....tell me more about this "Owning Squad"...?

I really like your mentality on bodybuilding in general.
Since you speak so open about not using certain compound to risk your health.

We all know that to get at a certain level you need something "extra"

Can you give some insight on your vieuw on ""basic" steroids your choiches to use them and health ?

Jeffrey.....St. Piere is great to watch. I like him. We'll get more into that later. Just trying to respond to everyone at once.

Mechanic....Thank you so much! I just hope to make an impact as a pro off the stage more so than on.

Zwier....Thanks. But the "extras" are not a part of my life right now. That's the honest truth. I see no point on putting things into my body for unneccesary reasons. To tell you straight, I really just enjoy eating clean foods and simple OTC supplements. As I said, my health will NOT be put at risk no matter what. I do eat my wheaties though.

Sincerely,

Richard Jones

MULTIPLICATION.....Thank s! About being articulate, I'm a writer! I love to write short stories. I have been doing that since I was like 15 years old. As with most writers, the inspiration comes from real-life events of themselves or others around them that they have seen. Just from my own personal experiences, I can write forever from what I was exposed to and some of the critical decisions I have made. As you can tell, I have always had a passion for words and their meanings. When I was a sophmore in college, I tutored highschool students in English. Just from that, it improved my vocabulary immensely. In addition to that, being in law enforcement, you had to articulate with perfection both verbally and in police reports. One mistake and the Defense will tear you apart on the witness stand. So, you have to be on your game as far as English is concerned.

Gracie bjj.....it's going well. Given your screen name, I take it you know what I talking about when I mention getting twisted up? I love it though. I just have fun with it. Not trying to go anywhere with it. Just a sponge for knowledge I guess. Besides, Martial Arts rule! Love that stuff.

Finally...to the OWNING SQUAD, I don't think I would fit the crew. For one, I don't post enough (less than 70 posts since my inception in 2003). Second, I'm not in the business of bashing, crashing or burning the characters of those of whom I don't know and/or never met. Thanks for the offer though.

Sincerely with respect,

Richard Jones

Rich-

I think ur idea for a DVD is excellent. It would show more than just u lifting weights.

That's a bit like the idea behind Lee's new series.

Showing where ur from, where u grew up and trained, where u eat etc. would be really good.

I'd probably buy one, and I'm not pissing in ur pocket or brown nosing u either.

I have Dex's Titans DVD and thats one of the best bits when it shows him eating out and his cars etc.

Thanks Blaster. But, I don't have nice cars and I hardly eat out! Would you still buy one though?

What you would see, is an in-depth inside look at who I am and where I came from. Of course there will be training involved, but you would also see what inspires me in and out of the sport of bodybuilding. I think I have to find an independant film maker for what I want to do. It'll almost be like a minnie movie. Real life stuff. I would love to go back to my roots and bring to my fans and others alike.

It will be the first pro show I see cause there aren't so much in the area. I think the quality of the competitors won't be so great so you would be a great addition and you could easily take your Olympia qualifing spot

Stavios, I'm taking a few shows in consideration right now. But I will be back up there in the not too distant future. I have never been to Canada. I heard it's a cool spot! Is that true?

As time goes by, I will cut down on my outside activities and redirect that focus on the show of choice. I'm 232lbs. right now with abs. Nothing to brag about but I'm holding 'natural' weight and staying very active. I'm chillin' tonight though. No training, no grappling, no shooting. NUTTIN'! I need the rest cuz Friday and Saturday, it's on!

So, I'm just eatin' up, having fun responding to you guys. It's rare for me, so I'll take it when I can.

Stavios, at 18, your metabolism is still running on high octane. So adding in a little junk food wouldn't hurt. But if I were your age again....I'd eat clean and stay away from anabolics and take advantage of your teen years. When I was 18, I didn't know a single bodybuilder and hand no clue how to diet or train for that matter. Take advantage of what is available today (training techniques, nutrition tips, supplements, etc...).

By the way, that was when I did and won my first show as a teen. Of course I got the proverbial "bodybuilding bug" and it was on from there. In fact, I didn't lose a show until I placed 3rd at the 2004 NOC (as a pro). That was the first time I had ever lost. I placed behind two great top 10's in the world......Marvelous Melvin Anthony and the super-shredded Darrem Charles.

Hope that advice helps.

Stay strong and live healthy!

Sincerely,

Richard Jones

You never know, he might like to take this opportunity to further his carreer, so to speak. It would be one more thing to add to his resume, and a benefit to both of you.

I mean, seriously, how many bodybuilding videos are out there where you just see the guy lifting weight? The first one I ever purchased was Dorian's Blood and Guts. I have Dex's, and I really don't care about seeing a different face lifting the same weights. A fan wants more than just what he already sees in the magazines.

