Post by: Vince G, CSN MFT on January 07, 2016, 08:53:55 AM
Sylva is not a bad place but I got a job offer I could not refuse and am taking it back to South Carolina.  Any ideas Getbiggers as how to decorate the place....maybe some Arnold posters, Squat Rack, Tbombz posters???

Post by: BayGBM on January 07, 2016, 10:59:35 AM
My buddy is looking to buy his first house.  A couple weeks ago, he asked me to go look at a model townhouse with him. He was very excited because it was new construction and the sign said “Starting from the $300’s.”  I cautioned him that “Starting from…” is just a teaser phrase and there is no way he was going to get into a property there for $300k or even $350k.  He accused me of being “negative” and said I was raining on his parade.  We go into the model home and he is ooooing and ahhhing at what he thinks will be his future community; there will be 40 unites in this development.

The builder’s realtor gives him the sales pitch, glossy brochures and shows him model floorplans on the big monitor they have set up.  It all looks very nice.  It will be a gated community with a clubhouse, pool, on the water, etc… The realtor is talking non stop… I finally cut her off and ask her what the prices are for the various units (end unit vs. middle unit; unit on the water; units near the entrance, near the clubhouse, etc.).  There is a different price on almost every unit.  The cheapest unit they had was $440k!  When I finally got her to divulge that price I looked over at my friend.  He tried to keep his poker face, but his skin turned pale white, and he looked like someone punched him in the stomach.  $440k was out of his price range so he won’t be living there.

As we drove out of the community, he wistfully flipped through the brochure a final time.  “I told you so,” I said.  :'(

I always laugh when I see signs that say "As low as..." or "Starting from..."  I told my friend if you are looking at houses and ever see that phrase immediately add $150k to whatever price they are touting.  ::)

Since you asked, I would advise you NOT to purchase a home because of a new job. with your employment history and lack of steady employment, committing to a purchase at this point is foolish. Consider renting until you have some cash saved up and then if you still want to buy and are still employed, put enough down payment to avoid the PMI

Melvin,

What bank would give you a mortgage based on a new job?

You have no savings, never owned anything or worth nor have you ever had a high paying job.

How do you plan to pay for this new home?

Who can live on $45K a year before taxes?

In many states it's possible. When I lived in a small town for school, 2 bedroom apartments (nice ones) were $950 in rent a month. In NYC, those same apartments would have been $2000+.

$45K gross is about what....$30K after taxes?

That's living pretty darn lean.

Well, at least Melvin is working and not sitting on his ass faking a disability and collecting welfare.

1st, Melvin has no savings, has never owned property, has never had a mortgage or a decent paying job of any kind.

His work skills & education are none existent & bought from online diploma mills.

This new imaginary job, which he has yet to start, will net him $30k after taxes & no bank will give him a mortgage based on this & his past history.

This is yet another made up story.

Poor poor Melvin Goodrum. Stuck working at the local Piggly Wiggly with no way out.

This is yet another lie so Melvin Goodrum can feel good about himself online, because he sure doesn't have much to feel good about in real life.

The odd thing is that Melvin Goodrum never thinks his lies through & always gets caught & then runs & hides & never responds.

One would think that after years of making up BS, he'd have become pretty good at it.

But then again, he's a middle aged fat man who lives in the rural South, in a trailer & works a minimum wage job. Intelligence isn't exactly his forte.

Just finished pounding.....errr.  Oh you want an moving update??  Well, I checked out the townhome and its pretty sound although needing some TLC last week.  Packed up a lot of stuff, got a new business license for South Carolina and a UPS box for the address.  Put my notice in last week at ______ and will work until Feb 5th.

I will post some pictures of my job soon but I just don't want a bunch of people bothering me at work since I answer and handle all incoming calls ;D

If  your online business are doing so well, why bother getting a regular job?

And with your portfolio of stocks, bonds, jewels & precious metals, why even think about working for someone else?

Makes no sense.  ???

Speak for yourself Drunkie McDrunkDrunk.  Minimalism isn't cheap...its efficient living based on the concept that the less clutter you have in your surrounding = less stress in your life.

Why the trailers and ghettos in the first place? Why have you chosen to not get and keep a regular job and live decently?

because he can't. He's delusional, with no skills or education & all of his degrees are bought online & have no merit, hence a string of dead end low paying menial labor jobs.

Don't you think he'd be living well if he could? The guy lives in ghettos & trailers in the rural south & brags online about eating chicken breasts.

Goodrum is intelligent enough to get a decent job, I'm sure. He is actually a good example of "The Mensa bus driver syndrome". The essence of this is marked underachievement combined with pathetic compensatory boasting. He probably suffers from personality issues that makes him difficult to hire and this probably explains his lack of respectable employment. His judgement is also lacking- probably related to the previous point.

Because you have to follow a relationship to where it goes.  I moved from a nice place, sold my sports car, and etc all to move to Sylva.  Now that its ended, I am simply picking back up where I left off.

I know Vince was stacking shelves and bagging products , forgot which store it was.

If memory serves me right, Melvin Goodrum was the 3rd best shelf stocker in the history of the Sylva Piggly Wiggly.

He was a wizard with the mop & no one left a washroom as clean & minty fresh as Melvin, even though bathroom clean up duty was never one of his job responsibilities.

The man just cares too much & give, gives & gives some more.

That is a very dumb statement, considering that Blacks make up a very large percentage of that state's population.

No, but I changed my mind after the inspection results...70k for a townhouse.  You definitely get what you pay for.  I've instead signed a lease for an apartment at Howell Commons until I find a new place.
