No cheap gas is a consequence of low oil prices not the other way around. I live in Houston, I can assure you plenty of people in this country are thinking about those laid off workers

I respect your opinion but I honestly don';t think so....all people complain about is not being able to fill up their cars with cheap gas...which was a major hit that Obama took in his first few years...today, people seem really happy with gas prices and I don't think they make the connection that Americans actually lose jobs when gas is really cheap.

over 100,000 jobs lost in the oil and gas sector. Those arent minimum wage jobs either but good middle to upper middle class jobs with more to come.

We have to stop just cvaring about profits and start paying men enough to take care of their families.......remember when our fathers made enough so that our mothers didn't have to work?

Low skilled workers are easily replaced unfortunately and when low skilled workers get paid too much they get replaced by technology that's cheaper than them. The idea for individuals is to be a skilled worker.
You either need to make skilled workers or rebalance the supply and demand in the labor markets.

Good point about technology...I forgot to mention that.....the good old days when everyone in america was paid what they are worth is over......as you mentioned, technology and mechanization are doing away with alot of jobs...also..GLOBALIZATI ON where people in China and Indonesia are making things for 2 bucks an hour......

I don't think that's true. Curbing immigration is fine. We just have to curb ALL immigration. Not just Mexicans and Muslims, but also Asians, Canadians, Europeans and so on.

I agree, I didn't say limiting illegal immigration but limiting immigration. The fact is though that illegal immigrants at least first generation aren't coming here for high income jobs. They are coming here for low and middle income jobs. Those same jobs that people in the low to lower middle class need and want.

with globalization we have so many American companies going overseas to manuafacture high priced, over-priced junk by desperate natives at $2 an hour......does an iphone really need to cost $800???????....when it probably costs Apple maybe $25 per phone with shipping, materials, research and development?..maybe it would cost $35 per phone to manufacture in the U.S. and you could still sell it for $500 and make a tidy profit....

His Harvard professor case particularly comes to mind as a few more instances there is no point referencing. Do I think the racism he has experienced is the reason he hasn't reached agreement across the aisle, no I don't.
And I also don't agree with the liberal narrative that trump is racist, as much as I dislike him.

I think usually it will always be more economical to replace workers with machines....Machines don't get tired, don't call in sick, don't argue with the boss, adn have higher productivity levels.....its starting to happen in fast food now with the new $15 an hour wage...like I said, just wait until our trucks, taxis and limos are all being driven by robots....we will have mass unemployment like you've never seen

No, I expect people to strive to do better.

Every illegal worker makes it further from an achievable state, because there's only so much need for workers. Tonymctones spelled it out pretty well imo. And of course things will only continue to tighten as we go into the future.
It is a really tough spot we're in, and the media messages are so off-the-chart crazy on this issue, I would just love to see people be made to answer and be held accountable for that.

The requirements are that you have to have five years of heavy driving experience on tractor-trailer trucks, you have to be HIV-negative, have a clean police record, verifiable references that the government in India can verify.”

An American company is recruiting long-haul truck drivers from India with the goal of placing them with U.S. trucking firms.
The Teamsters Union strongly opposes the plan by Gagan Global LLC of Garnerville, N.Y.
Teamsters Union spokesman Galen Munroe told WND the plan “is yet another example of corporations exploiting a visa program to replace highly trained, hard-working Americans with cheap labor from overseas.”
Gagan Global has contracted with the Indian state government of Andra Pradesh and its Overseas Manpower Consultancy to run a training school in the Asian country.

But anyway, your post only serve to prove my point. Their market has now changed. Time to do something new, upskill and better yourself. I have a business degree (Accounting and Finance). I've been a plumber's mate, software developer, railway worker, insurance claims/loss adjuster, done carpentery formwork and now I'm back in insurance heading up a small team in a major global company. I'm also doing a part time diploma in quantity surveying. Don't matter what happens in the world or markets, I'll carve out a place for myself.
Those truck drivers' reality have changed. Are they going to spend the rest of their lives complaining about it or get back out there and do something new?
So far I'm only seeing excuses.

What I'm seeing happening is LIFE. And I see people not adapting to the change. Not grand words. Really simple if you think about it.
I suppose some people wish things can stay exactly the same so they don't have to go to the effort to change/better themselves.

Jobs won't ever disappear, markets will change. People that don't want to change or better themselves will get left behind. There's literally hundreds of 1000s of jobs out there in America TODAY. Vacancies that can't be filled because the skills aren't there.
If you're too fucking stupid or lazy to continuously better yourself, yes, chances are unemployment will rise. Not for the lack of opportunity though.

The american economy is so HUGE that 1.2% for us is big compared to another country like Russia or India...bot to mention those days of 3-4% growth are over due to Globalization, etc