No worries on the advice Stavios. Congrats on winning that show. Keep rolling strong and let it take you where it will. Positive thoughts can never produce negative results.

Carpe Diem!

The NOC has come and gone. The results are the results. Hell, the show doesn't even have the same name anymore!

Unhooked and 240.....you guys cool or what? Let's keep the peace fellas.

I know we all watch "American Idol", but there's no need to fight about it.

Unhooked, if I was a rat, with all the haters here, it'd be common knowledge.  Truth is, I'm Johnny Tightlips with my info and sources.

Now I must admit, I did see a little of American Idol tonight...

Well said Blaster! I just might ask you to be co-producer! I feel ya on that. That's why I don't have one yet. There are too many out that put people to sleep. I want to keep you guessing, on the edge of your seat, action-type, with a touch of drama and good humor! And of course....lifting weights!

No shame in my game!

Richard, yes you having a DVD would definetly be a good idea. Things to make your DVD stand out from the others. Would be to show yourself having more interaction with your friends family etc.. Show people more then just you at the gym liftin weights. Alot of people buy these dvds cause they want to find out more about that bber's life style etc.. Speak your mind and speak the truth let people know how you feel about the sport and what it means to you, and how its changed your life..

Hey Richard,

I think your DVD idea is great!  I'd buy it  :)

If you ever want to come to Vancouver, BC (Canada) let me know..we have a couple great shows here every year that we bring guest posers in for.  Vancouver is a beautiful city with lots to do!

Looking forward to seeing your new website...I was on your message board on your old site a couple of years ago.  It would be great to see a journal on your new site so we can keep up to date with your competition plans and everything else you are doing!

Ha! I'd love to, but I'm a broke Uni student and I wouldn't be able to afford to fly over to see u just yet. My idea would be around the daily life of a bodybuilder, much like Lee's idea (mind u, I said that well before any mention of Lee's series). I would start from the moment u wake up, and finish when u go to bed. I wouldn't go on and on about shopping and stuff like that, but it would show more of ur schedule in the days leading up to a show. I would possibly show off season stuff too just to show what it's like also. I would concentrate on the training, but not show every rep and set, perhaps just ur final set of each exercise.

Thanks again to all for the feedback concerning the production of my own DVD. I'm taking it all in. After all, I want to tailor it around YOUR views as well as mine!

As far as my website, I'm building it behind the scenes right now and it's taken a little longer because we are getting new software to create new and innovative things.

J.C. Hicks....the back detail is more genetic than anything. There's nothing special I do or don't do for that matter. However, I have developed my own secret way over doing my hyper extensions. It's too difficult to describe. So, I apologize.

But, I'm going to be a bit busy today, so I wanted to sneak this one in out of respect. So, if I don't respond....it's because I'm out and about doing what I have to do. I'll can get back to you all as soon as I can.

Thanks for the feedback on my web intro: www.richardjonesusa.com

Carpe Diem!

Sincerely,

Richard Jones

Hey Richard, looking great! This is the first time I see you posting more frequently! And it seems like you are a pretty cool person! But I don't know if you already know this, but a few years back, supposely Stan McQuay had some beef with you. Don't know if you remember but it involved his girlfriend at the time, a VPX girl. Now, I'm not trying to start something with you and Stan, but I just want you to clearify it up if you can. Thanks.

Hey Richars is that girl in the pictures your woman? If so she's a good looking one, props! I would also be very interested in the video. I'm going to go spar with my friend (he's a submission fighter) and see if the mma fights are really as girly as the mma boards make it out to be. Keep training hard and know that you will always get my support along with many others.

Mantronik....of course I remember you guys! Get at me on the PM thing here. However, I don't remember Milos asking me to do a leg workout that day. LOL..... I was doing a photo shoot remember? A leg one too. But, I have experienced Milos' leg workouts before and they ain't NO JOKE! If any can get through one....just one of his leg workouts, let me know. Milos is an AWESOME trainer and the best nutritionist I have ever spoken to. The guy is full of knowledge. When he speaks, I listen!

No, that is NOT my girlfriend in that picture. It's actually the guy in the white shirt's wife. She is an IFBB Pro Figure with the smallest waist to shoulder ratio up there. To me, she possesses the whole package from head to toe. I wish her well. She has a great husband as well. Very supportive and always there for her. They're both nice genuine people.

I'm going to reluctantly respond to this once and only once:

To those of you that think an athlete's life revolves around "enhancing performance drugs" or the use of them, you're wrong! YOU ARE SIMPLY CLUELESS! That just shows me the lack of experience in any sport when insipid comments are made like that. Moratorium on that.

