If you stop insisting on dumbbells signed by DLB you'll find the price more reasonable.

For the house, the Iron Master adjustables. I have both upgrades and my DBs got from 5-165 lbs each. Solid as a rock when locked in. Easy to change the weights.

Since work is slow, I went on  CL and found a pro style set of 90s for 100 bucks, and 100s for 110 bucks.

DBs are easy to find.

I don't use CL, only killers and prostatutes use that site.  Any links from a legit site?

I plan to make a whole set out a few lengths of 1 inch round bar cut to various sizes for each dumbell and a shitload of second hand 5kg plates, this can be done relatively cheap but you need access to a lathe for the knurling and be able to weld but it will save a fortune over buying a set

What the fuck do you do with the DBs that the hex DBs break? I've got a bunch of lighter hex DBs and they aren't prone to breakage.

maybe he's like the great jcg, who used to throw them out the third floor window at the old york barbell building to see if they can take it.

Yeah, he owns that gym supply company Funk mentioned, and that's a lot of his personal collection out on the floor. He also sometimes puts on Strongman shows centered around grip strength and odd lifts especially, so that's why you see a lot of halved dumbbells, anvils, and the like. For many years, he was one of the main guys into that sorta stuff.

I had the same problem. I looked into it and just the shipping was a killer,  my friend has the bowflex adjustables off of ebay. they were still a bit expensive think it was a bit under 300 including shipping for the pair and i believe they went up to 60 pounds or so .  There def good for certain things/ we had a pair at a house i lived at over the summer at the beach.
