Used to be the finishing move was just that. Finishing move. Like, dude... end of match. But now it seems like finishing moves of the past are just common place and ineffective.
DDT
Superkick
Powerbomb
chair shot
etc...
Everyone and their mommas do those and everyone and their mommas kick out of it. Even after multiple executions.
Man... this sport has gone down the drain.

True... but I mean, they don't really do those holds much anymore. I am referring to moves that used to end a match on the spot only done by a handful of people. Jake had his DDT. No one else did it. Then Arn and Raven started using it as finishers too. Now everyone does at least 3-4 in the course of one match.
The Super Kick I remember Chris Adams using it. (with someone else in the federation they had a feud over it). Then in the UWF it was Savannah Jack. Then Shawn Michaels. Now days everyone, Rusev, ADR, Usos, Zigg, Owens, etc... all us it multiple times in a match.

Barry Windham used the claw as well at one point... pathetic version of it. Actually, everything Barry did was pathetic. Was never a fan of his.

Here are a few:
The swinging neck-breaker (i.e. Honky Tonk Man's "Shake, Rattle, and Roll").
Standing neck-breaker (i.e. Ravishing Rick Rude's "Rude Awakening").
The Rock Bottom/People's Elbow: WWE alternated each as a finisher.
The Sleeper: Used to be Ziggler's finisher.

As a kid we never knew that when you applied the figure four you had to put the opposing leg on TOP of the other one. We would grab the leg, do the spin around, stick the leg UNDER the knee of the other one, drop down and stomp our foot in the opponents balls. Instant submission. In all the wisdom of our youth, we promptly understood that :
1 - Wrestlers acted like it hurt the leg and knee because they didn't want anyone to see them holding their berries on tv, where the real pain was.
2 - Wrestlers who could withstand the Figure Four longer than 5 seconds obviously didn't have any berries left anyway.
It wasn't until I was watching lucha libra one time that I saw a Mex with one red pants leg and one black pants leg get caught in and realized that we had been doing it wrong all those years and yeah... it doesn't hurt the shin/knee.

YES...
Too bad Gordon never explained how "reversing" the figure-4 transferred the pain to the applicant!!

How could I forget the regular piledriver?

Today it's any submission hold on a top face. They can have it locked in, center of the ring and you know the face won't tap. He will sell for a minute then crawl to the ropes or reverse the hold.

There is no such thing as a one time finisher.
If you are hit with any finisher, and you are at the top of the card, you must get hit with it 2-3 times.
If it only takes one time, then you have to have been solid beat up the previous 10 minutes by 2-3 people.

I remember back in the eighties, if a guy used a DDT (Namely Jake Roberts), it was like...wow.....now its used be every wrestler as a set up move...lol.

You and I also remember a time before guys sold a DDT with a somersault.
Sorry for the grumpy old guy "kids these days" rhetoric.

Selling a DDT with a spike doesn't bother me as long as it's set up properly and has that kind of impact.
Otherwise it's just wasted.

Figure four leg lock and camel clutch > than all other finishing moves combined.
Them motherfuckers hurt.
The abdominal stretch aint no picnic either.