Stan and I had a fight over beef? I have NO recollection of that. Stan McQuay and I are cool. I don't know anyone at VPX other than Toney Freeman. He's getting ready for a big show and a new step for him in the LHW Class and I wish him well. I'm sure he'll do equally as well as he did as a middle. "Clarified" and moratorium on that as well.

As I said before, I come in peace, generousity and sincerity. I see no need to stir things up and/or bash people. We all know, that goes on on a daily basis. That's what drives the very people you guys want to hear from away. I'll never understand that. And for those who truly have legitamite posts, will get a response.

"Back in the days when I was young, I'm not a kid anymore, but somedays, I sit and wish I was a kid again."

In fact, enjoy the thread.

See ya....

Respectfully submitted,

Richard Jones

Cool, Rich, that's all I needed. The reason being was that Stan posted something about you awhile ago on his website. He seemed pretty hostile with his words but I think its probably a misunderstanding. Don't want to start rumors about you or Stan so we'll just leave it alone.  Hope all goes well for you and your up coming competitions!

Richard,

Judging by your responses  to this board, and to your handling of the negative comments, you are one class act.

Good luck in your career. You have the classic bodybuilder's physique, one that brings back memories of the 80's and early 90's and one that 99% of the population aspires to.

1) NEVER did i say it takes only drugs! it takes basic intense training, knowing your body, lots of good food and lots of sleep. genetics comes to play too but i put it low on the scale due to the fact that most of us are not 6'3 and our bone frames are not geneticaly gifted. genetics will determine if you get your pro card or not but drugs will have a lot more "weight" on your physiqe than genetics by then.

2) my post was deleated and that means it was true and to the point.

3) richard jones, i consider you from now on a liar since our life is revolved around drugs and you know it.

4) put a pic of you from age 15 and show me 180 pound muscular boy and not a skinny "cut" 135 pound kid or even worse 220 pound fat boy and ill take my words back. your genetics is good and nothing more than good. your respond to training+DRUGS is phenominal  and that is why you are a pro. but the drugs has  A LOT TO DO WITH IT.

5) my experience is not in any sport! my experience is in bodybuilding and fitness. when you get to be on as many covers as me only then! you can call me clueless.

6) i do like the nice written queen elizabeth english you present and the fact you think your 32+ years  on earth means shit but what you need to get through your head is that you can NOT bullshit someone who been there a lot LOT longer than you. you just started and havent done a thing yet...hold back on your "genious" advice cuz it will make you look bad at the end.

gh15 it was I who deleted your post and I did it not because of any small ring of truth that is may have had. I made it clear in a previous post of mine that I was going to police this thread. Personal attacks and the typical Pro bashing and bantering that getbig is known for was not going to be tolerated. Richard is a Pro (a word you may wish to look up in the dictionary) that actually presents himself with the class and dignity that Pro bodybuilding desperately needs.

Having been the training partner of 6 Pro bodybuilders and 1 top ranking national competitor I am not naive in the usage of drugs in bodybuilding but I am aware that the dosages and duration today may not be necessary to produce a physique such as Richard has developed. Since his physique closely resembles that of many Pro’s of the 80’s in 90’s I believe that there is truth as to what he has stated.

I am leaving your post to show the World what a sad state a representative of Pro bodybuilders offers (since you IMPLY that you are a Pro either now or in the past), since you seem to unable to form coherent, well-structured sentences with proper grammar and punctuation.

After reading your post is it any wonder why Pro bodybuilding today gets little respect? It seems quite clear to me.

I wish you the best of luck in your competitive career given your communication and articulation skills.

Richard Jones… once again you have won my respect and it seems I’m not alone. You seem to have also won over some of the most “colorful” personalities on getbig and that is no easy task.

1) it doesnt matter to me wether you leave my post on or taking it off (i should write delete huh? or maybe it should be "i should have written delete huh?".. ;)) since i know what i take and what the rest take. so to be honest with you it doesnt matter to me.

2) during the 80s and 90s some of us even took more than what we  take these days! remember the russian gh? im sure you dont. listen bro i wasnt born yesterday and my english is very clear if i didnt take that stuff and didnt know of atleast 20 others of my fella bodybuilders who use same doses i wouldnt say so. period.

3) kissing ass is nice and good but youre a mod! you shouldnt protect him since i didnt attack him...i just stated whats going on between close doors! i even gave him complements here and there.

