I honestly think the old HBO Gotti film will wind up better than this. I think Travolta's plastic surgery and that role he took as Robert Shapiro has ruined him for me. I keep waiting for him to pull off the rubber mask when I see him, and then I realize it's mostly his face.

Jimmy Coonan then took over the loan shark business and the mafia and Roy DeMeo's crew were too afraid to take them on so set up a meeting asking them to work as contract killers for them. The Westies were the real reckless lunatics they should make a movie about them instead. Go read about jimmy and mickey featherstone. They say they killed as many as DeMeos crew which was estimated 80-200.

Thank you for mentioning the Jews, TA. As a [half] Italian myself that came out looking full-Italian, I sometimes get annoyed with these movies laying the heat solely on Italians for organized crime, as if Jews aren't hugely involved also.
Shoot...in Thunder Bay right now, since displacing the Greek who currently controlled most of the drug scene here, we have ended up with a bunch of knee-grows from Ottawa and Toronto, who are ten times worse.

Coonan and the Westies were out of control, bringing severed heads into bars etc. Watch State of Grace. Loosely based on the Westies. Gary Oldman's character was based on Featherstone.

Yeah, even old school guys from that neighborhood weren't getting into it. The biggest complaints I hear is Travolta's face and mannerisms are just off and very odd, and the script is horrible. If there is a saving grace for it, it might be as a bad movie cult classic. A lot of folks here are treating it like a comedy.
They had a big push for it in the States with a street parade, and the newest Gotti doc "Gotti - Father and Son" showing just before it. You can see the documentary below, it's ok, if a bit self aggrandizing.

Just saw this -
3/10 as a mob film. 7/10 as a good bad film.
The Good - Nice sound track. No flow to it, but some decent songs.
The Bad -
Travolta looks like he's wearing a rubber mask in many scenes.
Very little fleshing out of the story. A lot of one line explanations for murders ( E.g. - "Oh, I had to go do a piece of business"), and lots of use of old news footage to help the story along. Not well done, more like "We don't have the cash to film this, so stick that news clip here". Very cheap looking.
Casting - Travolta hams it up a bit. No one looks like the historical character they play, minus the Castellano guy, who's in it for like 2 minutes. Stacy Keach is Stacy Keach, no real acting. It's like they said "How much for 15 minutes?". Good for you Stacy, get that cash.
Pruitt Taylor Vince - Horrible. I like the guy, but he tries an Italian accent for three lines, then just talks like a mid-Southerner. Hilarious in a bad way. He's in it for like 20 minutes.
The other characters are played by 4th string character actors doing bad, stereo typical acting. Just :-\. It's like they all called each other, and said "You want to get in this?".
The other extras look like they were cast out of whatever deli or high school was open.
Filming - Lots of tight jump cuts to hide the low budget and anachronisms. Yer not fooling anybody. Lots of empty streets, and empty club scenes. No budget for special effects. The big famous Gotti fireworks show is three duplicated stock footage scenes of the same red, white, and green rockets going off.
There's also a scene of a car bombing that looks like they just lit a puddle of gas on the front seats. Cropped real tight.
If you must see a Gotti film, watch the HBO one as mentioned. It's not perfect, but it's a 1000x better than this new one -
