On January 3, 1982, Conigliaro, in Boston to interview for a broadcasting position, suffered a heart attack while being driven to the airport by his brother Billy. Shortly thereafter, he suffered a stroke and lapsed into a coma. Conigliaro remained in basically a vegetative state until his death more than eight years later. He lived these final years at his parents' home in Nahant, Massachusetts. In February 1990, he died in Salem, Massachusetts, at the age of 45.

that was a great moment in sports, notice how canseco didn't even feel the ball hitting him in the head and bouncing over the fence for a homer.

tony c had a great career going when tragedy struck him .. had a lot of age based hr records going at the time...

I seem to remember that I was watching a Braves game on TBS and they were doing a look-in and I saw it happen. It was ironic in the sense that for a few years, Royals-Yankees had been a rivalry because of the ALCS, but in 1983 neither team was going anywhere.

I am an A's fan :D That footage is burned into my memory forever. That A's team never maximized the full potential that they had. Three straight World Series appearances, and only 1 ring to show for it.
I remember that shocking sweep by the Reds in 1990 :-X
They had an all-time cast of characters on those teams.

It is amazing how Mark Spitz and others at the time would "just swim fast"; no silicon hat, mop of hair, moustache and all. And although the world records set at the time have been well beaten since we are still talking only by about 5 - 10 seconds.

another guy=that when he came to bat the stadium would come to a standstill....would have loved to be there the night he hit it completely out in centerfield.... centerfield fence was 447 feet away...he also hit several over the roof.