4) i stand behind any word i say and i never lie. you understand my english completely and that is without me bothering to do a spell check which means that you speak american and i dont care to do a spell check or think about how i say my sentences which may hurt...yet it's still truth! (read it a second time cuz it is a long unstructured sentence.. ::))

5) remember this is not a gear board so i CAN NOT go into details about many things that make bodybuilders look bad in the public eye...but you must remember as a mod that there are kids reading this board...kids who wanna be bodybuilders....kids who will discover the truth one day....so why feeding them bullshit?  those kids need to know that it takes a lot of hormones/drugs to win nationals and thats a fact. one of the thing that makes us look bad in the general public eye is not that we use hormones consistently but that many of us lie about it right and left. it is ok to lie to the girl you wanna do at age 22 on the beach but it's not ok to lie to your iron brothers...ESPECIALLY when i sit here and already been through my forth injection today.

6) now if you want examples of pros and what they get and who they get it from i can do that too but this board wont ever be the same after. lmk

but you must remember as a mod that there are kids reading this board...kids who wanna be bodybuilders....kids who will discover the truth one day....so why feeding them bullshit?  those kids need to know that it takes a lot of hormones/drugs to win nationals and thats a fact. one of the thing that makes us look bad in the general public eye is not that we use hormones consistently but that many of us lie about it right and left. it is ok to lie to the girl you wanna do at age 22 on the beach but it's not ok to lie to your iron brothers...ESPECIALLY when i sit here and already been through my forth injection today.
GH, I hope that those kids who consider going into the sport of BB, do come across and look up to the guys like RJ and get inspired by seeing how far you can go without jeopardizing your health. And I do hope that they discover the truth as it is presented in his posts and a true story DVD one day hopefully. You have chosen to take that path and get on gear and that is fine. It is your life and the choice is yours...It does not mean, however, that it is the only truth as to how to build a beautifully sculptured physique. If you do not believe in what he had to say on here regarding the "supps" then it is a simple close-mindedness. Many people haven't simply given themselves a fair chance to see what they can accomplish and how far they can take their body...

Well you've certainly rested your case. I'd sleep well at night if you were my attorney.  ::)

You proved your point that YOU know what YOUR talking about and that YOU know about drugs by posting a couple of pictures of Tom Prince? How?

Unless YOU are Tom you've proved nothing. We all know drugs are a large part of bb. We all know the everyone uses them.

I don't think Richard ever said he's NEVER used them. He said he'd never used GH and that he's not using anything right now. He never said that he never has used AS. He said he wouldn't compromise his health for a trophy. I took this to mean if he has used, the dosages were kept at a relatively safe level.

This thread is about learning some interesting things about Richard and about his motivations, etc.

i woke up for my mid night isopure and chiken mix and i was checkin this thread again and this deserves an answer.... but this is the last time i repond on this thread.

fitchic78 darling. :)
this is a pro bodybuilder we are talking about. this is not some local gym rat that is on the gear or some kid who just started...this is a professional bodybuilder that need to stand on stage next to dexter jackson and say cheeze. not only that he is on gear, and he wont argue it, but he is on mega gear (mega gear can be 1 gram test or primo this is mega gear i never said mega gear is 5 gram test)  and then some...(trust me he tried everything)  we are walking pharmacies and we also know everything about the drugs we take and that is why our health is not at such risk as you think. our moods on the other hand...thats a diff story ;)

i didnt chose the "way of gear"....the moment you become a bodybuilder your body will reach its natural peak/potential (pending age, health, training and nutrition) within 4-5 years of serious lifting. we all go on gear within 5 years of serious training. many of us go way before and few single ones go past the 5th year with no gear...but those are the ones who will never turn pros and they do it only to compete or to look marvelous
i can tell you that bodybuilding as of 2006 is deeply involved with gear and other hormones. true, there are physiqes that look more "natural" but those guys know what they do ...you havent followed them during a long period of time and you cant tell what they looked like 8 years ago.

there is no such a thing as "steroid look". i never use anti estogen and i never had gyno...some people have pimples...some dont...and some take care of it cuz they know their body...bodybuilders unlike what you think are very smart when it comes to their own look...many of us sit and take care of our appearance more than we actually train....sad but true...but it's a fact; from the fake tan to the lotions to the anti everything we add to the hormones we take....so you can not tell by seeing a guy that doesnt look red and swollen that he is natural. one trick you learn as a bodybuilder is that the best way to stay natural is to use more of the anabolic agents with a higher dose.... (primobolan, winstrol, oxandrolone,eq) and to incorperate the right type of androgens such as one of our most favorite, masteron, to a cycle. gh can never be detected and no one will pay for it to be detected so we use it a lot...there are tons over tons of secrets and im not up for writing them here...but with the right diet even when youre on testovis and nandrolone with some dbol....if you know what youre doing you wont show none of the "steroid look"

finally, you were talkin about giving yourself a chance to develop naturally and use supp. it is a MUST. youre right! but at the level im talkin about we only market the supp we dont actually use them. we use protien powder and vitamins and that is it! sometimes ill eat some protien bar but that's it :)....what do u think the rest of it is? youre right.. real food and hormones...hormones and real food....sometimes i dont even use protien shakes i only eat 10 times a day real food and what else.....you guessed it right HORMONES.
this is the life of a bodybuilder. we train, we eat, we sleep, we inject and so on and on and on and some of us also work ask milos he works his ass.

back to bed ;D
good luck

Let me be the one to predict that that was not the last time he posts in this thread.

And GH, if you want to debate this subject start up a thread, I don't think you're saying anything wrong but maybe this thread should be able talking to richard, not debating gear usage.  I'm sure max will oblige and leave the other thread alone.

We were just about to start on our leg workout, and before I started I was going to take 1 more pic of you.
That's when Milos asked you to join in with us and you said "no" making that hand gesture.

Damn it.....I couldn't resist!!!! Where do I start?

Let me get this bodybuilding "Dr. Phil/Geraldo" a.k.a gh15 a tissue! As I stated before, I come in peace. However, your long winded, insipid, pathetic posts are going to drive you straight in the grave. If you "THINK" you know what I do or have done, then by all means post IT! Max-Rep is right, not only are your sentences poor and your grammar sucks, but when did you decide that I'm in your team of "WE"? That's right! Don't compare me to you EVER. As you stated (as I reluctantly read on), you've "been there, done that". If so, then why the hell are you still doing gear? What is your justification? Oh, let me guess.....you're one of those that did the National/USA's for 15 years and couldn't crack the top 15. You made one thing clear, that GEAR is a major part of YOUR life and you CAN'T stand being off for a day (hence the fact that you're on your what...? 7th injection today?) let alone a month. Believe me, I have been in the game. But it sounds like you're the "GAME". Sorry I pissed on your circus....Clown! You would be much better at being a "Phsychic Detective" than a gear using has been. If you're so concerned about what kids are reading about bodybuilding, then write a book (given the way you write here, you might want to hire a 'ghost writer') and go talk to them at schools and let them know what it takes to be a "pro"? After that, promise the ones that are interested, that you'll give them their first bottle of D-Bol after they graduate. I'm sure you'll get your point across which should relieve some of the organ stress that you're experiencing. But through all of this, I'm glad that you're all NUTTED up about me. One piece of advice (if you can take it from a "pro"), try injecting super glue in your palms then make a fist as hard as you can! That'll suspend your resists from posting on this thread again. Ok Shrek..? Or are you the Donkey?

FitChic78: Nice post. Since you're new, you have to understand that it's hard to take a clown out of the circus. But your post was a solid response. Stand your ground girl.

Mantronik....I got your PM. I'll be over there soon. Did you at least like the 'fro'? I'm thinking about doing corn rows and then dying them blonde.

See....now I'm late on my training. Damn you Donkey!

See Y'all L8R.

Peace in the Middle East (and GetBig for that matter)!

Sincerely,

Richard Jones

By the way I swear I think Richard would make the ultimate spokesperson for BB.  He has the looks and body that people would want.  Not to overly big and disgusting like Ronnie's.  He isbuilt how most guys would want.  Plus, just a hunch I bet he gets more girls than the person who currently is supposed to have the worlds most perfect body (Mr Olympia).

GH, you are right, the usages of drugs in BB today is widely practiced. This is what is so sad. Any sport, no matter what type of a recreational activity, is supposedly something that should be beneficial to your health. BB, in particular, is about building a beautiful physique which unfortunatelly is often done with a help of drugs. Go figure...It is the most paradoxical sports out there today if you really stop for a second and think about what it has turned into...
Funny how you generalize people by using "we". Obviuosly you could not wait long enough, doubt it was 5 years for you, before jumping on gear. But here is a little bit of truth for you. Not all do. I know from first hand experience because I had dated a guy who had an awesome physique and had never touched any of that shit. Now, I know that for a fact coz we were together pretty much 24/7, lived together, trained together, everything for 2 years and I would notice if any of that stuff was floating around. People would stop him on numerous occassions and ask if he was competing coz he looked that good and then tried to pursuade him to go and compete when he would say he did not. Sure, it took him many years to accomplish a look that a lot of people would turn their head to admire but he did it on his own and that what was so much more rewarding in the end. Just to give you an example, that some do look like they are on something without ever touching any gear. He could easily compete and I would bet everything he had a good shot at being successful in the sport. But he didn't do it for that simple reason that he didn't want to jeopardize his principles, getting on gear, having a brutal schedule, resticting his life style, and everything else that comes with prepping for a comp. He simply loved to train, bodybuild and see what improvements he could make over time. With all that comes when you are trying to get to the pro level, some of that pure enjoyment is taken away. So no, I don't think everyone gets on gear sooner or later. It is those who don't possess the ability to see what they can do beyond what is "known" one can achieve. You say you train and after a while you hit a point where you have completely realized your natural potential and so the next step is to incorporate an outside sources to help you get to the next level. Well, my question to you, how do you know what that limit is? You are not what you think you are, but what you think, you are. You don't believe what you see. You see what you already believe. So you and the rest that you claim go on gear simply are weak, more mentally then physically, which is so more sad. You look for a quick way out and something to get you fast results. The thing is once you get it, you want more and then some, which is obviuosly why in your case, and as Richard pointed out, you have to be on your 7 injections a day. Pathetic. That also proves my point that there is no limit and we as humans will always seek for something to fullfil that desire of improving upon our current accomplishments.
As for the hormones...Well, if you know enough about it and how it works, then you should be able to distinguish those who are on them and those who are not. Speaking in particular of GH, that's why you see all the bloated stomachs up on stage these days. If you compare many of the guys from a few years back, you can't miss to see the physiological changes their physiques have experienced over years of time. That's why it is called Growth hormone. You take it and everything grows, not just muscles, your joints, your jaw and your organs. Some pros today don't have those characteristical mutations even after years of training. You know, with more advocates, just like yourself, of using drugs as if it was an absolute necessity, it is not surprising that it's getting out of hand. I may be a fairly new kid on the block when it comes to the sport, but I have been around for a few years and with all of the pressure of unfair competition, trust me, I have considered getting on gear myself. However, I've decided not to do it. The more I talk to people who are on it or read posts like yours, I realize that I am better off without all that chemical stuff in my body even though I am considering competing later on again and knowing that I am going to enter an unfair game competing with those who are all "juiced up". But at least I save myself a headache of worring that one day I may repeat the case of Flex...Good luck to you with everything though, GH!

Damn it.....I couldn't resist!!!! Where do I start?

Richard... that's just what he wanted. He claims to be a Pro and to have "been there". I seriously doubt it. My guess is that he's a 160 pound, 22 year old sitting behind a keyboard just hoping he can get under your skin. Please don't let him. He read a few books on gear and thinks he knows it all. Read some articles on Pro's training and thinks he knows all about that as well. He hits the gym and when he didn't gain 40 pounds in three weeks he thinks... "Well if I was on all the gear the Pro's are on, I'd be a monster too”.

Title: Re: Richard Jones Looking Good.

Max_Rep, naw....he doesn't get under my skin. He NEVER can and NEVER will. I just laugh at Donkeys and circus clowns! After all, isn't that what you're supposed to do? I could care less who he is, what he does or has done and what he "THINKS" he knows.

Unhooked: I was just kidding. LOL....No "corn rows" for me. My face fits more of a conservative look than to stick out of any crowd. I did try some color in 2004 by the help of an expert hairstylist that knew what looked best. But I found that to be high maintenace. It was fun. My hair color for the 2004 Mr. 'O' was like a brownish...whatever. I liked it though. It's "normal" now.

FitChic78 just laid it down perfectly. See, she's not inexperienced. She obviously can and has seen what goes on in the sport. Enough to make a great valid post with some strong points of view. She's even articulate.....unlike some! I'm not going to dignify anything else that Donkey says.

The only thing that bugs me about the boards, is when things get off topic. It get's to the 'Point of No Return'. Which in return, makes the said topic not worthy of valid responses. That's why there are Moderators on here.....to keep posts on the specific topics and keep it clean and tasteful. Good job guys. I understand that people are free to express themselves as they see fit. However, this board and others like it can be much more beneficial to those of whom want valid advice, information, and those who wish to share what they know to benefit an athlete can be very helpful.

Best Wishes to you all (even you gh"51")! I think I added enough of what I could to this topic. Once again, I appreciate the responses of the GOOD, the BAD & the UGLY!

Sincerely with respect,

Richard Jones

When will people understand that bodybuilding pros get big by using supplements bought at stores like max muscle for example. How many times do we have to tell the public that it takes hard work, food, sleep and food supplements from anywhere, max muscle to name one.

RJ,
Thanks for your support of what I had to say. Sorry, I guess it did get steerred off the topic a bit...
You have never answered someone's question, in this thread I believe, on what show you may be competing in next. You've hinted we would see you up there on stage pretty soon though. Have you already set your mind on something in particular? Colorado Pro maybe? I think I saw your name on the list of contestants at one point...
Best wishes!

FitChic78....no worries on the support. It was a great post. Much credit to it. About competing this year...? I contemplating on a few shows a bit later on in the year. Don't have a specific one yet. I'm in 'striking distance' to both the Colorado and the NY Pro. But nothing set in stone yet. Time flies....it's almost March! The Arnold is next weekend and then after that, I'll see where I am at mentally as well physically. I'll compete out of choice, not because I have to. I look at bodybuilding a little differently now. So, I just envision what "I" want to look like! Not what I "have" to look like. The Arnold should be a good line-up.

Thanks!

Sincerely,

Richard Jones

Don't hate me guys. Rich is my fav. bber, so I hope he doesn't think I'm talkin' about him. But come on now, I've been in the game way too long to listen to someone at the top of this sport today say he's natural or can ever compete natural. Look at Flex when he tried it. Just can't be done, not in the pros or any pro qualifier. I mean, you can do it, but you'll look like Jocelyn Pelletier next to the top guys.

Glad to hear things are going good Richard, the ideas for the video sound pretty cool.

Look forward to seeing you compete again in the near future. But you better keep your nose to the ground, word on the street is that "Gh15" aka "Buddy McDoomis" is coming up fast and stronger then ever. I've even heard that he's begun to arm wrestle employees at other offices in his area and that he is absolutely unstoppable. I would hate to know that he could surpass you at any minute ;)

Richard is genetically elite in the muscle department. The guy has a physique that over 99% of males cannot achieve. To say that he's an appropriate role model for health and fitness is dangerously misleading for impressionable trainees. This is not to put the finger on Richard but it must be said.

To say that he's an appropriate role model for health and fitness is dangerously misleading for impressionable trainees. This is not to put the finger on Richard but it must be said.

He is a role model of how a Champion should present him (or her) self, a role model of an uplifting and self determined attitude and belief system, and a role model of how one can articulate ones self.

The true "trophy" that comes from Bodybuilding is not limited to improvements of the body. The "trophy" is the lesson learned about determination, discipline, work-ethic, organized planning, seeing a project through to completion, self esteem and a host of other intrinsic skills and motivations one can develop through bodybuilding. It seems to me Richard has also extended these skill to include development of his vocabulary, writing skills, martial arts, weapons, speed, agility, timing and more.

Skills and factors like this will help a person in his/her career, education, relationships and communication... just to name a few.

How is leaving young impressionable trainees with the idea that they might want to consider multi-dimensional self improvement misleading? That we can't all excel to the levels of achievement Richard has in all those area's is not the lesson derived from a role model. The lesson is to continually strive to improve one's self in many area's and to never ever, ever allow the disparaging remarks of others or the limiting beliefs of others to deter you from your own goals and ideals.

Once that lesson is learned it’s effect on a person can never be taken away and most likely they will excel in area’s of their own making.

Tell me again how this is a bad thing?

Rich,
Here's a few pictures to bring the thread back on track and to revive a few memories.
They are from the FIBO 2004 in Germany where I had the pleasure of working with Rich, DJ, Ruhl, Gunther and Ernie Taylor for 4 days at the show.
I think Rich was a few weeks out from a show and the pics of his forearms was just insane and hard to capture on film, but they were pretty freaky. And you can see he still has the lines and some improvements...in fact he is still wearing the same trunks.
Back then he was very humble and thankful for every fan than came by, signing pictures, posing and talking to people. It's good to see your still the same Rich.
When you in Thailand?
Later
DLock.

I can see both sides of the issue here.

gh15 has some exciting info to share, and really does reveal something about the serious gear use that is out there. To both competitors and casual obsers alike, it's fascinating and fun to read.

from maxrep's angle, this thread started about Rich Jones, one of the few pros to post here with positivity and regularity.  We don't want his thread derailed.

Despite the dispute, splitting the thread was probably the best idea. I really look fwd to hearing more from gh15 about this, as well as Rich Jones anwering questions.

I've known a few guys who have gotten their pro cards and neither used growth to get it.

They used plenty of test, a fair amount of vet mixs (deca + whatever) and various orals (anadrol/dianabol) to get size.

Pre contest they added thyroid, clenbuterol, stanazol and primo tabs

No insulin either.

They were big dudes but nothing like todays monsters.

The cycles were 6 months long but post contest they took a decent break.

They did retain a small waist and symmetrical lines however...

The way you consider it,it is not. Let's get back to what I implied. To answer your question, it presents a professional level physique that is not attainable. It can lead to obsession, encourages drug use, and a psychological, distorted view of what is ideal. And, this is coming from someone who is not natural. You want to become a pro BB'er, then and only then is it ideal. But, it can ultimately leave you with no self worth if you don't have the genes for it. All the mental aspects, hard training, i.e., positive things you made an argument for becomes enshrouded. The real guys preaching this stuff are people you don't want to look at.
We are straying off topic here. I am sure Richard is a nice guy. The dude has a tremendous physique and deserves his fare share of recognition as a top level bodybuilder. But role models we are not. That's just the way I see it bro.

FREAKgeek... I understand your points and they are good ones... but perhaps a kid gets on the right track with improving himself in many area's of his life (not just bb) and realizes that the recognition and sense of achievement he gets from those accomplishments is exactly why he wanted 20 inch arms. It's all speculation but if you ask me I'd rather see Richard and guy's like him influencing these kids rather than some of the other characters floating around the industry.

I just would like to add that the act of taking steroids to accoplish the goals in which they were intended to acheive (pro status) are so far from having any acceptable moral judgement, that I could not believe that a person based on Bodybuilding accolades alone (and a nice smail and being polite to thier fans) cannot be a justified role model.
Which would be different from say Lee Haney who is a role model in the fact that he does all those things for children and the poor which are acts that are commendable but one has to look at Haney and say , you are a role model cause of your devotion to those in need , not cause you were the most diesel guy in the 80's.

So i guess BB can be role models for other the avenues of life they pursue, but not for BB ..ever..
Too much drug usage which leads to youth/others imitaiting steroid use, destroys there lives, the general disregard for the laws of the country, and destroys the body which God blessed you... too much

I'd just like to add that taking steroids in some countries is perfectly legal.

I understand your point of view but I think it's somewhat unfair to say bodybuilders can't be rolemodels.
We first have to define the term role model anyway, it seems like anyone in the public spotlight could be a role model because kids want to follow in their footsteps. Charles Barkley for example, I believe he said he knew he wasn't a role model by choice but by trade, kids look up to him even if he just shoots a basketball.
And I think bodybuilders can be enviable rolemodels because of the hardwork and dedication bodybuilding entails. The downside of the profession relates to illegal drug usage but I don't think that corales one's role model status. You can bodybuild and not take gear.
Anyway, this is taking away from Richard's thread but I think bodybuilders can be role models, even if it's just for the simple fact they bodybuild, regardless of their gear usage or other activities.

----

I also want to add that we're basing one's role model status on the legality of a substance. Can a bodybuilder be a role model if he receives his gear from an anti-aging clinic? Where do we draw the line? Or is it the simply the fact that it's classified as an illegal substance and that's why they bodybuilders can't be role models. What if an IFBB Pro professes the dangers of gear abuse?

Also how does one person's private use endorse the use for others? Many bodybuilders, including Sergio Olivia, stated they wouldn't endorse or recommend gear use to anyone, yet his dedication and hardwork are all enviable qualities. I'd like to personally classify him as a role model.

Here's Segio Olivia's response on improper gear use...

Quote
Yes that's what it is. But they're making a double mistake. When you take steroids you have to train even harder... otherwise the excess weight later turns into fat. If you train hard, eat well with quality protein, and take a good vitamin and mineral, then you can achieve a good physique. And a good physique comes from about 45% of your genes, whereas the rest is from training. So, if you're going to be something, then you're going to be something. If you're not, then you're not. But with all those steroids, you're going to be one of the group... you're not going to be different. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone... to my friends or any of my family.

I think you guys are being too hard on gh15. I think he knows of what he speaks.

I do agree that different pros have very different levels of drug use. I know that many amateurs take more drugs than many pros. So there is a difference and the difference is genetics. But as I've said before, genetics is not just muscle shape. It's not just an X-frame. It's not just muscle quantity. IT IS YOUR GENETIC RESPONSE TO THE HORMONES. Some guys like Vince Taylor take off for Germany for a year, get GHed and come back like monsters. Some guys crank the drugs hard year after year with nothing to show for it but a bunch of 4th place finishes (Erik Fromm, Eric Shannon, Galanti, Lopez etc.) Some guys like Shawn Ray have more muscle naturally than guys who juice for three years and some guys like Levrone who don't have more muscle naturally than your average guy blow up the instant their bodies get that additional testosterone.

I agree with gh15 that it would be helpful to see pics of RJ at age 15-19 to see how he looked as a teen. That would either back up RJ's claims or back up gh15.

It's always cool to see pics of pros in Musclemag interviews when they were teens, but most conspicuously leave out the early juicing years. The pic of Kamali is a good example. Early pics of Flex Wheeler give a good idea of his natural structure. There is a pic of a natural pre-juiced Levrone floating around out there, but no one's ever posted it.

RJ, you have respect from me as a guy with a phenomenal build and I'm not gonna call you a liar because no one KNOWS what another guy does to his body unless they personally witness it. Best of luck in the pros with your limited regimen. My feeling is that your ecto-frame and extremities require quantities you don't want to take to win a pro show.
